Match 1 – Vordell Walker and Scott Hotshot w/Ipuna wrestled to a draw in a 20 minute Iron Man match.

The first match is about to start as they announce Vordell Walker. Walker doesn’t immediately come out. Stunt 101, Walker’s entrance music, almost plays in its entirety as the crowd waits for Walker to come through. Finally they cut it off and out comes Naphtali. It’s obvious filler time, so I didn’t really pay attention to what he said. O.G. Scarface and Ana Mosity come out to cut a promo about their match later tonight. They chase Naphtali to the back and we’re about to get under way again. The show finally gets under way by having one of its matches where the winners will face off in the main event to crown a #1 contender for the NNW Overall championship currently held by Jerrelle Clark. This match was advertised on their website and flyers as a 20 minute Iron Man match but nothing was said by the ring announcer before the match. I was under the impression that the Iron Man match gimmick was dropped. Both guys start off slow by trying to feel each other out. Because of the way they started the match you could tell that the gimmick match was indeed still on, but they just hadn’t announced it. The crowd is going to love this one. Walker begins throwing some stiff kicks to Hotshot’s legs. They end up outside the ring where Hotshot gets posted and Walker follows it up with a clothesline. Back in the ring, Walker hits a wind up STO at the 7 minute mark for the first pin fall. The crowd pops because they think that the match is over. The ring announcer now announces that the winner is the one who has the most pin falls in 20 minutes. It was about seven minutes too late for that announcement.

We get started again, and we see a top rope leg drop from Hotshot for a two count. This leads to a series of reversals that all go for two counts. Hotshot gets in some offense which eventually leads to the Walker hot comeback. Hotshot misses a flying knee and Walker hits him with a German Suplex for his 2nd pin fall at 14:30. Walker is now up 2-0. There is now under a minute left in the match, and Walker is still up 2-0. That all changes when Hotshot is on the ring apron and gets suplexed in by Walker. Hotshot’s valet, Ipuna, grabs Walker’s leg and Hotshot gets the pin. The announcer says that there is only 30 seconds left in the match which can only mean one thing. We’re about to get a rushed finish. Hotshot gets up and hits Walker with some time of Full Nelson Slam, but the only problem is that it looked like they just fell over. Hotshot gets the tying pinfall and time expires. The ring announcer says that it’s a time limit draw. Nothing is said about who advances into the main event ladder match. The crowd The NNW Overall champion, Jerrelle Clark, was in attendance, so I was guessing that the winner of the other match in the tournament was going to end up facing him tonight. Damn, was I ever wrong.

Match 2 – Rouge defeated Thump Dupree.

This is a rematch from the previous NNW show that saw Rouge win by DQ when Dupree didn’t release a submission hold following an initial victory. I always hated that finish. Anyway, Rouge comes out to a respectable pop. I’m really not sure why because he is very old looking, and it really shows in the ring. Early in the match we see Dupree straddle Rouge’s legs in the corner, and he then executes a standing drop kick square into Rouge’s face. I’ve seen him do it before, and it still boggles my mind how he can do it because he’s actually kind of short. Dupree goes for a suplex, but Rouge turns it into a small package for a two count. Rouge whips Dupree into the corner. Rouge runs at him, but Dupree looks to give him a boot to the face. The only problem is that Rouge almost stopped on a dime in front of Dupree because of fear of taking the boot, and it looked really bad. Dupree rolls up Rouge with his feet on the ropes. The ref sees this and stops the pin. Rouge ends up doing the same thing except that he gets the pin fall. Following the match, Dupree hits Rouge with a Gory Special. Why does Rouge continue to get a push from certain promotions? Isn’t obvious to them, as it is to me, that he really isn’t a good wrestler?

Match 3 – Sedrick Strong defeated Erick Stevens in a Last Man Standing match.

