Spotlight on Amazing Red
The Amazing Red has been known as one of the most innovative and risky high flyers around the world. Whether it's New York, Nashville, Orlando, or Japan, fans around the world have been exposed to Red's unique style of wrestling. Red can often be seen teaming with his cousins, The Spanish Announce Team (The SAT). The six year professional has competed in tiny buildings to massive arenas throughout the world and can be seen on a national platform competing for the National Wrestling Alliance: Total Non-Stop Action (NWA:TNA).
Red was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1982. Red and his mom made the move to Brooklyn, NY when he was only four years old. He grew up watching wrestling with his cousins, The SAT, and they would often do battles in their rooms before taking it up in the squared circle.
Red began his training under Mexican wrestler Augila. He then enrolled in Extreme Championship Wrestling's (ECW) House of Hardcore training school, along with The SAT. They spent a year of training there before it shut down, and then finished their training with the former ECW Triple Crown champion, Mikey Whipwreck.
Red made his professional debut at the age of 16 at Arena Puerto Rico in Brooklyn, NY, before he was "Amazing." His only memory of the show was that it was free to the public, which meant in his first match he was denied a payday. Bigger things were set to happen to Red.
Red spent most of his early career competing in scattered New York City independent companies. One of the first promotions he was able to call home was Jac Sabboth's Impact Championship Wrestling (ICW). Before becoming ICW, it was known as Ultimate Championship Wrestling (UCW) and ran shows out of New York City, mostly Queens. The promotion ran it's first show under the ICW banner on January 26, 2001. ICW crowned their heavyweight champion at a USA Pro show in December 2000. This show concentrated on the tournament to crown the first ICW North Eastern champion. Red was successful in the first round, as he defeated Divine. He wasn't as successful in the semi-finals when he lost to the eventual winner, his cousin Joel Maximo.
The following month, on the 23rd, Red returned to ICW and competed twice on the show at the Elks Lodge in Queens, NY. In his first match of the night, he defeated Abunai. He returned later that night to team with Joel Maximo to face the former multiple time USA Pro Tag Team champions, The Boogie Knights, by count-out.
Red was getting better by the day. ICW was looking to have him as a main eventer in the company. On April 27, 2001, Red once again pulled double duty. In his first match, he faced Joel Maximo for the ICW North Eastern Title. The match ended in a draw. Later that night, Red was involved in a tag team match, teaming with Mikey Whipwreck to face ICW champ Xavier and Divine. In this match, Xavier's ICW Title was up for grabs. Red pinned Xavier to win the ICW Title. However, on May 26, 2001 in Queens, NY, Red was stripped of the title by Jac Sabboth because Mikey Whipwreck was the legal man in the match, not Red. Sabboth returned the title to Xavier and stated that Red's reign, as champion is official.
Red got a shot to regain the title in a singles match on August 25, 2001 in Staten Island at Sportsfest. In a match that could have gone either way, The Dynasty ran out and laid out both men, resulting in a no-contest. ICW held a rematch between the two on September 14, 2001 in Queens. This time, Low Ki got the decisive win over Red.
Red continued to be a mainstay in not just ICW, but Frank Goodman's USA Pro, which also runs shows in New York. On October, 20, 2001, USA Pro held a Mikey Whipwreck Retirement Show. Red faced and lost to Kid Kash, a man he would run into again in the future in NWA:TNA. Seven nights later in USA Pro at Halloween Heat, Red faced his cousins Joel & Jose Maximo in a 3 Way Dance and got the win. Red was getting matches against indy wrestling's best athletes. ICW brought in Florida mainstay "The Black Nature Boy" Scoot Andrews to face Red at their November 30, 2001 show in Queens, NY. Red got the win over Andrews. Later that same show, Low Ki retained his ICW Title with a win over former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Heavyweight champion, Eddie Guerrero.
As Red was getting more and more amazing by the minute, his services were requested for other appearances in the Northeast. On December 13, 2001, Red ventured to Premier Wrestling Federation (PWF), which was based in Pennsylvania. On that night, Red won the PWF Junior Heavyweight Title from current East Coast Wrestling Alliance (ECWA) wrestler, Billy Bax.
