I just wanted to do a quick rebuttal to the rebuttal submitted by Jeremy Wilcox to my recent Mid-Term Election Notes column, which I happen to agree with a lot of myself. But there were some things I felt he said that needed a reply on.
Mark Foley & Iraq
Jeremy said that the Mark Foley situation represents what is wrong with the Republican Party today. His reference is talking about how the GOP does not admit when they are wrong about things. I have to disagree with Jeremy to an extent here. I have heard over and over again from President Bush, Speaker Hastert and other Republicans that they were disgusted with Foley’s actions. I also heard them say that if he didn’t resign that he would have been forced out of office. To me that doesn’t sound like covering for Foley. It doesn’t sound like they are making excuses for the actions committed by Foley. It sounds like they disapprove of his actions. So how are the Republicans wrong on the Foley issue? Oh and for the record, that page that Foley did have sex with was over the age of 21. Is this a homophobic issue? Why is consensual sex with a 21 year old being thrown out there with the age of the page PURPOSELY left out? Its called PLAYING POLITICS.
Which leads me to Iraq. I think this not admitting to being wrong goes back to the war in Iraq and the WMD issue. We didn’t find the WMD’s we were looking for and the Administration wouldn’t admit they were wrong for going into Iraq and getting Saddam Hussein out of power. I personally think getting rid of Saddam, WMD’s or no WMD’s, was the right decision. Did Saddam keep the savage animals that are killing innocent Iraqis today under control? Maybe. But a lot of the killers who are doing what they are doing today are doing things under Iranian influence to stop democracy from prospering. Should we cower in the face of this enemy and leave? Should we walk away now and leave the savages to kill more innocents? If the Iraqi’s are ready to step up and protect themselves I’m all for getting the hell out of there. If they aren’t we’d be responsible for a genocide taking place. Well specifically the Democrats would be in my opinion. The Democrats need a platform to run against the Republicans so they choose the war in Iraq. Do they even believe leaving is the right move or do they just need to take the other side so they have something to run on?
They also say that the plan in Iraq is a failed plan and the Bush administration can not admit it. I think that’s wrong also. I think the plan was regime change and then to rebuild the country and build a democracy in the process. All this is going on. Of course there is opposition to it but should we just cut and run away because things don’t run smoothly? How short sighted is this philosophy that the war in Iraq is a failed war??? General Casey, who is on the ground in Iraq and the leader of the war on terror there constantly updates the President of what is going on. President Bush has told him that whatever he needs he will get. If he wants more troops he’ll get more troops. If he wants to change strategy he can do that too, and they have. They are constantly changing strategies on the ground in Iraq. For anyone sitting here at home in the United States to say they aren’t is plain ignorance and just a player of politics.
So admitting you are wrong about something is fine if you think you are wrong about it. Just because your opponent thinks you are wrong doesn’t make you wrong. The opponent of a political race would lie, cheat and steal to get that power. I think the Bush administration has been wrong about some things just like any other human being out there would be wrong about something. We all make mistakes and they should admit the mistakes they make, when they make them. Not just because the Democrats are crying that they are making mistakes.
Nancy Pelosi
If you want to secure our border then Nancy Pelosi is not for you. If you want to keep cutting taxes and put more money back into your own pocket, which has helped our booming economy then Nancy Pelosi is not for you. If you think its an absolute mistake and a disaster to pull of out Iraq too early, then Nancy Pelosi is not for you! If you DON’T want to retreat on the war on terror, Nancy Pelosi is not for you. If you want to be safe, well a person like Nancy Pelosi who has a pre-9/11/01 mentality, well Nancy is definitely NOT for you.
Recently Pelosi said that the people responsible for 9/11/01 have not been brought to justice. WTF!?!?!? Indeed they did and the ones who planned it are in custody in Cuba where they arrived recently after being water boarded and spilling the beans while crying like 10 year old girls. But hey we can't have that now can we Stretch Pelosi? Does she even know who was the mastermind? Does she know who Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is or where he is or what he’s said or why he said it? Please. Mrs. Pelosi is not what this country needs. At least in my opinion.
