(These are ROH results with Adams thoughts. He didn't take any notes because he wanted to enjoy the show for what it was, but still was able to bang out this informative article. Enjoy.)
They drew an astonishing crowd for what was basically an autograph session with a throwaway show included as a bonus. Minimum 500 people, probably more like 700.
Sumie Sakai d. Allison Danger in the opener. The usual very good Sakai match with Danger keeping up nicely. The All Japan guys all popped for Sumie. This match was a late addition to the card and it was definitely a good call to put it on.
Josh Daniels d. Puma. Match never really came together. Daniels is normally excellent but this one didn't seem to gel and was the only disappointing match on the card. It didn't stink or anything, it just didn't do much for me.
Ring Crew Express vs Christopher Street Connection [w/Ariel] went to a no contest in about one minute when CM Punk interrupted, took out Dunn & Marcos, and ran the Lucy schtick again. Already his 2nd interruption on the show iirc. This led into...
CM Punk d. Mace of the CSC. Surprisingly competitive match that saw CSC doing their usual comedy stuff but Mace also dishing out some stiff chops and other vicious offense before finally being overwhelmed by Punk. Good match.
Hydro d. Oman Tortuga [or maybe it was the Outkast Killa, I get them mixed up], Slyk Wagner Bown w/April, and Nick Gage. Very enjoyable match that was largly carried by Hydro and Gage with SWB getting a few good moves in. Hyrdo/Jay Lethal is too talented to remain stuck in the Special K gimmick, they need to break him out of there. Gage, who was in his CZW H8 Club gear, was allowed to look supringly strong and got [and earned] a good reaction. I wouldn't mind seeing him put in a regular ROH card. After the match Carnage Crew hit the ring an attacked Special K which went directly into....
Carnage Crew [Loc, DeVito and Justin Credible] went to a no contest with Special K [all of em!] when the PA State Athletic comissioner stopped the match due to all the bleeding by all 3 of Crew. and some of K. I have no idea if the stoppage was a work or not. Crew WIPED OUT the Special K guys after the bell rang and put either Izzy or Dixie thru a table with a spike piledriver. Special K's numbers eventually overwhelmed CC, which resulted in Slugga [w/Julius Smokes] coming to the ring and clearig every body out, but not before giving Cloudy a chokeslam that must have panted him halfway to China.
Trent Acid d. Sonjay Dutt. Awesome. On a par with Dutt's USAPW match against Low Ki. This match alone was more than worth the $5 and could easily serve as a main event anywhere.
Briscoe Brothers barely squeaked by the SAT to retain the ROH tag team titles. Best SAT match I have seen in a very long time, possibly ever. They opened with several minutes of really cool stuff where both teams kept hitting the same moves at the same time and doing really quick, even exchanges of offense. The opening minutes were reminiscent of the the opening minutes of Low Ki v Red from ROH Road To The Title.
All in all the best five bucks I have spent in a while.
American Dragon v Jay Briscoe featured the expected stiff chops from hell. Good match. Dragon won with Cattle Mutilation.
Those of you who have followed he NYC wrestling scene for a while - or read The Mic's review of ICW "Last Stand at Elks Lodge" - know what Xavier is capable of doing with a ladder. He didn't disappoint tonight vs John Walters in the Fight Without Honor. Frigging brutal, and despite the no-blade rule Xavier bled buckets.
Striker vs Whitmer - eh. I'm not a huge fan of this stuff. Apparently I'm not the only one as Stryker actually got a ton of boos during his speech accepting the FOH win.
Marc Briscoe vs Samoa Joe was very good and probably got hurt a little by having so much off-the-page stuff on the rest of the show.
So BJ Whitmer took out Lucy. Go back and look at my 11/28 ROH review [if it's still up] and you'll see I called him as the possible assailant since he never actually denied it. At least now Punk can stop interrupting the show all night, every night.
ALL the ROH vs All Japan matches were off the charts.
Colt Cabana/CM Punk vs Tumeric Storm was too good for words, my favoite match on the show. Just great old fashioned tag team wrestling. An easy five star match. Also a last hurrah from Cabana for a couple of months as he will be out healing some injuries.
Kaz Hayashi vs AJ Styles was great. Just buy the tape.
Kojima vs Homicide = another 5 star match. Kojima worked the crowd so well that Homicide wound up as the de facto heel in this match because the fans were _that_ into Kojima. Kojima thanked the crowd in English after the match.
Great Muta is very clearly showing the physical effects of all those years working his style, but the man can still turn it on when the bell rings. I was NOT disppointed. His partner Arashi did a lot of really good, subtle stuff to get the psychology working too.
I would rate this one as the best ROH show of all time. Considering what a nut I am for this promotion that should tell you something.