ICW had been in existence for a year when they ran their First Anniversary Show on January 25, 2002 in Queens, NY at The Elks Lodge. Xavier defended his title against Red and current WWE superstar Simon Dean, or as he was known at the time, Nova. Xavier was successful in his defense of the title. Other matches on this huge show included Da Hit Squad defeating The SAT for the ICW Tag Team Titles, Low Ki battling Sabu to a no-contest and Balls Mahoney teaming with The Sandman to defeat Homicide & Boogalou, known as The Natural Born Sinnerz.
Ring of Honor (RoH) was a new promotion that was looking to set it's own trend in indy wrestling, which they certainly have done. They held their first show on February 23, 2002 in Philadelphia, PA. The Era of Honor began that night, and RoH was looking to bring back technical wrestling without the gimmicks. Red competed on the first show, defeating Jay Briscoe.
The promoter of ECWA, Jim Kettner, holds an annual tournament called the Super 8. The past eight years have seen great action and the tournament has been a much-anticipated event. This tournament has helped propel the careers of many of the wrestlers that have competed in them. Athletes such as Billy Kidman, Pat Kenney, Scotty 2 Hotty, The Hardy Boyz, Christopher Daniels, Trent Acid, Low Ki, Spanky, AJ Styles, Jamie Noble, and countless others have come through this tournament and have gone on to bigger things. The sixth annual Super 8 was held on March 2, 2002 in Wilmington, DE. Red competed in the tournament, and defeated Bobby Roode in the first round, but lost to AJ Styles in the semi-finals. Donovan Morgan went on to win the tournament.
Red began working shows for Maryland Championship Wrestling (MCW). He traveled to the promotion on March 27, 2002 to beat Kennan Creed for the MCW Cruiserweight Title in Glen Burnie, MD. Red held onto the title for several months before being stripped due to not defending it.
ICW was going through some financial problems, and Red had not been seen in the promotion in several months, despite the relaunches. He returned, along with The SAT, to ICW on April 26, 2002. They were then booked to face each other in a 3 Way Dance, which saw Joel win the match after pinning Red. The following night, Red was involved in one of the biggest matches of his career to that point. In the main event of RoH Night of Appreciation, Red teamed with Eddie Guerrero to defeat The SAT in Eddie's final RoH match.
Red added another title to his resume on May 18, 2002 in Queens, NY when he defeated Xavier to become the USA Pro United States Title. In his first defense of the title, he defeated Kid Kash at the Big Dick Dudley Memorial Show on June 8, 2002. The following night, Red ended up losing the PWF Junior Heavyweight Title to Quiet Storm in Pottstown, PA in a Gauntlet Match.
Red was booked to compete in the tournament to crown the first RoH Champion. The tournament began on June 22, 2002 in Philadelphia at Road to the Title. He defeated Xavier in the first round, but lost to Low Ki later that night.
The Jarrett's were looking to give wrestling fans a national alternative to WWE by presenting NWA:TNA. The catch was that their shows appeared on PPV exclusively. Red was one of the wrestlers brought in for their launch, and he made his debut on the sixth PPV on July 24, 2002. Red lost to Low Ki in his PPV debut.
Red was a busy man that was in demand. He was wrestling on a regular basis with NWA:TNA and RoH, while making sporadic appearances for USA Pro. Chris Candido challenged Red for his USA Pro US Title on August 19, 2002. Candido won his first US Title and left North Shore, Long Island as the new champion. They had a rematch at the following show on August 30, 2002 at Guilty Until Proven Innocent. Candido won the rematch.
Meanwhile, in TNA, Red was already a contender for the company's X Division Title. On August 21, 2002, Low Ki defended his X Division Title against Red and The SAT in a 4 Way Match. Low Ki retained his title against the trio.
