Monsta
Macks Third Installment
It's time once again for you fine folk out there on the Internet to read some
of the disturbing nonsense that goes through my mind and oh what fun nonsense
it is this time. But before I get in to my rants, I would like to congratulate
some people. First off to Charlie Haas for becoming a 2-time, 2-time WWE Tag
Team Champion with his partner Shelton Benjamin. As far as the WWE goes, they
have become the Best Damn Tag Team. Period. I would love to see how they would
fare against the tag team of Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar or the team of Homicide
and Low Ki'. I think it is very cool that the WWE signed Paul London and Shannon
Ward (aka Lucy aka Daffney). The two are very entertaining and look to be on
the road that leads to greatness. *Sigh* No more Lucy in ROH or any other indies..........I
will always have the tapes lol. I would also like to congratulate Chris Daniels
for his recent stunt work on the summer blockbuster hit, Charlie's Angels: Full
Throttle. You might remember him from another summer blockbuster movie, Spiderman.
(Don't kill me CD, I just couldn't resist)
:-)
This time around,
I went with the TRL version of people to talk about and the top three people
I am constantly asked to write about are Josh Deely, Kevin Matthews and Danny
Demanto. I guess it is to see how "harsh" I will be with these guys but if you
go back to the first column that I had did, I said that I would never trash
anyone on here and I never will so don't mistake trashing someone for creative
advice. I am going to try to do this as if they were standing there reading
this in front of me. So let's see how it goes.
Danny Demanto
You ever have someone you just hate? Nah I am just kidding. I have seen the
self proclaimed "Fat Ass" fly for the past couple of years and I must say that
he tries hard to get over. Sometimes he gets a good response, but it is when
he is a heel that he is most effective. The people love to hate this kid. To
tell the truth, I think a few of the wrestlers in the back feel the same. But
he just goes on with his life and wrestles without letting it get to him, which
is a great thing in this business. I wish he wouldn't use so many other wrestlers'
moves especially when they are on the same show as him. He has been spoken to
about this and yet I saw him used the Frog Splash on a recent USA Pro show which
I was on. I know that this business can be very un-original, but with a little
creativity and changes to his repertoire a bit, he can do wonders for his persona
aka his "Gimmick". I remember one time he came down to the Doghouse to work
out and we were doing shooting drills under Low Ki's watch. The drill was to
get as many pins or tap outs on your partner in three minutes, take a one minute
rest, then continue for another three minutes. The time came when it was me
and Danny in there together. What a mess. I am not a shooter by any means at
all and Danny makes me look like Kurt Angle with his lack of shooting knowledge,
but I must say he was a lot tougher than expected. He tapped a few times but
not once was he pinned. Which is amazing considering one minute of shooting
can drain someone just as much as running on a treadmill for an hour. He is
a fighter with a big heart. He just needs to get some motivation to stop play
wrestling and be a serious wrestler. If he does, he could shock the world. (Did
I just say that???)
Kevin Matthews
If you can believe it, I have known this kid for 7 years now. He started three
months after Low Ki and I had gotten involved with wrestling. He fell off for
a few years and then appeared a couple of years ago at the Doghouse and the
Elks Lodge Feds (USA Pro & ICW). His then claim to fame was that he was with
Valentina. Then he started to feud with Danny Demanto in what quickly became
a joke with the fans because they did only one thing consistently, have horrendous
matches together. It was more of a chemistry thing rather than two sucky wrestlers
going at it. Now you might be saying to yourself "Mack, how in the hell can
you say these two guys didn't suck?" The answer is simple. I have seen the Best
of Kevin Matthews. While it was no where near the caliber of a Best of Dean
Malenko or Chris Benoit, he had a few really good enjoyable matches. One of
them included a match with John Walters, who is currently burning the indy scene
like a hot knife through butter. They traded stuff back and forth and it was
a fairly even match until the end. I was shocked but I shouldn't have been because
Kevin is growing and gaining experience and it is started to dawn on him what
he has to do to make it. Now if he could only decide on what hair color to use.
He is a smart kid who willing to travel and pay his dues. As long as he keeps
his focus and keep his head out of the clouds (IWW reference), then he should
someday become one of the more popular of the North East Indy Wrestlers. Lets
all wish him a speedy recovery from his recent knee surgery. Should be interesting
to see how he bounces back from that.
Josh Deely
Fist off let me explain one thing, my knowledge of Josh is very limited. I have
watched him wrestle Billy Reil at the Big Dick Dudley Memorial and one other
time at the Elks Lodge. To be honest, the matches were far from memorable. But
that isn't a bad thing. As I have gone on in this sport for the past 6-7 years,
I have learned that there is a place for everything and Josh Deely is a prime
example of that. He is very early in his career yet he gets a lot of heat from
the fans because of how he looks. He gets a lot of heat because of how he wrestles.
He gets a lot of heat because of how he talks. Why? Because he wrestles for
USA Pro, home to some of the rowdiest fans ever. You have to kill yourself to
get over with them and even then just when you think you understand what they
want, they change without telling anyone. As time goes on, I am sure that the
"Hunchback Kid" will win them over. When I look at Josh, all I see is underdog
and people love to root for the underdog. I would see him from time to time
training with Laithon and about to pass out from doing wind sprints but even
if he did nothing else that night, he finished his sprints. That's a major credit
to his determination to succeed. To be honest, I want him to do well. With all
of the posts on the message boards about him, none of it is true (except for
the one about him and Miss Sinful lol j/k) and that is a great thing. He is
a good kid who, much like the other two guys, has to grow in to the mold of
a pro wrestler. Right now though, he is in a very good position because he can
get away with a few mistakes here and there in a match because he is a "Young
Boy". It's up to him though to learn from those mistakes and make good in the
ring. Yes he is slow and yes he moves awkwardly in the ring, but you have to
crawl before you can run. Aside from some more ring time, he also needs some
new clothes. The trend on today's indies seems to be that anybody wearing a
t shirt, Magnum boots, kick pads from High Spots and airbrushed Nike wind breakers
makes you look like a wrestler. That is so far from the truth. In fact it looks
sloppy. I know the money situation can be rough sometimes but trust me people
will take to you a whole lot more if you look like a real wrestler instead of
looking like a backyarder who got put on a show because he sells tickets. Take
me for example. I wore Magnums all the way up till the summer of 2002. Then
I get some real wrestling boots from High Spots and I went to Japan a month
later :-).
In closing, the
three guys featured in this column are all really good people and have the potential
to be really good wrestlers someday. It won't be an easy road but if they stick
with it, train hard, believe in themselves and stay away from trouble then they
will all be rewarded in one way or another. They won't be the next Low Ki or
Homicide and they shouldn't strive to be. They should be happy to be themselves.
That's the most anyone can or should ask from them.
Leave some feed
back on this. I want to know if anyone sees it the way I do. It took me two
weeks of thinking how to write this without sounding like a jerk yet still getting
the point across. This was by far the toughest one to write yet. The next one
however, will be a lot easier because I will be writing about a few tag teams
that ya might have heard of. The SAT, The Boogie Knights, The Christopher Street
Connection, The Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Solution. It already looks to
be the longest column I have written but I have nothing but fun stories to tell
about these guys. Until then, continue the hate lol.