Sedrick Strong comes out in new tights which I interpret as he’s going over in this match and didn’t feel like wearing the same tights in the main event. Erick Stevens comes out to unbelievable heel heat. I think a lot of it was left over animosity from when he almost attacked a kid at the last show because the kid confessed to throwing a chair at him even though he hadn’t even done it. Stevens was walking around the ring when he slipped on some spilled water. The look on his face was priceless. He makes his way around when Strong, who is in the ring this entire time, does a somersault plancha onto him. Strong picks Stevens up and runs him into a wall. He proceeds to clear the fans out of their chairs so that he can whip Stevens into them. They make their way around the ring with Strong repeatedly hitting him with cookie sheets along the way. Strong now has Stevens standing up against a post. He jumps off of a chair but Stevens catches him and rams his back into the post. He then tossed Strong like a sack of potatoes onto a bunch of empty chairs vacated by my entire section. We finally get back into the ring which I believe is really the start of the match. Strong has Stevens in the corner and begins to punch him. He also hits him with a nice drop kick. They tease the 10 count that you need to win a Last Man Standing match. Stevens gets a comeback where he hits 2 exploders on Strong. Strong gets up before the 10 count. The finish of the match saw Stevens take 3 vicious back drop drivers. Both men are down but Strong gets up at nine to win the match. This was an excellent match. I still can’t get over the 3 back drop drivers to Stevens. It was my match of the night.
-- Following the match we have a promo from Deathrow Jethrow. Now, how silly is this gimmick? He is supposed to be on death row but is given work release to wrestle. If that wasn’t bad enough, he is in prison in Louisiana yet gets flown out of state to Florida. Anyway, he cuts a promo to introduce us to his former cell mate Ant Man. Ant Man comes out and immediately starts yelling at a fan at ringside. The kid gets into his face and yells back. Jethrow then calls the fan into the ring. The plant walks nonchalantly into the ring. Jethrow hands him the mic. Wait, do I get to cut a promo the next time some one calls me into the ring? At this point, this has gone on too long. The plant fan insults Jethrow and Ant Man. Jethrow must have felt like he just got served because he now wants to shake the fan’s hand. The fan hesitantly shakes his hand but only to get clotheslined. Jethrow and Ant Man beat him down until Leon Scott makes the save. My God was this terrible.

Match 4 – Kid Romeo defeated NNW Cruiserweight champion Ricky Romeo but then loses to him in an impromptu match giving the title back to Ricky Romeo.

Both guys come out dancing to their music. They each cut promos where Kid says that Ricky is “A dumb Puerto Rican.” I guess Ricky is Puerto Rican this week. I like him better the weeks that he hails from Cuba. Ricky responds to Kid by asking him “Aren’t you Puerto Rican?” Kid says “But I’m not as dumb as you” and attacks him. I’m 100% Puerto Rican, and I think this promo made me slightly dumber by having to hear it. The match gets under way with Ricky hitting a bunch of arm drags. The rest of the match was pretty much Kid hitting Ricky with all kinds of moves. Ricky tried to get a hot comeback but Kid shot that idea down very quickly. Ricky eventually hits a spinebuster on Kid following a reversal. Both guys are now down. They get up, and Ricky gets another reversal that he turns into a DDT for a two count. Kid must not have liked this because he then took it home with a Kryptonite Krunch finish. Kid Romeo is the new champ. Or is he??? He calls out anyone in the back who wants a shot at the NNW Cruiserweight title. Out comes Rouge. Rouge steps into the ring but only to get a Kryptonite of his own. Kid pins Rouge for the 1-2-3. Ok, Kid Romeo’s challenge is over. That apparently is not the case because Ricky rolls him up from behind and gets a 3 count. He gets back his belt in this phantom title match. This really made no sense to me and kind of ruined an otherwise fairly good match.

Match 5 – Rip Malibu & BoneZ defeated Barney Rumble & Partner (Sorry, didn’t catch his name)

