Monsta Macks Fourth Installment
"I from where ni***s pull your car, and argue all day about Who's the best MC's,
Biggie, Jay-Z, and Nas Where the drugs czars evolve, and thugs always are At
each other's throats for the love of foreign cars Where cats catch cases, hoping
the judge R and R's But most times find themselves locked up behind bars I'm
from where they ball and breed rhyme stars I'm from Marcy son, just thought
I'd remind y'all"
-JAY Z "WHERE I'M From"
Welcome back to the madness that goes on in the mind of Monsta Mack. That opening
is just a little reminder to a few people out there who thinks Da Mack has gotten
soft over time. Keep sleeping. I just hope you are watching! As usual I have
a few shout outs and whatevers to start things off.........To Danny, I know
that times are a little rough right now, but keep your head up and show the
world they shouldn't piss off a man as nasty as you are.......please just do
me one favor, change the name, Danny Maff is so not you!!!! Lol..................To
Low Ki, you are family no matter what goes on in the world and no one is happier
than me that you had the chance to team up with a wrestling god and your personal
idol, Great Muta (notice I didn't say Keiji Mutoh!), I somehow always knew this
would happen, I just hope you loved every minute of it and that we see more
of The Great Ki!!!!.........Muta, Muta, Muta, The Greatest-o MUTA!!!!!!!.................Suba
from The Shaolin Wrecking Crew is disappearing, you are looking good kid...........Anyone
know where Mercedes Martinez is at? Me neither.............Monsta Mack a lightweight?
Even if I won the JAPW lightweight belt, I would have given it up right after
the match because I know my leg alone isn't light enough to be in the lightweight
class, but it was a lot of fun to work with Nick Berk who is awesome, Deranged
who I am one of his biggest fans and Azriel who is great and is your new champ...............BTW,
that wasn't the first lightweight title I have ever wrestled for, check the
history of the LIWF and you will see that me and Ki wrestled each other in the
Elks Lodge for the belt and it was a rough one but that shouldn't be a surprise................and
finally I am really going to miss Impact Championship Wrestling. I had a whole
lot of fun there and so many memorable matches there. For any true fan of wrestling,
I suggest you get the June 2001 ladder match between Low Ki and Xavier. Holy
Awesome.
Last month, I wrote about a few of the newer guys, who in all honesty I knew
nothing about. Although the response online was almost non existent, the response
people gave my in person after reading it was tremendous. Everyone that spoke
to me told me that they truly enjoyed my writing and felt as if they were in
the memory with me experiencing what I saw. That was such a compliment to me
that I wasn't sure how I could continue the flow I have been trying to keep
with these columns. Since 1999, I have been part of more traveled and experienced
tag teams, Da Hitsquad, and it is because of that I have been fortunate enough
to have seen and wrestled almost every tag team that has wrestled on the east
coast today, so I think I know a little something about the subject. Here are
some of my thoughts and stories of some of the guys.
Russ & Charlie Haas
This was the first feud me and Mafia had as a tag team and as long as I live,
I will never forget this one. Not only did we gain rivals who brought out the
best in us, but we became really close friends with these two big Seton Hall
standouts. Russ was the one of the funniest guys you could ever meet. He was
always trying to find a way to get his short tempered brother heated and was
very successful at it. Charlie, who was always trying to make the team stand
out and be better, felt it was better if they would come out to either a hard
rock song or a good ole country song as entrance music being from Oklahoma.
He would give the music man the cd that they were to use for later on that night.
Twenty minutes later, Russ, who hated any of the music that Charlie wanted to
use, felt compelled to give the DJ their other cd. Confused, the DJ would say
"Charlie gave me the music already" to which Russ would reply "Nah man, that
one is scratched up. I have my back up." Charlie, who had no idea this event
took place, would be by the curtain with his brother, waiting to come out for
their match. Expecting the usual AC/DC "TNT", Charlie would start to get himself
hyped up only to be brought right down as soon as the music started. Cypress
Hill would be blaring from the speaker. Confused, Charlie would turn to Russ
and say "What the hell is this bulls**t?!?! This isn't our music!!!" Russ would
say to him "I think the music guy messed up our music. Let's go beat him up
after the match". Charlie was so heated that he could make the Devil say "Chill".