John Kerry the Flip Flopper
There is nothing wrong with changing your mind on an issue. Nothing at all. Its human behavior. We all do it. But the problem with Kerry is that his position changes every time he needs to take the other side for political purposes. Everyone knows it. He’s clear like glass and everyone sees right through him. As UNPOPULAR as George Bush is, as much as everyone hates him, Kerry still couldn’t beat him in an election. The Nation has ZERO confidence in John Kerry and hopefully he’ll keep himself on the sidelines.
Israel
Jeremy refers to an honest broker role the U.S. played in previous administrations. He’s talking about Bill Clinton inviting KNOWN TERRORIST Yassir Arafat to the White House numerous times so Arafat could LIE TO EVERYONES FACES and continue to allow Palestinian murderers to kill innocent Israelis. How on earth could Clinton invite that criminal to the White House? And not just 1 time either!!!! Bill’s wife Hillary hugged Arafat’s wife right after she made anti-Semitic comments to some audience she was speaking in front of!!!!!! These are the people who are honest brokers??? Give me a break. I’m sorry but this is the biggest difference of opinion I think I have with Jeremy. I think Jeremy is brilliant. He’s well thought out and knows his stuff. But anyone who thinks that negotiating with MURDERERS and appeasing MURDERERS is wrong and there’s nothing anyone can say or do to change my mind. Israel did not start any of the problems with security they have. They have been under attack since day 1. Democrats want to talk it out with the MURDERERS. Republicans want the MURDERERS brought to justice. Years after Arafat was wined and dined at the White House Mr. Arafat wanted to come into NYC for some shit which I don’t remember exactly what it was. But our former Mayor – the great Rudy Guiliani refused to allow it. Fuck that shit. The man is a murderous savage and the honest brokers were DUPED by Arafat. Just like they were DUPED by North Korea. Why would Clinton or any of these “honest brokers” think that Arafat wanted peace when it was so obvious he didn’t? He was in charge of the PLO and the Palestinians right? So why were so many innocent Israeli’s murdered while Arafat was alive? Honest Broker? I don’t think so. Its one thing to want to work out peace with Israeli’s and Palestinians but its another thing to obviously being duped by a killer who had no intentions of stopping the killing he supported.
You would NEVER have seen Arafat at the White House under the Bush administration.
Other stuff
Of course we are safer today then we were before 9/11. You need to stop only talking about the parts of the 9/11 Commission that suits your agenda. How many terror cells have been brought to justice since 9/11/01 in our country? How many attacks have been prevented? How many attacks have happened? Is Iraq more safe? No. That’s where the enemy has gone to fight us. They don’t want freedom in Iraq so they’ve gone there to fight us. Its that simple. Iraq is safer from Saddam Hussein and as long as we keep our resolve and stand our ground and never give up we’ll defeat the terrorists. But when you cut and run and leave that country and its innocent civilians to be slaughtered, well then Iraq and the world would be a much more dangerous place.
I agree that Al-Qaeda can not take away our freedoms. I disagree that Bush is doing it. I haven’t had 1 incident since 9/11/01 where my civil rights were trashed. I don’t know any American Citizen who has had their rights stomped on due to actions taken since 9/11/01. I have zero problem with the wire tapping. Its caught terrorists. They aren’t listening to my convos. I don’t talk to terrorists. If I were to be stopped in the subway so my bag can be checked, so be it. They’ll find a book, keys and a shirt. It will cost me 10 minutes of my life and I think I can live with that. If I’m getting on an airplane and it takes an hour or 2 longer, OH WELL. Someone should have done something about this a long time ago. Murderers who want Americans dead and will stop at nothing to achieve that goal are in our country and they will strike again if we don’t stop them. They can be wrong 32947324972409874 times and it means nothing. If we are wrong 1 time its over for us. How can we forget the 3000 people killed and the millions effected by September 11th 2001 so easily? We have to do everything in our power to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
The Constitution is something I view with tremendous respect. I wonder if our Founding Fathers understood that over 300 years from then terrorism would hit home. If they did know that, would they have put things in place back then? There is no telling. But what I do know is that today’s enemy is using tactics that are equal to the 21st century and Democrats want to fight them off using 20th century ideas and tactics.
If this coming November the American people go out and vote and the Democrats take control of the Congress I wont be the happiest guy in the world but I’ll give them a chance. And if when 2008 comes along and a Democrat wins the White House I’d give them a chance also. I know for a fact the same can not be said about the other side.
