As is standard with me when its show day I usually leave for a show early as I hate to rush and get there late and then I feel pressured to get ready. Not to mention I like to socialize a little with people before the show. Usually the promoter of the show. This show happened to be JCW so my choice of promoter to get caught up with was Ricky O. Not that we don't speak regularly during the week but on show day its different. I got there about 4:30 or so and the ring was set up already. Richie Rotten was working out with some students in the ring. I like Richie as he is old school like myself and understands the business. I proceed to take care of my business which is to get tables so I can set my merch up. By that time some of the boys started showing up. I met up with Mana and Cindy Rodgers. I haven't seen Mana in a long time so we got caught up for a little. Dana Dameson showed up next looking like she just came from the beach or something. After about an hour or so I brought my merch in and by that time people were in the ring working out or trying to. I always like to go and observe and sometimes give pointers. Keep in mind I am not a wrestler and don't wrestle but that doesn't mean that in my 18 years I haven't learned anything or have something to offer as I have seen just about all of it and have a good understanding of how the business needs to be run. Cindy was in the ring trying to teach Dana a standing over the top wrist lock. To anyone in the business this is basics 101. Dana was having a hard time grasping that concept. They moved to running the ropes. A novice beginner with no training learns to run the ropes before locking up. Cindy was teaching her how to run the ropes. Again Dana was having a tough time comprehending this. I gave her a few pointers and then she was off running the ropes. Everytime she hit the ropes she started to whine that it hurts. I saw an opportunity to have fun with Dana. I went into my drill instructor routine. I sometimes do this when teaching martial arts to the young generation that like to fool around. Everytime she was running the ropes I was encouraging her as only I can do. I was telling her to run faster. I saw that she was getting tired and when she stopped I asked her if she was tired. She said yes. Big mistake. I commanded her to run the ropes and not stop until I told her so. I was trying to make her passout. Rule # 1 never tell your trainer that your tired. Not to mention that I could see that she was not serious and needed to be taught a lesson. I wish I had a female enforcer there to properly teach her etiquette. I know the right person for the job. It got so bad in the ring that Mana decided to have some fun with her as well. He decided to run the ropes criss crossing with her. That scared the hell out of her literally. When Mana did a drop down and Dana had to run over him she was scared out of her mind. Lets get real here folks. This is pro wrestling training not knitting class. Finally she runs out of the ring and gets bottle of water. All of us were just rolling our eyes. This girl just doesn't get it and I don't think she ever will. I have heard stories of her being disrespectful and not having a clue and I understand where these comments are coming from.
I finally decide to get set up. It was like vendor city in the gym. I was there along with 2 other vendors and the JCW merch table. With the crowd that actually showed up it was a challenge to make money which I did with the other competion so I have no complaints.
The show finally starts. Ringside was just about sold out. There was 9 matches on the show which I gave results to elsewhere. Some of the highlights were a triple threat match with Johnny Thunder, Fred Sampson and Damian Adams. These guys can work and it showed as I thought it was the best thing on the show. Other highlights were the Gecos Locos which were 2 guys in green mask and green lizard outfits doing a great comedy match which had the entire crowd behind them and into everything they did. JCW promoter Ricky O got the idea for this from watching a FIPW show from Florida and seeing the same concept with chickens. Kudos to Ricky for coming up with this gimmick as he is going to make out great with this gimmick. Dana Dameson managed the Gecos. Dana came out in full beach get up. Short shorts and a once piece top with her cell phone that's right I said her cell attached to her top piece. She was moving around the ring having a good time not having a clue as to what she was doing. I thought it was odd seeing her wear her cell phone out there.
Next came intermission which was dominated by the Gecos in the ring as they did very well with the polariods' much to the dismay of Balls Mahoney who was at my table trying to sell his photos and do polariods' as well as Chris and Tammy at another table and were getting outdone by the Gecos. Balls blew a fuse but was later calmed down. This was mentioned on the Masked Maniac hotline by Chris Candido on Sunday.
By the way did I mention that I was a Maniac a holic? I guess I should join the bandwagon myself.
Also mentioned on the Masked Maniac hotline by Chris was his match with Shawn Sheridan. Chris mentioned his displeasure of how the match turned out. I have to say that this was one of the few times that I have ever seen Chris aggressive in the ring. To me it looked like he was working very snug or tight with him. Chris's facial expressions were priceless. Without burying Shawn who I like lets just chalk it up to a bad match and if and when they meet again I am sure Shawn will be on top of his game and have a better match with Chris.
I have always said that Chris is probably the best worker on the indy scene right now. I have know Chris for 18 years as he and Balls Mahoney helped to break me into this business that long ago. I have seen Chris have his ups and downs but I have to say the current Chris Candido is top notch. He cleaned up his act. He is now healthy and is a pleasure to watch as he never has a bad match and has the ability to make anyone look good. Tammy also looks good. She is healthy as well. Both have produced some special moments in wrestling as their chemistry together and well as working with other people should not be missed.
Balls Mahoney and Hasheem " Chemical " Ali also had a great match as well and Mana and Josh Daniels.
After the show the JCW crew converged on Houlihans. Normally we do Fridays but this is the new spot now. About 18 of us enjoyed Houlihans. I had a great conversation with Richie Rotten there. It is always great to talk to an old school guy that understands the past and how to pass his knowledge to the new generation. They desperately need it badly.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Another good night of wrestling by JCW. I forgot to mention that Kara and Cindy Rodgers had a good ladies match. I think Kara is very attractive. Sorry Judas. Dana needs to find a clue. I now understand why the Masked Maniac goofs on her all the time. I also now understand why Tammy Sytch ripped on her big time at the last JCW show in Bogota. Somebody needs to smarten her up quickly if she is going to last in this business. By the way I am going to market " HAMPSTER GIRL " shirts in the near future. Chris and Shawn didn't click this time but I am sure it will the next time. Hey Shawn don't sweat it. It's just a learning experience.
I will do my review of ECPW next week
