The following comes from Luscious Lily, manager of the WXW Tag Team Champions, The Untouchables. She is also a wrestler who has wrestled in more combinations of the alphabet than many of her peers. This is her detailed and great review of ECWA's "Road to Super 8" show. The DOI would like to thank Lily for taking time out to do this.

Luscious Lily’s ECWA Review from 02/28/04

Hello DOI maniacs! I’m back with another review but you’ll have to bear with me as typing one handed is a pain in the rear.

This past Saturday I ventured to Delaware for my very first ECWA show. I was really excited as I had heard such great things about ECWA.

For starters I almost had a heart attack when the show started on time. They kicked off the show with a very well put together video played on a screen for the whole audience to see. The video gave some history regarding some of the matches for the night which was quite helpful to someone like me who had no back round on what was going on.

Match #1 was a six person tag featuring Motzart Fontaine, Brian XL and J-Busta with Sebastian Night versus Johnny Maxx and The Shoalin Wrecking Crew. This match was a great opener to set the tone for the night. All six competitors looked amazing and J-Busta came off extremely crisp in everything he did. I for one was glad to see Brian XL in the ring again. The finish saw J-Busta accidentally super kick Fontaine. Busta and XL were then picked up by The Shaolin Wrecking Crew and use to sandwich Fontaine who was then pinned.

After the match Busta, Brian XL and Fontaine all got into a shoving match over who was to blame for their loss. Sebastian Night was quick to side with Busta which brought out Fontaines former manager E.S. Easton. Easton said the loss was Busta’s fault. Then out came Carlton Hightower who yelled that everyone was overlooking one of the best cruiserweights in Brian XL. This then led into an impromptu three way match.

The three way was amazing and probably one of the best I have ever seen. During the match Fontaine placed Busta on his shoulders and XL hit a spring board hurricanrana on Busta. Fontaine picked up the win after Busta hit one of his many finishers on XL and Fontaine pitched him out of the ring to get the pin.

The third match saw Mr. Ohh La La with Carlton Hightower against The Japanese Pool Boy. Ohh La La does this very over the top gimmick including a really cheesy strip tease which had me laughing so hard I was in tears. The Japanese Pool Boy does a gay gimmick a little too well for me. This match had nothing really fancy in it but kept me highly entertained none the less. The Pool Boy took home the victory when Ohh La La put powder in his hands only to have it smacked back in his own face and gets planted with a bull dog.

Up next was another six person tag match. This one featured Lucian, Mayhem and Supreme Lee Great with Sebastian Night versus Zero, Nick Malakai and Ruffhouse Rivera. My mom always taught me if you can’t say anything nice then you shouldn’t say anything at all. So the only nice thing I can come up with to say about this match is that Supreme Lee Great did a tremendous job and made one heck of a showing in his debut which was almost mission impossible in this match. Mayhem hit Rivera with a chair to walk out with the victory for his team.

Match 5 was for the ECWA Tag Team Titles. The champions The Valedictorians (Billy Bax and Rob Eckos) with Carlton Hightower put the belts on the line against The Maximos (Jose and Joel formerly known as the SAT). All I can say are the Maximos are back! Critics who have said they got lazy and weren’t working up their potential should have seen them here! Bax and Eckos also made a wonderful team. This was a picture perfect tag team match. The Valedictorians retained their titles after a teased Spanish Fly; they hit a double team maneuver off the top rope.

Next up was a six person elimination match with the winner receiving the last spot in the Super 8 Tournament. The participants were Xavier, Striker, Inferno Dan Gimondo, Ace Darling, Hurricane John Walters and Johnny Heartbreaker. This was a solid match as would be expected from the men competing. I however thought this match went a little long. There was a really creative six person submission spot in the match and Xavier hit a sick looking jumping knee to the face in the corner on Ace Darling. The eliminations were as follows:

Ace eliminated Inferno
Striker eliminated Johnny Heartbreaker
Xavier eliminated Ace after Prince Nana came out and hit ace in the head with his belt
John Walters eliminated Striker
And
John Walters wins with a cradle

There was then a very brief intermission.

After intermission was what was billed as the battle of the rookies. Even if you hadn’t told me I would have realized both of these guys were rookies as it was very evident by their in ring work. Freak Nasty who has a good look took on Mike Fury. Thank goodness this match didn’t last too long. The match ended when the ref got knocked out and Nasty and Fury ended up rolling around on the mat like 2 girls in a catfight. The locker room emptied for a pull apart that the fans didn’t seem to care about.

The next match was for the ECWA Heavyweight Championship. Champion Mike Kruel took on The Cheetah Master. Before this match promos were shown on the screen from both competitors. Cheetah made some reference to a situation involving Mike Kruels dad. When Cheetah Master came out I almost went deaf as he was mad over. Both wrestlers had their own cheering sections on opposite sides of the ring. This was another solid match. Mike Kruel squeaked out the win when his dad came down the isle distracting Cheetah and allowing Kruel to roll him up and hook the tights.

The main event was for the ECWA Mid Atlantic Title. During intermission the fans were allowed to vote for the challenger. Champion Prince Nana with E.S. Easton came out first. He ran down the crowd getting booed the whole time. His opponent was then announced as Ace Darling. Everyone should have seen this one coming. This was a great match which ended with Ace becoming the new champ after Nana hooked him from behind and Ace pushed himself back off the ropes on top of Nana.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first ECWA show and have to thank Jim Kettner for putting it on. With the exception of the two matches I have already voiced my displeasure in I think it was a solid show that was run the way shows should be.

Post show wrap-up:

1) I’d love to see Brian XL versus J-Busta in a singles match in the future.
2) As much as I liked Carlton Hightower, having him come out in every other match through out the first half of the show was over kill
3) E.S. Easton needs to cough up the name of his tailor to me
4) Mr. Ohh La La needs to bic it before he strips
5) God bless The Japanese Pool Boy for wearing something underneath his daisy dukes
6) Supreme Lee Great lived up to his name during his match
7) Yellow does nothing for Bax or Rob Eckos
8) The Maximos are in phenomenal shape and I hope their careers blow up like they did in the past
9) If I were Cheetah Master I wouldn’t mess with Kruels dad as he’s one big mo fo
10) My most embarrassing moment of the night was having Mana ask Gary Michael Capetta what his last name was.