Red competed at RoH's Honor Invades Boston show on August 24, 2002. On that night, Red faced and defeated Quiet Storm in Wakefield, MA. After the match, his brief feud with Special K began as they jumped up. At the following show on September 21, 2002 at Unscripted, Red lost to Jay Briscoe. After the match, Special K again attacked Red, resulting in The SAT making the save.
After Red's appearance in the Super 8, he was brought back in to compete on ECWA's September 14, 2002. On that night, he was booked to face Prince Nana, who was the ECWA Champion. Red shocked the fans by beating the hated Nana for the title.
Red was brought in to work shows for Major League Wrestling (MLW), which was run by Court Bauer. For the first time, Red was repackaged with a different name. He wore a mask and competed as Fuego Guerrare. On September 26, 2002 at Reload, Guerrera faced former ECW TV champ, Super Crazy. Crazy got the win, but this would not be the last time these two would meet in a MLW ring.
Not since the ECWA Super 8 has Red faced off against AJ Styles in a major promotion. USA Pro had the opportunity to present a singles match between the two on October 19, 2002 at Halloween Heat in Queens, NY. The winner would become the #1 Contender to the USA Pro Xtreme Title. AJ Styles won the match, and immediately faced the Xtreme champion, Xavier, right after the match, Xavier defeated Styles. On October 30, 2002, Styles faced Red for the first time in TNA. At the time, Styles was the X Division champion. Red lost to "The Phenomenal One."
Red returned to ECWA to make a defense of the ECWA Title on November 2, 2002. He was set to face one of his greatest opponents, Xavier. Xavier upended Red to win the ECWA Title in Wilmington, DE. They were on opposing sides of a 6 Man Tag Team Match later that night, which had the ECWA Title on the line. Just like when it happened in ICW, Red pinned Xavier to regain the title just hours after he lost it.
RoH held their All-Star Extravaganza in Philadelphia on November 9, 2002. That night, one of the matches booked on the show was a gauntlet to see who would face AJ Styles later that night to determine who would win the #1 Contender's Trophy. The participants in the gauntlet included Red, former WWE Tag Team champ Paul London, former TNA X Division champ Michael Shane, CM Punk, and The American Dragon. The order of elimination saw Shane defeat CM Punk, London defeat Shane, London defeat Red, and The Dragon beat London to win the gauntlet.
For several shows, Red found himself competing against Jay Briscoe in Philadelphia. This frustrated Jay's brother, Mark, as he was too young to compete on shows in Pennsylvania due to state regulations. On a show leading up to their tag team grudge match on November 16, 2002, Mark walked out on his brother due to him being frustrated at Jay's recent losing streak. This set up their Dream Partner Match. Mark chose "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels while Jay picked recent nemesis Red. Mark & Daniels got the win over Jay & Red. The teaming of Red & Jay didn't end there. They agreed to reform their team on December 7, 2002 at Night of the Butcher. They competed in a Scramble Match that also involved The SAT, Da Hit Squad and Special K members Deranged and former Pro Pain Pro Wrestling (3PW) Heavyweight champ Joey Matthews. The match was won by The SAT.
Red got another shot at becoming the TNA X Division champion when he showed up to Nashville on November 20, 2002 and found himself challenging Jerry Lynn for his X Division title. After a hard fought effort on Red's part, Lynn got the win and retained his gold belt. Two nights later, USA Pro held their 8th Anniversary Show in Queens, NY at The Elks Lodge. In a 4 Corners Match for the vacant USA Pro US Title, Red regained the belt by defeating Quiet Storm, Reefer and Deranged. Red's second US Title reign lasted nearly 4 hours as he lost the title to Homicide later that night.
Red reverted to his Feugo Guerrera persona in MLW when they held their King of Kings show on December 20, 2002. Guerrera was pitted in a 3 Way Dance against Super Crazy and Christopher Daniels. Guerrera won the match, but it didn't end there. Crazy attacked Guerrera after the match and tried to rip off his mask, but was stopped when The SAT ran in to save Guerrera.
