Angry Young Man - Matt Dawg
The Random Column.....
Everyone does it, it comes every once and a while. A column by someone who just rambles on and on from topic to topic with zero sense of semblance or logic. Well folks, today is mine. So if you don't want to read a bunch of thoughts from me, feel free to click the back button on your browser and go fake post about the Funker or Frankie Starz. Otherwise, enjoy.
(CHEAP PLUG ALERT) Don't know if you folks checked it out or not but I made my debut writing for the number one wrestling parody website on the planet, www.gumgod.com. If you haven't yet, just click the link or type the address into your browser and check it out. There are tons of funny articles and parodies listed there for everyone to read and laugh at. The owner of the site, Derek Burgan happens to also write fantastic Ring of Honor DVD reviews for the www.pwtorch.com website. So if you are an ROH fan and would like to catch up on DVD's that you may have missed, go read his reviews. Fantastic stuff.
(END OF CHEAP PLUG ALERT)
Speaking of ROH, it appears according to Mike Johnson, that they have resolved their beef with TNA and that "The Phenomenal" A.J. Styles, "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels and The Amazing Red will be back in ROH by the end of summer/early fall. Alex Shelly and Chad Collyer have both signed deals with TNA and were told by Jeff Jarrett that they can continue working for ROH in the meantime. So it looks like now that Robbie F. is really gone, we can get back to the good stuff in ROH with the main angles (The Pure Wrestling Title & The Prophecy Angle) finally coming to a head. Zero-One has also squashed their beef with ROH (due to RF bootlegging Dreamstage Entertainment footage) and it may open the door for Steve Corino, Low-Ki and Spanky to make their ROH returns. Let's keep our fingers crossed as the six above names all helped Ring of Honor get on the map. Add them to the healthy mix of talent you currently see in ROH and you have a potent roster.
Speaking of rosters, someone tell me how USA Pro wrestling managed to cut down their roster significantly and still have a 6+ hour show in June? A lot of people were not there and the show still ran long. Not that I am complaining as the show was pretty damn good from beginning to end which is not always the case on USA Pro shows. My client "The Physical Phenomenon" Poppalishus lost to April Hunter even though that punk son of a bitch Slyk Wagner Brown stuck his nose where it didn't belong and blindsided the both of us. Next time I will slap the black off him if he sticks his nose in my business.
Dana Dameson & Briana Bryans both fired from USA Pro Wrestling. An interesting subject to touch on as I like them both personally and wish them the best but maybe this was for the better. With Dana, you can tell by talking to her and looking at her that she wants to be in wrestling. She enjoys it a lot and likes the shows. However, on the other foot, she was rushed into the spot she was given way too fast. She had no experience in wrestling and yet was pushed into major angles on shows with no explanation and no training other than what they told her to do prior to the angle. That was made apparent to me at USAPW "Deadly Sins". She seemed kind of lost out there and the angle with Billy Reil was just blah. Her speech was rushed and inaudible to the point where Reil had to repeat what she said so everyone who didn't hear her on the mic understood. Let's hope she doesn't give up and gets back into the swing of things with some practice and hard work. Message to Dana, you go to AWA shows all the time, maybe you should practice there and work their shows only while you hone your craft. Once you improve, come back to USAPW. Just a thought, feel free to bash me in fake posts for giving you unsolicited advice.
As for Briana, I like her as well. She is cool with me which is why it shocked me to hear that a lot of people do not want her in the locker room. I mean if traveling 9 hours on a bus, paid for with her own money, to travel from Buffalo to come work shows which she doesn't get paid for doesn't show that she wants it, I don't know what does. As far as training goes, she did get training at a school in Buffalo but come on folks, how reliable is Buffalo? Once she moves to the NY/NJ/CT area, then she can get the proper training to get better at what she does. I know for a fact that she watches wrestling constantly so she is learning. She is still new to the business and trying to get better herself. As for Mike Zevon and The Masked Maniac, who were discussing her on The Hotline (516-214-8333), Briana did work for the SSCW show that was on fire (literally). Simon Diamond put her alongside myself and Poppalishus in his match with Johnny Heartbreaker. She even took a bump off the apron. A bump that messed up her knee and gave her a huge bruise. But...... I am only one person with one opinion. If others do not like her and wish her gone, then maybe she should work smaller shows as well until those who dislike her can get to see that she is trying.
