Random Live Notes and Things You Didn’t See on the PPV
-- Fans for Victory Road were turned away at the door because the studio was full. However, Studio 21, the location for the Victory Road PPV, holds about 1,200 people, and I was told about 300 or so were paid fans. There were hundreds of fans that were comped for the PPV. They waited a few hours outside to get into the studio.
-- I was seated at the top section of the bleachers to the right of the heel tunnel, and because they had no curtain in one particular spot I could see all that was going on by the gorilla position for the heel tunnel.
-- There were several people in attendance that didn’t make appearances on the PPV. The main one in particular was Hulk Hogan. He was there checking out the PPV with his good friend, Nasty Boy Brian Knobbs. I was told that Hogan left almost the second that Macho Man Randy Savage arrived. Also seen in the back were James Mitchell and Johnny Devine.
-- For the entire beginning of the PPV there was a maskless Abyss walking around. In the weirdest moment of the night we witnessed Abyss picking his nose for the better part of the entire PPV. Anytime we saw him he was picking his nose. It was actually pretty funny to hear some of the fans just randomly yell out, “He’s picking his nose AGAIN!”
-- After the 8-man tag match, they teased Dallas arguing with Kid Kash and the Naturals arguing amongst themselves.
-- When Scott Hall came out for his promo all the wrestlers in the heel section gathered around the gorilla position to watch the promo. They appeared to be really into it. Also, Hall seemed to be very sociable with many of the wrestlers while in the back.
-- All of the wrestlers would cover their ears anytime pyro went off. They covered their ears during the beginning, at the end of the tag titles match and during Abyss’ entrance. It was funny because the entire section would just watch the wrestlers to know when to cover their ears.
-- After the Piper’s Pit segment, Piper and Snuka embraced. I don’t think that made it on the PPV.
-- In the funniest moment of the night, Raven came up to Abyss after their Monster’s Ball match and gave him a hug and a joking peck on the cheek. It was pretty funny stuff.
-- Random trashcans were placed throughout the crowd during the Monster’s Ball match. Also, during this match they did a close-up of TNA owner Dixie Carter who was sitting in the crowd for some odd reason. This was followed up by a shot of a sign for DOI, which I got one of the members of the pit to hold up during the PPV. I’m not sure how often it was seen on the PPV. For some odd reason they showed Dixie Carter one more time during this match as she showed concern for Abyss when he went through the thumbtacks. You would think that the camera guys would know what she looks like and that they wouldn’t show her in the crowd during the PPV.
-- Following the Monster’s Ball match, they removed the mat with the tacks on, and they had a fresh mat underneath. I’m surprised that more promotions that use thumbtacks don’t do this.
-- Now Abyss is in the back, and they are removing the thumbtacks from his body. For some odd reason they began to film it, and they filmed a shot of his back. I’m guessing it was to show all of the scars from the thumbtacks.
-- Jeremy Borash would randomly throw t-shirts into the crowd to keep the crowd hot. I picked up on that he would throw them when the crowd seemed to cool down. It worked a few times.
-- During the Triple X vs. America’s Most Wanted match, the crowd began to boo and chant “boring.” What they didn’t know is that Prime Time suffered a legit concussion during the match, and that is why the match seemed really sloppy. When they got Prime Time to the back he seemed really messed up. They finally laid him down on what looked to be a massage table. Several wrestlers would periodically check up on him. They included Christopher Daniels, Kid Kash, Jerry Jarrett, Hector Garza, Scott D’Amore, D-Ray 3000 and America’s Most Wanted. Also, once it appeared that Prime Time was ok, Raven would go up to him and pretend to jump in his face and do a funny dance in front of him. It looked like he was trying to make him laugh.
-- Before the World Title match, they had members of security trying to hang the title above the ring. It was funny because it looked like they struggled a bit. This should have been done way before the PPV even started.
-- I’m not sure if you could see this on TV, but there was pyro that shot out of Jeff Jarrett’s guitar during his entrance. It had some red light in the back of the guitar, which is where I’m assuming the pyro came out of.
-- I noticed that Raven changed from the kilt that he wears to wrestle and into a new kilt. I guess he wears them out in public. I thought it was just his gimmick.
-- During the World Title match you could see a guitar hanging in the face tunnel. You could also see someone standing back there. It turned out to be Kevin Nash. They really should have hid the guitar and Kevin Nash because you knew that something was going to happen. It wasn’t a surprise at all.
-- Macho Man Randy Savage, Konnan, BG James, AJ Styles and Ron Killings all remained in the ring after they had chased Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and Jeff Jarrett out of the ring. I’m not sure if that made it onto the end of the PPV.
-- The loudest pops of the night went to the following:
Jerrelle Clark’s 630 during the 20-man X Division Gauntlet match.
Spanky Entrance.
La Parka Entrance.
The thumbtack spot with Raven, Monty Brown and Abyss.
Scott Hall promo.
“Lets go AJ/Petey” duel chants.
“Lets go Jarrett/Hardy” duel chants.
Jeff Hardy ladder spot where he flips the ladder into Jarrett’s face.
I'll have a full review later on.