As 2003 began, Red received a huge opportunity to take his first tour of Japan. He competed for All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) and he competed on the New Year Giant Series tour, which began on January 2 and ended on January 13, 2003. In AJPW, he used his Feugo Guerrera gimmick and wrestled under a mask. In his Japanese debut, he teamed with Jimmy Yang, now known in WWE as Akio, to defeat the team of Gran Naniwa & Super Dragon in Tokyo's Korakuen Hall.
Throughout the rest of his first tour, Guerrera found himself in a series of tag team matches. On January 3, he was involved in a big six-man tag team match as Guerrera teamed with Yang and Ryuji Hijikata to lose to Kendo Ka Shin, Gran Naniwa & Super Dragon when Naniwa used a Spicy Drop on Guerrera for the win at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. A rematch of the first night of the tour was held on January 5 and it ended in the same result as Guerrera & Yang beat Naniwa & Super Dragon at the Nagano Movement Park Gymnasium.
Guerrera competed in his first singles match in Japan when he faced West Coast wrestler Super Dragon on January 6, 2003. After working the first three nights against Super Dragon, and having the 2-1 advantage, Dragon was able to even up the score by beating Guerrera at the Yokkaichi Australia Memorial Hall. Two nights later, Guerrera had his second singles match, this time facing Nobukazu Hirai at the Ube Tawarada Memorial Gymnasium. Guerrera came out on the losing end for the second straight night.
Guerrera had the golden opportunity to face some of AJPW's best cruiserweights on this tour. On January 10, 2003, he once again teamed with Yang, but they faced the team of Super Dragon and Kazushi Miyamoto. For you fans in the New York City area, you may remember Miyamoto competing at USA Pro's Meltdown 2 in Long Island as The Great Kazushi as he defeated Quiet Storm. On this night, however, Yang & Guerrera left the Iwakuni City Gymnasium as winners. It would be the last night on this tour that Yang and Guerrera teamed with one another.
After spending much of his debut tour as an opponent for Super Dragon, Guerrera found himself teaming with Dragon on January 11. They teamed, unsuccessfully, against Hideki Hosaka & Ryuji Hijikata and the match ended when Hijikata pinned Guerrera after a Fisherman's Buster at the Fukuyama Big Rose. On the final night of the tour, at the Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium, Fuego & Dragon teamed again to face Kaz Hayashi & Jimmy Yang. Kaz & Yang formed The Jung Dragons in WCW, along with a semi-masked Jamie Noble. Kaz pinned Guerrera after The Final Cut.
In his biggest ECWA Title defense to date, Red had his hands full on his first big show of 2003 when he returned to the United States. He was set to defend the ECWA Title against four of the best thrown his way by Jim Kettner. On January 18, Red saw himself defending his title against future ECWA champion Mike Kruel, two-time Super 8 winner Christopher Daniels, former NWA Tag Team champ Low Ki, and international superstar The American Dragon. Unfortunately for Red, his second ECWA Title reign ended with Daniels becoming the new champion.
Red was invited back to AJPW in February to compete on the Excite Series 2003 tour, which ran from February 8 until February 23. This time, Red returned with a different gimmick. He was now dubbed Spriggan. On the first night of the tour, Spriggan started off on the wrong foot as he lost to Kaz Hayashi, who beat Spriggan with a reverse Final Cut at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo. The next night, Spriggan teamed with Kendo Ka Shin to face and lose to Jimmy Yang & Japanese legend Gran Hamada after Yang pinned Spriggan at the Gran Ship Shizuoka. Hamada has been successful competing in Japan and Mexico and wrestled several shows in ECW, helping put over the feud between Justin Credible and The Great Sasuke.
Also competing on this tour was "Prime Time" Elix Skipper. He competed as Extreme Blade. On February 10, Blade & Spriggan faced and defeated the team of Kendo Ka Shin & Super Dragon when Spriggan defeated Dragon after a standing Shooting Star Press at the Nagoya International Conference Hall. The following night, partners were now rivals as Blade defeated Spriggan with the Blade of the Dead at the Kyoto KBS Hall.
