Match 1 – Louie-G and Chasyn Rance w/Josh Rich wrestled to a no-contest.
Louie-G comes out with no music. I guess there were problems with the sound system. Louie-G comes to the ring dressed as the Super Mario Bros. Character. I really can’t stand silly gimmicks like this one. Rance comes out with Josh Rich rather than his normal manager, Mister Saint Laurent. The match starts off with a bit of mat wrestling. Louie-G ends up outside the ring where he gets beat down by Josh Rich. Back in the ring Rance his an enziguri and then applies some leg submissions. Louie-G keeps reversing the holds, but Rance keeps reversing them back. You could tell that Louie-G wasn’t on the same page as Rance. Louie-G finally gets his comeback by hitting a ‘rana from the top rope. The finish of the match saw Louie-G going for a pin when Rich pulled the ref out of the ring to break up a count. Rich gets into the ring and he and Rance begin to attack Louie-G. The referee calls for the bell, and the ring announcer announces that the match has been ruled a no-contest. Why was it ruled a no-contest? Rich was at ringside with Rance, so if he interfered on Rance’s behalf then shouldn’t the decision have been Louie-G winning by DQ? Either way, Maree-o comes out to save his partner. Wow, these two gimmicks are extremely cheesy. They clear Rance and Rich from the ring.
Match 2 – Kid Romeo defeated Wild Bill.
Romeo comes out to “This is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan. I thought it was hilarious for him to come out to that. Romeo cuts a promo where he pretty much just tells everybody to shut up, and he tells his opponent that he needs a tan. That was a shoot because his opponent was extremely pale. Romeo starts off the match by working on Wild Bill’s arm. While Romeo is working on Wild Bill’s arm is when it hits me that this match has a former WCW star wrestling one of the NNW students. My how the mighty have fallen. Romeo has Wild Bill on the top turnbuckle when he jumps up and does this crazy lucha move. I’ve never seen it before, and I don’t even know how to describe it. It was like a victory roll bomb from the top rope. It was very nice. During the entire match Wild Bill’s tights are falling down. I’m not sure how that happens because I thought tights are supposed to cling to your body, but they were falling nonetheless. Bill counters all of Romeo’s offense by hitting a DDT. Romeo cuts that off extremely quick though. At this time, my friend Pat Three yells out for Romeo to entertain us. Romeo begins to gyrate. Very funny interaction between Romeo and the fans. Romeo finishes Wild Bill off by hitting his finisher, the Kryptonite Krunch.
Match 3 – Barney Rumble defeated Rip Malibu.
Rumble and Malibu lock up, and they do the fake punch spot in the corner where the referee goes to separate the wrestlers in the corner and the heel claps his hands and takes a bump so the referee thinks that the face illegally hit him. They do this twice, but when they go for the third time Malibu actually punches him. It’s early in the match when the crowd begins calling for Malibu’s surfboard elbow. Malibu ends up doing it. As silly as the move is, it is really over with the crowd in NNW. Hey, silly moves worked for the Rock and Scotty 2 Hotty, so why not Rip Malibu? Malibu is still very green, but you can tell he has a lot of potential when he does things like this up and over schoolboy in the corner that he did. It was very sweet looking. Rumble eventually gets the upper hand and does his 3 neck breaker combo spot and follows it up with a pump-handle power bomb. They go into a roll-up spot where they reverse each other’s roll-up, but Malibu keeps falling off. I’m not sure if that was supposed to be the finish or not, but Rumble gets the pin with a pump-handle face plant.
Match 4 – Drunken Luchador Bob, Rouge and WiKiD defeated Snow in a 3 on 1 handicap match.
Drunk Luchador Bob (DLB) comes out wearing the oddest mismatching lucha attire I have ever seen. He also has a piñata with a mask on it. He stumbles to the ring, then he begins to walk into the crowd pretending to be drunk and not being able to find the ring. This is the Mic’s favorite wrestle, and he doesn’t even know it yet. Snow is in the middle of the ring when Rouge and WiKiD get taken down. DLB heads toward Snow, but he falls face first to the mat. Oh I get it, he’s drunk. Snow is now in the ring with WiKiD, and Snow is giving him far too much. The whole concept of a handicap match is that the one guy is that much stronger than two guys. and in this case, three guys. It doesn’t look good when one of the guys is going toe-to-toe with the big guy. My case in point is that WiKiD hit a head scissors takedown on Snow. That should never have happened. WiKiD is this really small guy and compared to Snow the head scissor takedown just wasn’t believable. He should have just body slammed Snow to further my point. Snow does take control of the match and calls for his donkey punch. It’s just a discus punch to the back of the head. He did almost take his head off. Surprisingly, the 3 guys get the pinfall on Snow when they clip him from behind as he’s going to power bomb one of them. All three jump on Snow for the pin.
Intermission
Match 5 – Barney Rumble defeated BoneZ
This match is started because Rumble comes to the ring and complains that he isn’t getting pushed in NNW. I don’t understand it because he does get pushed here. Hell, he has gone over on the owner of NNW on numerous occasions. He challenges BoneZ to a match, which he accepts. They look like they’re going to do their spot where they do a test of strength and back each other in the corner where the heel climbs the top rope and the face lets go thus allowing the heel to fall from the top rope. This time Rumble keeps his balance on the top ropes when BoneZ lets go. In this variation though BoneZ kicks the top rope and Rumble falls on the top turnbuckle. Rumble should just stop with the tests of strength. This match was relatively short, but it saw BoneZ hit his finisher but it doesn’t seem like he goes for the pin anymore following it. Rumble picks up the win when he rolls up BoneZ and puts his feet on the rope. This leads to them brawling outside of the ring.