BoneZ and Rip Malibu come out to a huge pop. For any promoter who may be reading this, I would just like to tell you that it is in your best interest to book Rip Malibu. Why you ask? Is it because he’s an unbelievable wrestler? No, he’s very green but does have a lot of potential. You want to book him because the kid brings out the family and friends. Family + Friends = Tickets Sold. I swear there may be nearly 20+ people that come out solely for Rip Malibu. Rumble and partner come out. Rumble tricks his partner into going into the ring without him. His partner gets beat down while Rumble walks around the ring. BoneZ picks the partner up and launches him at Rumble outside of the ring. BoneZ and Rumble eventually meet up in the middle of the ring. Here we get the same Barney Rumble knuckle lock up spot that he does every match. He did it at their last show, so I’m surprised that he did it in the same promotion the very next show. Malibu makes his way into the ring and does his surfer elbow spot. Malibu then attempts a choke slam on Rumble’s partner but he turns it into a DDT. Rumble gets tagged into the match and beats down Malibu. Malibu gets a comeback and hits Rumble with a bulldog. Let the nonsense begin! BoneZ gets into the ring and hits a bulldog on Rumble. For no apparent reason Rumble’s partner gets into the ring and hits HIS PARTNER with a bulldog. Feeling left out, the REF HITS RUMBLE WITH A BULLDOG. I begin to feel light headed, so I go for a walk. I come back to see BoneZ receive the hot tag which leads to him hitting his finisher, a running crucifix power bomb. The only problem is that he doesn’t even go for a pin. BoneZ ends up holding Rumble’s partner on the second rope as he is on the ring side apron. Rumble runs at BoneZ and lands on him on the second rope. This looked like a botched move because they do it again but this time BoneZ moves and Rumble lands on his partner. Rumble then gets rolled up by Malibu who I think is not the legal man.

Intermission

Match 6 – Flatline defeated Wild Bill

This match starts out with Wild Bill attempting a plancha to Flatline outside of the ring. He ends up doing a belly flop to the floor. I know that had to hurt. Flatline goes for an Asai moonsault but almost slipped off the second rope. Luckily he held on, gathered himself and completed the move. The crowd was really dead during this match. Crowds tend to die down after intermission, so I know that had an effect on this match. Also, a good portion of the crowd that was cheering all night was Malibu’s people. Following his match, they were pretty much quiet the rest of the night. Back to the match, we get a bunch of spots which include a Wild Bill springboard elbow drop and a standing moonsault from Flatline. Flatline wins with a straight jacket hangman’s neckbreaker. Following the match, Flatline offered to shake the ref’s hand. When the ref shakes his hand Flatline immediately hits him with the straight jacket hangman’s neckbreaker. I’m really not sure why this happened. It was pointless. Even more pointless is that after he did this to the ref he helped carry the ref to the locker room. Does Flatline have split personalities?

Match 7 – Deathrow Jethrow w/Ant Man defeated Leon Scott

Deathrow Jethrow and Ant Man come out together. Leon Scott comes running out and attacks Jethrow and Ant Man. He clotheslines Ant Man who powders. The clothesline looked to hit Ant Man straight in the throat. Ouch. At this point I notice that the referee is the same ref that just got hit with Flatline’s finisher 2 minutes ago. He does have the common sense to sell the injury though. Scott goes to run the ropes but gets tripped up by Ant Man. This allows Jethrow to clothesline Scott. Jethrow begins to work on Scott for a few minutes. Scott eventually gets a comeback but that didn’t last long. He’s climbing the top rope as Ant Man gets on the ring apron to distract the ref. Jethrow makes it to his feet and kicks Scott in the balls while he’s climbing the top rope. Scott recovers from that but only to be distracted by Ant Man yet again. Ant Man is on the ring apron and drops Scott’s throat across the top rope and Jethrow hits an inverted jawbreaker for the win.

Match 8 – NNW Hardcore champion O.G. Scarface w/Ana Mosity defeated Naphtali to retain the title.