Valentine's Day in Japan saw no love lost when Blade teamed with Gran Hamada to face Kendo Ka Shin and Spriggan in a match that took place at the Sasebo Sports Bunka Hall. Hamada pinned Spriggan after a Hama-Chan Cutter, which is a version of Marc Mero's TKO. The following night, Spriggan returned to singles action to face Taichi Ishikari at the Morodomi Town Bunka Gymnasium. Spriggan got his first singles Japanese win when he beat Ishikari after a standing Shooting Star Press.
Spriggan returned to tag team action on February 16 when he had the chance to team with The Gladiator, who is former ECW champion Mike Awesome, to take on Jimmy Yang & Extreme Blade. Yang got the win over Spriggan after Yang Time at the Hakata Star Lane. The following night, Spriggan wrestled Yang in a singles match, and unfortunately for Spriggan, Yang got yet another win over Spriggan after Yang Time at the Kagoshima Arena.
Spriggan was booked to face Gran Hamada in a singles match on February 20 at the Strait Messe Shimonoseki. Hamada is a legend in Japan, as he has been competing since the early 1970s. He has held titles in Japan and Mexico and was a two-time WWE Light Heavyweight champion, even though WWE had stopped recognizing the title in the mid 1980s. Hamada took Spriggan to school and beat him with the Hama-Chan Cutter. The final night of the tour, which took place three nights later, was a PPV broadcast. Spriggan teamed with Masanobu Fuchi to face Gran Hamada & Taichi Ishikari in the opening match. Hamada once again pinned Spriggan with the Hama-Chan Cutter at Budokan Hall in Tokyo.
After two successful tours of AJPW early in 2003, Red made his return to RoH on March 13, 2003 at Expect the Unexpected in Cambridge, MA. Red's feud with Special K continued as Red defeated Special K member Slim J. After the match, Special K security guard, Slugger, made his way out and jumped Red. Due to the attack, Red was unable to compete in the Scramble Match later that night, which would give the winners a title shot at the end of the night. Red was to team with AJ Styles, but Styles went at it alone against The Backseat Boyz, The SAT and The Carnage Crew. AJ Styles surprised the fans with his win. Despite being attacked earlier in the night, AJ chose Red to be his partner when Styles regular partner, Paul London, was sidelined due to sinus surgery. In the main event of the show, AJ Styles & Red defeated Christopher Daniels & Xavier to win the RoH Tag Team Titles.
As champions, AJ & Red were now the hunted, and the team that went after them were Mark & Jay Briscoe. Their first defense took place on March 22, 2003 at Night of the Champions. AJ & Red got the win and left Philadelphia as the champs. A rematch was held between the two teams on April 12, 2003 at Epic Encounter in Philadelphia. AJ & Red were successful yet again.
Red had the chance to become a dual tag team champion as he teamed with Jerry Lynn to face the NWA Tag Team champions Elix Skipper & Christopher Daniels, who represented Triple X. Red & Lynn won the titles on April 16 in Nashville to become the new champs. The following week, Red faced his partner, Jerry Lynn, in a singles match and defeated Lynn in Nashville.
RoH held Round Robin Challenge II on April 26, 2003 in West Mifflin, PA. The competitors were Red, Christopher Daniels and Paul London. In the opening match of the show, Daniels beat Red to go 1-0. Later that night, Red returned and lost his second straight match that night to Paul London, to make Red finish 2-0 in the challenge. Daniels ended up beating London to win the challenge.
After several attempts to win the X Division Title, Red got another chance at the title on April 30, 2003. On that night, Rd became a dual TNA champion as he upended Kid Kash to win the title in Nashville. Unfortunately, a week later on May 7, Red & Jerry Lynn lost the NWA Tag Team Titles to Christopher Daniels in a Handicapped Match by DQ. In TNA, titles can change hands on a DQ. Red's title losing streak continued on May 14 in Nashville when he lost the X Division Title to Chris Sabin in a Triangle Match, which also involved Jerry Lynn.
