Quick TNA Sacrifice PPV Match By Match Thoughts < P>
Don't have much time, so this will be quick and spellcheck free. I was able to watch the PPV, albeit while doing other things because I can't sit and watch TNA without doing something else to be entertained. Here's my quick thoughts:
Going in, I thought this PPV has a bad premise. It's hard to sell matches that don't make any sense, which is a problem TNA has every week. It's even tougher to sell matches when there's a whole tournament that is more confusing than every March Madness pool in the world combined.
The only match I had interest in was the Knockouts match. I also was hoping to see a legit tag team win the tag team championships, instead of the Russo special, where two enemies win the belt and feud, all while being tag champions.
It was announced that Angle was hurt and out of the match. TNA decided to keep the match a three way, as we'd find out later on.
Kevin Nash was shown coming to the show with The Steiners. Kevin Nash continues to be the smartest man in wrestling. This guy gets paid to do nothing but have fun, cut promos and get himself over. He'll also get a PPV payday against Joe soon. My prediction: Nash does his first clean one on one job in TNA, as I do think he realizes that the company has invested greatly in Joe. Joe isn't some vanilla midget like Chris Sabin.
Team 3D d. James Storm & Sting
I'm sure Sting is thinking, hey they have to pay me the same no matter what I do. Odd match. Glad to see 3D win, as they are a legit tag team and probably one of the best 10 tag teams ever in wrestling.
I do not care about Frank Trigg. If I wanted to watch MMA, I'd watch it. On this subject, I like how all the copy and paste sites cover MMA religiously because Dave Meltzer does. The DOI covered UFC because Eric Nyenhuis was obsessed with it, but there are alot of MMA groups out there and all these copy and paste sites try to present themselves as they are really into MMA when they are just copying shit from The Observer. Anyway, I like pro wrestling and I wish its world didn't collide so much with MMA. Give me the fake stuff!
Christian & Rhino d. Booker T & Robert Roode
Rhino beats Roode here. Booker T turned heel for some reason. TNA's booking is atrocious, I do not have to get into that, but how do you get one of the top biggest babyfaces in wrestling, coming off a World Title run, and make him look worthless? During Christian's debut and first two years in TNA, Christian was treated like a guy who Hogan's drawing ability with the wrestling style of Bret Hart. They get a bigger name in Booker T and have made him just look part of the roster, instead of standing out as a huge star.
LAX w/Selina d. Matt Morgan & Billy Gunn
At least it was short. I don't see the big hype in Matt Morgan as he has no charisma to me. The Big Show he is not. Again, glad to see a real tag team win here.
AJ & Angle had their "As The Word Turns" moment about Karen Angle. With Russo booking, I'm still surprised Karen Angle isn't womans champion yet. I'm sure Karen will be giving birth, after a tryst with AJ Styles, with a hand popping out of her chooch.
AJ Styles & Super Eric d. TNA Knockout Champion Awesome Kong & Road Dogg
Blah match. I am not a fan of Eric Young and find him to be as retarded as TNA's booking. I don't buy him as the loveable babyface, while others do. I can't deny that he is over, but he's just a guy I can't get into. Road Dogg is played out. His promo on impact last Thursday made him sound like he was ready to be put to pasture. Bad finish here too and just sloppy. A really horrible way to debut Kong vs the men.
Rick Steiner is here and here to support Scott. I'm surprised Rick wasn't involved in the finish.
Frankie Kazarian won a Terror Dome cluster fuck spotfest cage match against 9 other jobbers/security guards when needed; as a result Kaz becomes number 1 contender to Petey Williams X-Title
Before the match, Cornette announced that since Angle was out, the winner here will join Steiner & Joe in the main event, for a shot at the world title. I didn't get this. Why not just do Joe/Steiner straight up? Obviously they were nervous about Steiner in the main event position, but they could've dog & ponied that up, with run-ins from Rhaka Khan, Petey, Rick, Nash and whoever. I think that would've told a better match/story, rather than throwing in a guy who's spent the last few months wrestling whatever Goldust is calling himself this week.
The cage gimmick sucked. The winner had to climb the cage and go through a hole. This was more like an American Gladiators event than a wrestling match. This match came off majorly bushleague. If WWE did a match like this, it would be all you would hear about for the month with their top guys. TNA hardly hyped this up and they just threw the same guys they never have real spots for on the PPV in this, like they do every month. Waste of a gimmick match, but then again, when does TNA not have a PPV that has at least 3+ gimmick matches?
Joe did a promo with Jeremy Borash and threatened to choke him out. Why is Joe so angry? Maybe he needs to start wiping his ass with 2-ply instead of sandpaper? The dude is always angry. Joe is fat too, and as a fellow fat person, he needs to relax or he's gonna put too much strain on his heart. The guy is always yelling and mad. The guy was mad when he wasn't champion. Now that he's champion he's screaming and all upset. As one of my friends said to me during this, "Nigga need to smoke a blunt and chill bro"
Team 3D d. Christian & Rhino
Of course we needed some fuck finishes on this show, so Johnny Devine interfered (who should've not been involved, since he just wrestled 5 minutes ago, in a match, promoted by TNA as the most hellacious match ever.) I guess it wasn't hellacious enough to stop Devine, who actually took the big bump at the end of the Terrordome match. Devine interfered and Devon pinned Rhino for the win. I still don't Devine's relationship with 3D since 3D buries the X-division all the time and never helps him out in his matches, while Devine is super lackey for them.
