Monsta Macks Sixth Installment
Finally, Da Mack has come back to Declaration of Independents. I am back
after a long hiatus and I have a few things to get off of my chest. You
can consider this the "Soapbox" edition of Monsta Mack's column because
instead of the usual ratings of certain wrestler, I will just blab on
about whatever comes to mind. Kinda like a Monsta Maniac Minute.
Shout outs go to the locker room of WXW and Afa the Wild Samoan for
welcoming me back in to the fold over there. It was good to see guys
like Billy "Well I'll be Dammed" Dream aka Jacques Lesnar, Gene Snisky
aka "Shorty", "The Black Pearl" Reno, LA Smooth, Nuisance, Moondog
Molsonn, Tommy Suede, Havoc, Supreme Lee Great and all the rest of the
great WXW homegrown talent. It was also a pleasure to work with Johnny
Thundar (honorary DHS member for the night lol), Vic Devine, Papadon and
the rest of the guys this past weekend. Mix those names with the flux of
outside talents like Phoenix, The All Nighters, A.M.I.L., Los Lunatics,
Team Target, Mike Tobin & a few others as well appearances by major
superstars like Ekmo (formerly 3 Minute Warnings Jamal), Bautista, and
Rikishi and WXW is one of the best places to watch solid quality
wrestling. You never quite know what's going to happen. Hell I never
know what's going to happen when I go.
Homicide just wrestled over in jolly ole England for the first time in
his career and reported to me that it was an awesome experience. I just
can't quite picture him talking with a British accent, but damn it sure
is funny to think about him trying. Imagine Homicide playing the Brad
Pitt role in Snatch or as a bad guy in a Sherlock Holmes play????
Although I am sure the tradition will continue in some way, I am sad
that I will never have a chance to experience the Dungeon the right way
with Stu Hart as a trainer. However with such great wrestlers past and
present having come from there with him as their trainer, his memory and
legacy will live on for a very long time. Rest in Peace Stu.
I remember growing up before I had cable installed, the only wrestling I
could watch at my house was either WWF, Glow, Bill Watt's UWF, or some
of the WWC from Puerto Rico. I would read about other feds like Florida
Championship Wrestling, Stampede, AWA, World Class, USWA, Georgia
Championship Wrestling or any of the other NWA feds in magazines like
Pro Wrestling Illustrated or Wrestling Insider every month. Whenever I
would look at the rankings, I would always find one name on top of the
tag team division. That name was the Road Warriors. Hawk and Animal were
the best no matter which fed they were in at the time. They changed the
way wrestling fans looked at tag team wrestling forever. The first time
I saw Night of the Skywalkers, I became an instant fan of the Legion of
Doom. From the promo they showed of Hawk dropping the pumpkin off of the
scaffold(which I will admit is kinda weak by today's standards) to their
entrance to how they went up on the scaffold and moved around with no
fear while Dennis Condrey and Bobby Eaton where legitimately shook to
death just to stand up let alone wrestle outside of throwing a few
punches and kicks. The LOD was just awesome. With the exception of the
Samoan Swat Team, they scared the crap out of each team and it was very
believable. Their matches with Samu and Fatu were incredible. The wild
stuff they did in their matches was just insane. With that said, I wish
I wasn't the first one to tell Samu this past Sunday that Hawk had
passed away. You can tell that Samu had more than respect in his heart
for this great warrior. He had much love for this Great Spirit. Mafia
and I were fortunate enough to not only wrestle him and Animal, but we
had a chance to talk, hang out and enjoy the company of Hawk. He was a
very funny, smart and larger than life man. I don't want to get too much
in to it because I am sad by the loss but I will share a quick story
that I will forever remember Mike Hegstrand by. We are working the Road
Warriors for Frank Goodman's USA Pro Wrestling in this tiny building
over in Minneola Long Island. I am in the middle of the ring working on
Hawks leg and I clamp on a leg lock to catch a quick breather when out
of no where I hear Hawk yell out to me "Hey kid, don't forget to give me
and Animal your numbers so I can hook you guys up with this new fed we
are running down in Florida." I looked in amazement not because he
totally no sold what I was doing to him in the ring, but that he was
digging our ring work so much that he would bring us down to work with
him without knowing us from beans and he can get any other tag team in
the world to go down to Florida. That is just a tiny sample of how
generous he was. He will be missed.
AWWWWWWWWHAT A RUUUUUUUSHHHHHHHH!!!!!! Rest in Peace Hawk
While I am a Mets Fan (hold all the jokes please), I am a New York fan
first and foremost and I am glad to see that the Yankees made it to the
World Series thanks to a little help from the Curse of the Great
Bambino. Now let's see if they can bring home the Title with a side of
grilled Marlin.
How great would Don Zimmer be as a wrestler or a wrestling manager? Or
Pedro Martinez as part of Degeneration X?
The new Simpson's Hit and Run game is the best Simpson's game ever. Some
of the stuff in the game is pee on the floor funny.
It was funny to hear Homicide and Low Life Louie's reaction to the
announcement that Da Hitsquad and The Headhunters will meet in
Jacksonville on Oct. 24 for MLW. When I started to train we had all the
tapes from FMW and saw all the crazy stuff these two huge men did to
their opponents and to themselves not only did we become fans of the
Headhunters, we often wondered what the hell it was like to be in the
ring with them. We will soon get a chance to find out.
Friday morning, I went online I went online to check out the results
from the ROH show in Maryland was pleasantly shocked. I was glad to see
that Homicide continued his streak of being a part of the best match of
the night, I was felt even better to know that Mafia had came out of his
first match back from being knocked out a few months ago ok, but nothing
had me smiling more than when I read the line that Dixie and Izzy(Insane
Dragon) had beat The Backseat Boys. I kinda feel like a parent or uncle
to these two. Me and Maf helped to raise them over in JAPW. It was a
brutal rough kind of love but they became a special part of our DHS
Family. They earned the respect from us. Then when it came to Ring of
Honor, they continued to bust their ass to be the best. The only problem
was that they were one of, if not, the smallest teams in ROH so when it
came to working teams like the Briscoes, The Maximos, or even us we knew
they would be on the losing side nine times out of ten. With the steam
ROH is continuing to gain, I am happy to see that they would give them
the tag belts at this point in time of ROH timeline. Right now the core
group of Special K, pound for pound, is one of the best in professional
wrestling currently. Dixie, Deranged, Hydro (Jay Lethal) and Izzy are a
definite asset to any locker room and to and federation without a doubt.
From promos, to in ring work, to how they get their point across to how
they work the crowd, these guys are money. Few are happier than me with
the success these guys are receiving and I hope it continues for a long
time.
I am out. I will come back with another column sometime during the week
after Nov 1.
For now, live long and prosper and go where no man has gone before, PUMP