Match 6 – Erick Stevens defeated David Mercury.
This match was originally supposed to be Stevens vs. Vordell Walker. Walker couldn’t make it, so he was then replaced by TNA wrestler D-Ray 3000. Something with D-Ray’s flight wouldn’t allow him to make it on time, so they switched it to Stevens vs. Mercury. Mercury was scheduled to wrestle Thump Dupree, but he wasn’t there. I’m not sure what’s up with Thump, but this is the 2nd show in a few weeks that I’ve been to that he was scheduled to appear but didn’t. Now the reason I mention all of this is because after all that was said and done, Mercury and Stevens ended up having my match of the night. Stevens begins the match by working over Mercury. Mercury gets a quick comeback by hitting a ‘rana and then an enziguri. Mercury sent Stevens into the corner, but as Mercury was running towards him Stevens caught him in the air and drove him into the mat. They go back and forth a bit with Mercury doing a nice full nelson into a German suplex and a wristclutch Exploder, and Stevens countering with a Lariat and his bowling spot where he does the cannonball into Mercury who is on the mat in the corner. They go through another sequence of reversals for some false finishes, but Stevens pulls it out when he makes Mercury tap out. Following the match, the crowd begins to cheer for both men as Stevens teases that he’s going to help Mercury. He raises his arms, but he immediately clotheslines Mercury. The crowd boos him as he yells “I’m a bad guy, baby!” That is the greatest catch phrase ever. He needs t-shirts made immediately.
Match 7 – Naphtali defeated NNW Cruiserweight Champion Ricky Romeo to become the new NNW Cruiserweight Champion.
Ricky Romeo comes out to no music at all. Most guys would have panicked, especially in Ricky’s shoes because he has the whole salsa-dancing gimmick. No music means no dancing. The sound guy begins to play the new Trick Daddy song, so Romeo comes out and starts some bootie shaking. It was funny, as well as a nice cover from Romeo. The crowd ate it up. The match starts off with Romeo outsmarting Naphtali. They do the criss-cross spot where Romeo stops running, but Naphtali continues to run until it gets to the point where he’s blown up. Another spot sees Naphtali on his back holding Romeo’s arm where he’s going to kip up. The only problem is that Romeo releases his arm so Naphtali goes nowhere. I thought it was a good comedic spot. Romeo ends up outside of the ring when Naphtali climbs the top rope and does a sweet somersault plancha to Romeo. He hit Romeo square on the shoulders and landed right on his feet. Back in the ring, Naphtali hits his Garvin Stomp but Romeo counters with his patented spinebuster. Now we see Naphtali go for a Shining Wizard, but he ends up hitting the referee instead. Romeo hits one more spinebuster. Naphtali powders and goes under the ring. Romeo is looking for him when Naphtali comes out on the other side of the ring with a baby powder in hand. He goes into the ring and throws the powder in Romeo’s face. He his him with a Shining Wizard. The referee is stumbling back, so Naphtali hits Romeo with another Shining Wizard for good measure. Naphtali is the new NNW Cruiserweight champion. The match was very entertaining, especially with Romeo dancing and then Naphtali mocking his dancing.
Match 8 – Sedrick Strong defeated NNW Overall Champion Jerrelle Clark to become the new NNW Overall Champion.
They have been building to this match for a while, so it was good to finally see it happen. They start off with some good chain wrestling. This leads Clark to go for his Clark Bar early, but Strong moves out of the way. I’m a big fan of when someone moves out of the way when his opponent goes for one of their patented moves. It gives the illusion that “He has done his homework.” Clark gets a couple of arm drags and a nice drop salt, which leads to Strong powdering. While Strong is regrouping outside, Clark hits an Asai Moonsault onto Strong. Back in the ring, Strong counters Clark’s offense by hitting an STO. Clark gains the upper hand once again by hitting a top rope, spinning double jump moonsault. If it sounds confusing that’s because I have no clue what to call it. I described it as best that I could. Clark follows it up by hitting his Clark Bar this time. He then goes into a springboard tornado DDT. This whole sequence was really nice on Clark’s part. Now it’s time for Strong. Strong hits an Exploder on Clark that dumps him right on his head. He does it one more time. Clark counters by hitting the Code Red for a two count. Now we get a ref bump that really leads to nothing. It was more of a teaser than anything. The referee comes back just in time as Strong applies the Cobra Clutch to Clark who taps out. Strong is the new NNW Overall champion. They embrace after the match. It was definitely a good match.
Final Thoughts –
Overall, this was the best of the 3 NNW shows that I’ve been to. It kind of started off a bit slow, but the second half of the show was really solid. First, what I didn’t like. This may have been the first Chasyn Rance match that I didn’t like, and I’ve seen him wrestle numerous times. I really liked seeing Kid Romeo wrestle this time, but I would have rather he wrestled someone else. Perhaps Rance vs. Kid Romeo would’ve been great? The offense that WiKiD got on Snow was a bit too much for me. Now, the good in the show. I thought the last three matches were very good. Stevens and Mercury may have stolen the show. I thought Strong and Clark was very good too, so maybe stealing the show was a bad choice of words. Naphtali vs. Ricky Romeo was highly entertaining. I really liked NNW’s decisions to put over the new titleholders. The final three matches carried this show for NNW. I’ve always been a firm believer in having the second half of the show carry the first half. Too many times on the indie scene you see the mid-card guys carry the show while the main event stuff is the promoter putting over his buddies. I don’t think that was the case here. Well, if it was the case, then I guess I give credit to BoneZ for having buddies that can actually wrestle.