Gay Borash told Nash that Joe threatened to hit him. Instead of saying Joe needs to go Rage-aholics Anonymous like George Costanza, Nash said he will get in Joe's face.
LAX w/Selina d. AJ Styles & Super Eric
Eric bores me. I thought LAX gave up way too much to a thrown together team. We had our second fuck finish of the semi-finals, as Hector Guerrero came out while AJ Styles had Homicide in a small package. Guerrero rolled the guys over so Homicide was small packaging AJ. This led to the finish.
Did LAX really need to cheat to beat a thrown together team? I understand the Guerrero name and honestly, WWE & TNA, to me at least, are exploiting it, not honoring it.
For some reason, we had a promo with Samoa Joe's dancers. Well at least TNA made sure to get them on the show instead of getting a wrestler over.
Gail Kim won the Knockout battle royal ladder match, as a result she is the number 1 contender to Kong again. Roxxie Laveaux/Nikki Roxx lost, so she had to get her head shaved.
To me, this match had the most heat, especially at the end, even for maybe the wrong reasons.
The battle royal was blah, lasting a few minutes. I said it before and will say it again, TNA really goes all out when booking the girls. It's amazing that the girl division is booked by the same people who book the men.
It came down to Nikki Roxx vs Gail Kim in a ladder match which while this was all over-gimmicked, at least you're putting the top two wrestlers against each other.
This was never announced before the match, so it had to be confusing for the live crowd, but since Gail Kim won an immunity match on Impact, it meant if she lost she wouldnt get her head shaved, but instead, the third to last person in the match, which wound up being Angelina Love, would.
Gail Kim obviously then went over, after Angelina Love & Talia interfered, making sure to protect Angelina's hair. I thought Roxx was going to lose this match ever since they announced it because the Voodoo Queen gimmick is dead retarded. Hopefully this head shaving will lead to her becoming Nikki Roxx in TNA and be a character makeover.
Roxx got major babyface heat here as well, while Angelina Love came off as the biggest fucking whore skank in the world. There's a huge money match between Angelina Love & Roxx now, and TNA did it perfect where they can do tags with Gail & Talia in this.
However, during this whole time where Roxx get her head shaved, the crowd was chanting FIRE RUSSO! It was so fucking loud, I felt I was in the arena. I am not exaggerating ,it was nuts how loud the FIRE RUSSO chant was. I don't know if the fans found this boring, as I thought this all told a good story, but I think they saw a real wrestler get her head shaved and was upset, rather than seeing someone less skilled get it.
Plus, usually in hair matches, the heel loses and it's a blow off. Russo books a meaningless hair match. A hair match should either be the blowoff of a feud or lead to the blowoff. Instead it's the first thing booked. I did think this all got over and made Roxx look like a huge face and made Angelina Love the biggest heel out of al lthe women, so it worked ,but yea, Fire Russo already! From what I hear anyway, none of the boys outside of Jarrett like him.
Kevin Nash & Samoa Joe had a lovers quarrel. Joe said I don't need your help, I'm a one man buffet eating machine and Nash said fine, I will just let my hair grow more grays. Pretty gay shit here.
LAX d. Team 3D to win the tag team titles after Homicide frogsplashed Devon.
They already used Hector already, so of course they had to burnt that out and do it again. Hector did a double stomp on Johnny Devine through a table during the match. I think that would've gotten a bigger pop if they didnt have Hector out interfering 30 minutes prior. Again, Johnny Devine in TNA's most barbaric match, was running around all over the place.
I'm happy to see LAX win the belts, but for indy fans, that gives away their finishes for all their upcoming indy dates. LAX deserved it, but they need to keep the focus on the wrestling and not Guerrero & Selina. LAX should win because they are TNA's hottest act & one of the best merchandisers not because they want to make money off the Guerrero name.
Samoa Joe beat Kaz & Scott Steiner to retain the World Belt
One thing TNA has over the WWE is the way they at least make their World Title mean something. WWE has 8834 champions, where at least recently in TNA, the world title is presented as a huge fucking deal. When Chavo Guerrero is holding world titles, you know there is a problem in the WWE food chain or perhaps the WWE gave him the belt after feeling bad about exploiting Vickie with all her Edge sex shit.
This match was alright, but didn't have a main event PPV feel with Kaz in it. Losing Angle hurt. They should have left it with Steiner & joe doing it, and doing run-ins if they were scared of Steiner being weak in the ring. Plus, from the matches I've seen recently, Steiner has been pretty good.
Kaz held up his own but he's just a guy who wrestles in clusterfucks or against Goldust so it was hard to buy him as a main event. Predictability is a huge factor when watching wrestling and there is no one watching this who thought Kaz would seriously win, or Steiner for that matter. At least with Steiner, they could've used his lackies to at least tease some false finishes.
Overall, like every other TNA PPV, this didn't feel worth the price TNA was asking for. THe PPV's need to feel like you're experiencing something big. WWE has this problem too, so it's just not a TNA thing. For historical purposes and to win the award for the best businessman ever in wrestling, I hope Kevin Nash takes the title from Joe. The internet might break if that happens. Nash could kill Joe's streak, just like he did to Goldberg, and all with four moves. Nash don't even care to look young anymore. Does anyone remember WCW when Nash wasn't only dying his hair, but he was rocking FUBU shit? If Nash, looking like he's reading for the early bird special, could beat Joe, I think it would make TNA the best rib on the business in history.
Again, not much stuff happening here, but I was happy with the ending of the tag tournament and the FIRE RUSSO stuff was great, although I don't think TNA was looking for that reaction.
