Vordell Walker Update
Pic Credit: OnlineWorldofWrestling.com
For those in the northeast not familiar with the wrestler Vordell Walker, Vordell is considered one of the best in the southeast region of the country. Vordell has made his name all over Florida, Georgia & the Carolinas. In addition, when UXW was running New York full-time, Vordell wound up becoming the United States Champion, in February of 2006. However, after winning the championship, in a TLC Battle Royal Match, Vordell sustained an injury in April of 2006, and was out for several months, returning in December of 2006 for SCW. As a result, Vordell lost his home northeast company, because UXW moved to Florida full-time in 2006.
Before Walker was injured, there was an incident, which was covered on this site and other internet sites, between Vordell & Rick Steiner. The incident occurred at an SCW Florida show in May of 2005, in a match between Vordell Walker & Dustin Rhodes vs Rick Steiner & Erick Stevens. Basically what happened that day was according to Vordell & other wrestlers in the locker room, Vordell Walker was "no-sold" by Steiner when Vordell asked Rick what he wanted to do in the match. Raven tells another story in his shoot interview, (Which you can read the review of here: Raven's Secrets of the Ring )
The end result of everything was Steiner shooting on Vordell in the ring, only for Vordell to respond and defend himself, which Rick didn't expect, as he didn't know Vordell's background. The match that is shown on the Raven DVD was edited by FIP's Sal Hamaoui, who owns the footage of he SCW event where the match took place. According to Vordell and others, Sal edited in a way to make Vordell look bad. In my original review of the DVD, I said the match did look edited several times, but after talking to Vordell and others, I was told the match was HEAVILY edited. After talking to fans who were at the event and other wrestlers, more people agreed with Vordell's version of the story that the match live was heavily edited, while few said what you saw on the DVD is what happened. Regardless, there was a shoot fight between the two in a match.
Fast forward to June of 2007, as there was another incident between Vordell & Rick Steiner. The DOI heard of this story immediately after it happened, but waited to report this story as we wanted to talk to everyone involved. We were not able to get in contact with Rick Steiner, but did talk to other wrestlers at the show, promoters & fans.
At a CWA show in Georgia, on June 14th, 2007, Vordell & Rick Steiner were in the same locker room. Steiner went to shake hands with several of the indy guys. When Rick went to shake Vordell's hand, Vordell, being a man of pride, told Steiner he wouldn't shake his hand. Several people commented to me that Vordell should've let bygones be bygones, but people closest to Vordell told me that Vordell was being real and by shaking Steiner's hand it would've looked "being fake."
After no-selling Steiner's attempted handshake, Steiner mouthed off about Vordell to people in the locker room. Vordell immediately defended his name, and went off on Steiner. According to witnesses in the locker room & to Vordell himself, Vordell and Steiner fought in the locker room. Eventually wrestlers, including Dustin Rhodes, who was at the first incident, had to break it up, as Vordell had Steiner seconds away from passing out, as vordell had a submission hold locked in.
I do want to reiterate that I did not talk to Rick Steiner nor heard his version of the story. What is being reported is what has been told to me by Vordell, promoters, wrestlers & other eyewitnesses.
The end result of the incident was that Vordell went on to have his match and was escorted out of the building by CWA staff. Luckily, CWA did not get any heat with their venue, and both Rick & Vordell left the building without further incident.
Shortly after the incident, CWA booker David Garrick issued this statement, on the GeorgiaWrestling.tk forums:
My name is David Garrick.I am the Vice-President and booker of CWA Pro Wrestling.
It has come to our attention that that the altercation between Walker and Steiner that DID occur has been posted and spread throughout the wrestling world. What concerns us is that some of the reports and descriptions are not accurate. This is why we felt a statement was necessary.
Through eye-witness accounts(myself included),we have reviewed the situation.
CWA Pro Wrestling stands firmly behind Vordell Walker, and will at this time offer no further bookings to Mr.Steiner.
Thank You
The DOI had a lengthy conversation with Vordell, where Vordell wants it to be made known that he is not a liar, as several people have spread that the incidents never happened. Vordell will be doing an interview with the DOI, which will be posted on the site this week. Topics discussed will be the Rick Steiner incidents, his ROH career, why he isn't in FIP anymore, being one of Florida's top stars, being a two time UXW US Champion and more. It should also be stated that per an agreement with UXW promoter Frank Goodman, Vordell Walker is allowed to defend the UXW United States Championship in other promotions.