The reason why Red lost those titles so quickly is because he was slated to undergo his third AJPW tour, which began on May 25 and finished on June 13, 2003. Red returned as Spriggan to compete on the Super Power Series 2003 tour. On the opening night, at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Spriggan lost to Jimmy Yang. On May 29, 2003, Spriggan lost his second straight match on the tour to Kazushi Miyamoto after a German Suplex at the Okayama Budokan Hall.
In a rematch from the opening night of the tour, Jimmy Yang once again pinned Spriggan after Yang Time at the Tokushima Municipal Gymnasium. The following night, Spriggan got his first win of the tour, beating Taichi Ishikari with a Flatliner at the Kobe Sambo Hall. Spriggan then spent the rest of the tour competing against Gran Hamada in a series of match.
Spriggan and Hamada faced each other three straight nights on June 4, 5 and 8. Hamada beat Spriggan on all three nights with the Hama-Chan Cutter. They did battle at the Utsunomiya City Gymnasium, the Miyagi Sports Center and the Yokohama Bunka Gymnasium. Spriggan took a break from wrestling Hamada on June 10 when he lost to Kazushi Miyamoto at the Niigata City Gymnasium. The following night, Spriggan once again lost to Hamada with the same hold at the Matsumoto City Gymnasium. On the final night of the tour, Gran Hamada & Ryuji Hijikata beat Kazushi Miyamoto & Spriggan when Hijikata used a Fisherman buster on Spriggan at the Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium.
Red returned Stateside on July 19 for RoH's Death Before Dishonor in Elizabeth, NJ. Red & AJ Styles once again defended the RoH Titles against The Briscoes. Just like the first two matches, Red & AJ were successful in their defense. On August 9, 2003 at Wrath of the Racket in Dayton, OH, The Prophecy of Christopher Daniels & Dan Maff were looking to avenge Daniels' loss of the RoH Titles and they jumped Red at intermission, putting him out of action. AJ Styles chose Homicide to help defend the titles against Daniels & Maff later that night and were successful. Jim Cornette, who was in the corner of Daniels & Maff, shook the hands of AJ & Homicide, which infuriated Maff & Daniels. They turned on Cornette and Samoa Joe & The Amazing Red saved Cornette.
Red returned to AJPW for yet another tour called the Summer Action Series II 2003 tour. Red went over there with his third gimmick: Misterio Red. The tour began on August 19, 2003. On the first night, Red teamed with Kendo Ka Shin and Alan Funk to defeat the team of Masa Fuchi, Taichi Ishikari and Hi69 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan. Even though he was on the winning side, Red ended up with bad luck as he tore his ACL. He underwent major reconstructive surgery to repair it in October and was out for seven months. Because of that, Red & AJ Styles were stripped of the RoH Titles in August 2003.
After intense rehabbing, Red made his long awaited return on March 13, 2004 at At Our Best in Elizabeth, NJ for RoH. In a 6 Pack Match, Red faced and defeated Teddy Hart, Jack Evans, Mark Briscoe, Jimmy Rave, and Sonjay Dutt to begin his comeback. Red made his return to TNA on March 24 in a big way. He won another 6 Pack Match defeating Jerry Lynn, Kazarian, Prime Time, Petey Williams, and Nosawa. Because of the win, Red was now the #1 Contender to the X Division Title. The match was to take place against X Division champion Chris Sabin a week later, but Sabin was stripped of the title due to injury. So Red faced Kazarian in a match for the vacant title, which was won by Kazarian.
North East Wrestling (NEW) holds shows from time to time with some big names in wrestling. They held a show at Rutgers University in Newark, NJ on April 3, 2004. The main event of the show saw Mick Foley team with Jerry Lawler to defeat Al Snow & The Coach, which was Foley's first victory in over four years. Another match on the show saw "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes face and defeat Simon Diamond, now known as Pat Kenney in TNA. Red also competed on the show, losing to long-time rival Xavier.