They start off this Hardcore title match by doing a little mat wrestling. Scarface goes for a trash can but Naphtali immediately powders. Somehow Scarface ends up under the ring trying to confuse Naphtali. Scarface comes out when Naphtali is facing he other way next to a chair set up. Scarface does his patented flying clothesline off of the chair to Naphtali as both guys fall over the top rope. Scarface comes back into the ring and does his plancha off of the very same chair onto Naphtali. They make their way back into the ring with Naphtali regaining the upper hand. He asks the crowd if they want to see something hardcore. The crowd pops because they want to see some weapons used. Naphtali instead fakes them out and does a rear chinlock instead. He keeps teasing that he’s going to do hardcore things but just goes back to basic wrestling holds. It’s a beautiful thing because the crowd is falling right into it and giving Naphtali the heat that he wanted. Naphtali goes for a sunset flip but Scarface ends up blocking it and dragging Naphtali toward a trash can lid. He begins to bang on his head as the crowd pops for something hardcore. Scarface then picks up a speeding sign but Naphtali kicks it in his face. Naphtali then does his tributes as he does the Polish Hammer and Garvin Stomp. He gets Scarface up and puts him in a Tree of Woe. He places a trash can over Scarface’s head and then executes a sweet looking Van Terminator. He only gets a two count out of it. Naphtali breaks some sort of stick over Scarface’s back. Ana has now made her way into the ring. Naphtali grabs her and places her on the top rope. He runs at her, but she gives him a boot to the face. She then executes a ‘rana from the top rope. This leads to a couple of signs to Naphtali’s head from Scarface and his Double Penetration finisher where he dropped Naphtali on a cookie sheet for the win. Following the match, Scarface offers Naphtali a kiss from Ana Mosity. Naphtali ends up kissing the referee when Scarface pushes the referee toward Naphtali with his eyes closed. The ref chases Naphtali away. It was kind of a hokey ending, but the match itself was very enjoyable.

Match 9 – Sedrick Strong defeated Vordell Walker and Scott Hotshot to become the #1 contender for the NNW Overall championship.

We’re finally at the main event and no one knows what the hell is going on with it. For a minute I was thinking that the hardcore title match was the main event because nothing was said about the ladder match. Well Vordell Walker’s music hits and he’s coming to the ring in gear. Scott Hotshot’s music hits and he’s coming to the ring in gear. I guess a draw meant that both guys would advance to the main event. It sure would have been nice to explain that to the fans. We were totally clueless as to what was going on. Sedrick Strong comes out, and we’re about to start. Strong initially sits back and allows Walker and Hotshot to wrestle each other. At some point in the match, Walker climbs the top rope and signals out Jerrelle Clark in the crowd. He yells “Mr. 630!” and attempts to do a 630 in honor of the NNW Overall champion. He ends up doing a 450, almost lands on his feet and then he does a somersault senton. If you add it all up it does equal a 630. Anyway, Walker stumbles back into the second rope when Hotshot does the second tribute to Clark by doing his Clark Bar onto Walker. Strong finishes up the “Jerrelle Clark Tribute Show” by doing a Code Red on Hotshot. The rest of the match is your typical 3 way match where spots involving all three are done. One in particular saw Walker have Hotshot hanging from the middle of the top rope and Strong doing a moonsault from the second rope onto Hotshot. We’re a good way into the match when I realize that the ladder hasn’t been used at all. Someone would try to set the ladder up, but Hotshot would continually move it. Eventually Strong sets up the ladder in the middle of the ring, and the ladder doesn’t look like it’s going to make it. It appeared to be a 15 ft wooden ladder that looked old and unsteady. The finish of the match saw Hotshot on the top rope while Strong was on Walker’s shoulders. Hotshot dove off looking to attempt a Doomsday Device when Strong did a victory roll on Walker. Hotshot hit the ladder and Strong got the pin on Walker. Wow, a ladder match where the ladder wasn’t used at all. The match itself was ok. I’m a fan of all three of these guys, so I kind of hold them in high regard. This wasn’t their best work, but it was still good enough to be an ok match.

Final Thoughts

-- There was a lot of confusion going on with this show. No one knew what was going on with the mini tournament to crown the #1 contender. The ring announcer forgot to announce crucial information that was pertinent to a few matches. Ricky Romeo winning his title back really made no sense at all. Kid Romeo challenged anyone in the back to a match. It was answered, and he won. How Ricky Romeo got the title is beyond me. Kid Romeo should have just challenged anyone, had someone come out half way to the ring and have Ricky Romeo roll him up from behind right away. That would have been more believable than what happened. On the bright side, Stevens/Strong was an excellent match. Naphtali/Scarface was also entertaining. I’ve always been a fan of the mat wrestling during hardcore matches gimmick. The battle of the Romeo’s and Hotshot/Walker weren’t bad matches even though the finish of the matches was not good. Overall, I felt the show lacked direction. It seemed the show was just thrown together, and that’s why important things were forgotten. There were too many good wrestlers on the card to say that it was an absolutely terrible show, but it was no where near how good the show could have been. I am looking forward to the next NNW show though because Sedrick Strong will be wrestling Jerrelle Clark for the title.