Since we are on the topic of people getting heat, EC Negro. A lot of people have been bashing him and complaining about his decision making lately. I see the picture from both sides. Not for nothing, I understand where both sides of the coin are coming from. I do not know what goes on in other promotions backstage but I do have an idea of the SAT situation and even though it is not my business I am going to be a scmuck and comment on it anyway. I totally agree with him and what he said about the SAT. Not for nothing, the SAT have done nothing but constantly sh*t on USA Pro Wrestling and Frank Goodman. If you scroll through my previous columns I wrote the following in column number 5 titled "RANDOM THOUGHTS":
It is only a matter of time before the Maximo's are back USA Pro for the 150 millionth time. Just my opinion.
Guess what? I was right. How many times can these guys crap on one promotion? How many times can they no show, double book or refuse to job to someone and still be brought back? Then, when they are brought back, they come in and are going to put over a team who has never no showed, double booked or refused to job prior to that day? Not for nothing, while the SAT are a good team and improving more and more, they do not deserve all the special favors they get. I don't blame Negro for not wanting to put them over. As for the other things he has been rumored to be doing, I can't comment cause I don't know for sure. But I do not that he was in the right, late to the show or not. The Maximos get treated with kid gloves by many people in wrestling and it is about time it ended.
TEDDY HART, WHERE IS GOODMAN'S $290.00????
CZW's Best of the Best Tournament. Wish I had seen it. But Sonjay Dutt winning it all comes as no surprise. I have seen him for the past year in several matches and he is the f*cking man. He works his ass off and I don't think I have ever seen him blow a spot. Amazing considering he does a lot of high flying stuff in the ring. He has the tools to be a major player in the Indies this year.
Speaking of someone with tools to be a major player, Jay Lethal come on down!!! I remember when he won the J-Cup and beat Homicide I was thinking to myself, Jay who? But lo and behold, Lethal busted his ass and has quickly become one of the most sought after Indy wrestlers around. In the ring, he is a machine. If anyone can get a hold of the Four Way Dance at USAPW Meltdown 2 between Jay, Sonjay, Red and Deranged, watch it closely and turn up the volume so you can hear the chops and slaps between Jay Lethal and Red when they are on the outside of the ring. Sickening!!!
I read on the DOI message board that Joel Grayson got a job writing for 1wrestling.popup.bob.com. Congrats bro. It seems like Joel is going to be focusing on the Gross National Product on Iraq and how it correlates into the professional wrestling business there between rival promotions like the Iraqi Wrestling Council (IWA) against the AQWN (Al Qaeda Wrestling Network). Good Luck Joel.
"Bulletproof" Billy Reil. While Billy and I have not seen eye to eye on numerous political subjects like The Yankees, The Phillies sucking monkey c*ck, The Eagles choking when the big ones come, I must send my condolences on his house being burned down by (she who shall not be named) arsonists. It pains me to think that the wrestling business can be this ruthless, especially over some crap. But hey, no one was injured and Billy is now in Sin City, shaking down Pimps for money. So more power to him.
Johnny "Bi-San" Bravado vs. Samoa Joe in 2004? Could happen.
Glad to see Quiet Storm back. He looks better in the ring than before he left to Japan.
Big year for the following wrestlers: "M-Tizzle" Mike Tobin, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, The Christopher Street Connection, B-Boy, Poppalishus, Jack Evans, The AWA, Pinkie Sanchez & none other than "No Gimmicks Needed" Chris Candido. Candido better be in the WWE by the end of the year. He has been on fire for the past few months. Him vs. Eddie Guerrero on Smackdown.
Real World news:
Shaquille O'Neal to the Miami Heat. How much of a bad move was that by the Lakers? Seriously. Especially since the Lakers are letting Kobe make all the goddamn decisions regarding the team. He picks the coaches, makes sure people get traded. Ridiculous.
But the bright side of this is that Karl Malone may just get his ring. Rumors have it that he is going to either re-join Shaq in Miami or...... he is going to join Tim Duncan in San Antonio.
Yankees in 4. Watch.
Rhetorical Questions:
Is anyone else getting into John Bradshaw Layfield on Smackdown? I am starting to get used to him. I think that if he was gradually put into a main event slot with this gimmick, it would have gotten over better. But since he was just thrown up there is where the backlash came from.
Where is Brian XL? Every time he pops up, he has some solid matches in different promotions and then disappears again.
Is Chris Divine retired? He is another one. Tons of potential.
UWA or AWA? My pick, AWA. Just my opinion.
Is Kevin Matthews still in The Life in USA PRO? He busted his ass at "Deadly Sins" yet was no where to be found at "Meltdown"
All right folks, that is all of my rambling for now. You can now return to your friendly bashing of me by calling me names on message boards. I will be back soon with a thought provoking, in depth column. OUT!!!