Russ would finally convince him to come out to the ring and Charlie would take
his frustrations out on the guys in the ring. Needless to say, those guys were
me and Maf most of the time. We got stretched, pulled, and turned in all different
directions by Charlie while Russ would literally legit punch us in the face
and kick us in the stomach. It sounds rough, trust me it was thirty times rougher
than it sounds, but I wouldn't change any of it for the world. We would travel
five, six hours to wherever together and would wrestle each other in front of
five people (four of which were wrestlers who worked the show before us) and
get paid a whole lot less than it cost us to get up there and back home. It
was worth every single minute though. I am sure most of you guys know that Russ
was taken from his family, friends and the wrestling world way too early on
December 15, 2001. I don't like to talk about this much but it was a very sad
day for the entire DHS Clique. Me and Danny were up for most of the night talking
and crying. Homicide was in a deep state of shock and major disbelief. But I
think it was Ki who, as hard as he tried to keep it in, hurt the most out of
the four of us. He had spent a lot of time with them right before that working
for the WWE, Jim Kettner and just hanging out with them. He didn't let any of
it out until the video package of Russ and Charlie was shown at an ECWA show.
When he did, it was almost unbearable to watch. I truly wish that no one ever
is hurt like that ever but if they are, they should look to Charlie as a source
of strong inspiration. He made a promise to his brother to succeed and not only
did he lived up to it, but exceeded it. In less than one year, he has already
become two time tag team champion with new partner Shelton Benjamin and is looked
at as one of the superstars in the WWE with the brightest futures ahead of them.
No matter what though I can always be happy knowing that I saw them win a match
in MSG and alongside Ray Sager, led the Garden crowd in one of the loudest Haas
chants I have ever heard. Russ spotted me and Ray, winked, smiled at us and
tagged in only to be dropped kicked by one of the Mean Street Posse.
Los Maximos (a.k.a. SAT)
In a lot of ways, the Maximos remind me so much of Charlie and Russ. They are
both funny guys but not as hilarious as when they are either beating each other
up or playing ribs on each other. You throw the Amazing Red in to the mix, and
you are guaranteed to have your sides hurting you for days. These guys have
such a love for the sport of wrestling and are always trying to learn to be
the best. They do all that they can to stand out in the eyes of the fans. In
my eyes, these two guys, the Briscoe's, the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, the Solution
and the Backseat Boys are the future of tag team wrestling Of course, like many
people who do well in this business, there are a lot of anti-SAT fans out there.
While no one is perfect and I am sure some people have their reasons to have
a grudge with them, it has nothing to do with their in ring work. In the ring
these guys are some of the most entertaining and talented wrestlers in the world
today. Jose can run as well as fly with the best of them. Agile and very flexible,
he is definitely one of the harder guys to keep a hold of in the ring. Joel
is deceptively strong for someone his size. Earlier this year, he was being
criticized for weight he had gained. He was being told that he was getting sloppy
in the ring, which to me appeared to be somewhat true because he had hurt a
few people in the ring doing basic moves. He has since lost it and is back to
his natural weight. His performance has gotten a lot crisper in the ring as
well based on what I saw at MLW recently. Speaking of MLW, Mafia Homicide, Steve
Deangelis(Ring Announcer)and myself were on the same flight on the way down
to Orlando with Los Maximos. We were catching a connecting flight in Atlanta
when we were approached by a young guy. He had asked us if any of us had pants
that he could buy from any of us. We looked at each other very confused and
said to ourselves "Is he serious?" He told us that he had a first class ticket
to Mexico but because he had on shorts, they wouldn't let him on because they
had a dress code. I was expecting Steve Deangelis to have some pants with him
since he was a ring announcer, but his bag was checked in when we left NY. So
the guy, who looked as sad as a kid whose mother had bought him a Sega Master
System instead of the Playstation 2 he had asked for because she thought all
video game systems were the same, started to walk away. All of a sudden, we
hear a little Mexican voice scream "Wait! I think I have a pair in my bag."
It was Joel. He started to open his bag to look for them. Low and behold, he
had a pair of black slacks in his bag. True to his word, the guy paid, thanked
him and walked away as if he had gotten that PS2 with all of the games he ever
wanted. When we asked Joel how much the guy had paid him, he said he gave him
eighty dollars. The slacks were from Old Navy and cost Joel twenty bucks. I
guess they saying is true when it comes to the SAT, Expect The Unexpected!!!
(I am still trying to figure out why Joel had slacks in his wrestling gear......)
I will stop here for now because I know if you guys are anything like me, you
can only read but so much at a time. What I will do is continue this column
next week with the DRS and the Solution. Maybe if I can, I will squeeze in someone
else. Until then, for the people who support me, thank you. For everyone else,
please keep hating. It only makes us stronger.
