This past weekend multiple companies within NJ alone ran shows and what do you get to read about? Not about how good the shows are or how good a particular wrestler did in their respective matches. You get people trashing Carmine, or ripping Ricky O. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard someone bash Carmine for this and that and then throw in SSCW sucks. But no one ever backs that statement up with anything other then Carmine doesn’t leave his house. Well news flash people even if Carmine left his house he wouldn’t be in an SSCW ring so it really has nothing to do with the quality of the show unless you don’t like the angles he helps book. When you make a blanket statement like SSCW sucks really what you’re doing is crapping all over the boys and girls in the locker room. (I’m sure Fecal Threats is getting all excited by that statement)
Seriously though, it’s the workers who make the show. I’ve heard time and time again how SSCW is a joke and you know what, you’re partially right there. I’m not sure how many people in SSCW went to the shows and took it seriously. Now I’ve only worked for the company for 2 shows and even I think I did my fair share of goofing off at the first show I was at. Fortunately for everyone that is all changing. With Simon Diamond being hired to run the house everyone is re-evaluating their actions. Simon came in last Saturday, sat the entire locker room down and laid it all out for us. Fact is I learned so much just from his pre show speech. Simon then went on to run one of the smoothest shows I’ve ever seen. Was it perfect, hell no! But it was a start and a step in the right direction. SSCW is making strides to put out a better quality product and my only question to you “fans” is are you even going to give us a chance to make things right? Or are you going to continue to judge the entire company because you read on a message board that Carmine watches Wheel of Fortune with his mom and doesn’t leave his house?
As for Ricky O. I’ve read everything from he steals drugs, to he’s gay, to he stiffs the boys and so on. I’ve known Ricky for years and all I can tell you is that he’s always been cool with me and treated me very well. Then again I’ve never worked for JCW. Do I care if Ricky is gay, hell no! (I don’t think he is by the way) Do I care if he steals drugs, hell I’m no police officer I’ll leave that crap to them. Do I care if he stiffs the boys, well yes this concerns me but I have yet to have one of the boys personally tell me a story about Ricky screwing them. In the past year and a half I have personally attended 2 JCW show. I found both to be really solid and quite entertaining. The workers on the show got in the ring and busted their butts and really were successful I think in giving the people a good show.
So my main point here is I don’t care if you can find a million and one reasons to hate the guy who stuffs the pay envelopes for a particular company. Don’t shit all over the company as you’re shitting all over the wrestlers in the locker room who bust their asses to entertain everyone.
The sad fact is I don’t think half the posts come from fans. I think many are fake posted by “workers” themselves. At which point I’m forced to ask, what are you getting out of it, more then a good chuckle? This entire BS is just damaging the business. Now don’t get me wrong, I am amused by some of the fake posting myself. Heck I am even amused by some of the things people post about me although I would hope you could be a little bit more creative then to tell people to ask me what pets I own that has something to do with my sexual habits. (7 fish if you were really interested) But don’t waste your time trashing one company because a company you work for and that company are rivals or because the promoter for that company won’t book you. Spend more time concentrating on your careers from a positive aspect.
Now onto the sub-subject of this column. Eric Simms wants to shoot fight Tommy Fierro, Ricky O wants to shoot fight Carmine Sabia. You’re supposed to be grown men! So GROW THE HELL UP ALREADY! Eric Simms wants to blame Tommy Fierro for The Iron Sheik throwing a beer bottle at his head and trying to punch him. No disrespect intended here, but the Iron Sheik is a grown ass man! No one cuffed him to a chair and poured the alcohol down his throat! So what if Tommy was buying him drinks, at any time he could have said no and not downed it. Tommy’s accused of egging the Sheik on and having him call Simms some anti-Semitic comment. Well you can’t make another adult do something unless you’re holding a gun to their heads or their family hostage, neither of which I am aware of Tommy doing to Sheik. Let’s face it; someone had to take the blame for this instance after it got made public. There is no way Simms would blame the Sheik or himself as Sheik makes him money and if people thought that the Sheik has control issues then they wouldn’t use him and Simms wouldn’t get a cut. Good business decision Eric! However Tommy Fierro shouldn’t take the blame. Now I wasn’t there so I can’t directly comment on what went down, but whatever happened between you and Sheik happened between two grown men who should have known better. Unless Tommy swung at you or pitched the beer bottle himself you shouldn’t be blaming him!
As for this ridiculous Ricky O versus Carmine Sabia shoot fight. PLEASE!!! This one accuses the other of fake posting about the other, this one trashes the others promotion. It goes on and on, day in and day out. Let me ask you a question. Is either SSCW or JCW selling out The Meadowlands? The answer: NO! So why don’t you take all this extra time you seem to have and put it into positively promoting your company and your product. Leave all the extra drama to the wrestlers inside the ring. As for who stiffed which worker on their payday on their last show, leave that between the worker and the promoter. Quite frankly it’s no one else’s business! If you’re old enough to work on the damn show and get an envelope then be adult enough to take up any business issues you have directly with the person running the company. Is it me or with all of this whining and crying, are wrestling rings beginning to look more like play-pens?
As for the whole Honky Tonk Man fiasco, I just want to address a section of this issue. I had the pleasure of meeting this gentleman at the SSCW show on Saturday. Numerous rumors have come out speculating that maybe he was not treated well Saturday night at the SSCW show and maybe that was why he hopped a flight back home first thing Sunday morning. I can tell you that HTM was treated very professionally by everyone at the show Saturday and when I said goodbye to him after his match he seemed to be in a very good mood, laughing, joking and smiling. I’m not going to speculate what made him not appear at the JCW show. It’s none of my business. That’s between HTM and Ricky O.
So here’s my moral of the story:
Grow up! There, simple and to the point. Take responsibility for your own actions. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Not one person or promotion is perfect, so why don’t you try to build your company up instead of ripping another down. If you say you love wrestling, than do what’s best for it instead of yourself. Handle your business as an adult. In the words of a very wise man “Don’t act like a retard!” I hope if nothing else this leads a few people to think before they act.

So I had a pretty busy weekend which included The Mic bugging me about where my next column was. As I sat down Monday morning to write this column I came up with a complete blank. It’s really not my intent just to write pointless columns just to amuse myself and the Mic. Then I ventured over to the DOI message board where I have to admit, I visit a few times a day just to keep on top of all the good gossip. I found myself reading multiple messages about JCW and SSCW and a few other promotions and I started to wonder. Then I started to get a little agitated. Finally I started to question. Why is it that self proclaimed wrestling fans shit all over it?
Everyone make sure to tune in and catch DOI Radio which debuts on Thursday, April 1st at 10:00 PM EST.