By this time, Red was under contract to TNA, which limited his appearances in various indy feds and stopped Red from touring Japan for now. TNA implemented a booking fee for the wrestlers under contract to them if they were to compete on indy shows. Red made an appearance for Fat Frank's Jersey All Pro Wrestling (JAPW) on April 24, 2004 at Awesome Sacrifice in Rahway, NJ, losing to Teddy Hart. Soon after this, TNA informs Red and RoH that Red can no longer compete for RoH, due to the Rob Feinstein incident.
Red had a Best of 3 series against Sonjay Dutt in TNA. Their matches took place in Nashville on May 5, 12 and 19. Sonjay won the first match, Red got the best of Sonjay in the second match and Red won the series in the third and deciding match which made Red the #1 Contender to the X Division Title. Red got his shot on June 2, 2004, against X Division champ Kazarian, and Kazarian got the better of Red again.
Red debuted in Ian Rotten's Independent Wrestling Association (IWA) Mid-South promotion on May 7 and May 8, 2004. On the first night, in Lafayette, IN, he lost to Austin Aries at You Gotta See This! The following night, Red fell to Matt Sydel in Highland, IN at Meeting of the Minds.
TNA secured a TV deal with Fox Sports Net and began airing one-hour shows in the late spring 2004. On June 3, 2004, on TNA Impact, Red teamed with Sonjay Dutt and Hector Garza to defeat Team Canada members Petey Williams, Bobby Roode and Eric Young. Two nights later, Red made his return to JAPW at When Worlds Collide in Rahway, NJ. In the main event, JAPW Light Heavyweight champion Jay Lethal defeat Red and Sonjay Dutt in a 3 Way Dance. The three wrestlers then spilled their rivalry into USA Pro on June 19, 2004 in Long Island, this time competing in a 4 Way Match along with Deranged. Red won the elimination match, which was highlighted by Jay Lethal giving his three opponents a triple Tiger Suplex.
Red received another shot at the X Division Title on June 30, 2004 on TNA on PPV. AJ Styles was the defending champion and was booked to face Chris Sabin, Christopher Daniels, Kazarian, Michael Shane, and Red in a 6 Pack Match. AJ Styles beat the odds and retained the title.
TNA held a 20 Superstar International X Division Gauntlet for the X Division Title on August 11, 2004 on PPV. Red made it to the final four; along with Petey Williams and the co-X Division champions Kazarian and Michael Shane. The champs were eliminated and it came down to Red and Williams. Williams snuck away as the new champion with help from Team Canada. They had a rematch the next day at the Impact taping, with Williams retaining in his first defense.
TNA held their final weekly PPV broadcast on September 8, 2004 in Nashville. Red competed in the opening match of the PPV in an X Division Tag Team Dominance Match. It was a tag team battle royal, which saw Red teaming with Chris Sabin. They didn't win.
Red was a part of a big indy weekend in the New York/New Jersey area on the weekend of September 17-18. On the 17th, Red worked a USA Pro show in Queens, NY, losing to Jay Lethal. The following night at the JAPW 7th Anniversary Show, Red teamed with The SAT to face Sonjay Dutt, M Dogg 20 and Josh Prohibition. Unfortunately, the match ended prematurely as Sonjay dislocated his elbow trying to do an insane flying head scissors.
On the October 1, 2004 edition of TNA Impact, Red had the chance to win a match against X Division champion Petey Williams at the first 3 hour TNA PPV, Victory Road. He was in the main event of an X Division Free For All, which included himself, Alex Shelly, AJ Styles, Kid Kash, Kazarian, and Chris Sabin. Styles won the match and the shot when he pinned Shelley with the Styles Clash.
Due to his contract with TNA, Red spends all his time in the United States, which is a good thing for the fans. Red can be seen on a weekly basis on Fox Sports Net every Friday afternoon at 3 PM EST. Red can be found on various indy feds throughout the northeast. Since returning from his knee surgery, Red looked slow at first, obviously, but is slowly returning to his old self. For more information on Red, check out http://www.nwatna.com/.
