What's up everyone and welcome to another quick McReview here on the DOI. This will be a quick one, as time is an issue, so
away we go:
NWS
1/27
Brick, NJ
Refs: Dillon, Anderson & Edwards
Ring Announcer: Dapper Joe Panzarino
Attendance: 400+ (Sold Out)
Equalizer was introduced to the crowd. He said a few words about his long time friend, Bam Bam Bigelow. Dapper & Equalizer
started a "BAM BAM" chant which the crowd picked up on. After this, the National Anthem was played and another carnival night
of NWS action began.
AC Kewl d. Antonio Malave & The Great Garofalo
Out of the three wrestlers in this match, only one looked to have any type of training and that was Malave, who really is
Nicky Oceans under the mask. No clue if The Great Garofalo is a tribute to Jeananne Garofalo's "Mystery Men" superhero
character. I'm guessing Kewl & Garofalo sold a butt load of tickets, as some sections of the crowd were hot only during this
match. Kewl, who I'm guessing sold the most tickets, won the match after an "Uncle-Slam".
This match was uninspiring, but very profitable.
Slayer/Resin vs Cameron Shaft/Steve Zapf went to a double countout
PREMATCH: Gino Moore, the ever-loved commissioner in NWS, did some mic work with Rocco Dorsey/Bison Bravado/Danny Demanto to
set up the main event. Fines were threatened and all that good stuff, and the heels went to the back.
This match was of the brawling variety. Steve Zapf has improved a bit since his tremendous showing at the 2005 J-Cup. Shaft
should get ring gear, as after the show he was wearing what he wore in the ring. Slayer has a good little gimmick that always
works and he does a good job with it. Resin doesn't look to have the most in-ring training, but at least he has a gimmick
that covers it up a bit.
This match was mostly alot of brawling, punching and kicking. Zapf would accidentally clothesline his partner in this
match. Both teams would make their way outside, where they brawled, as the ref counted 10. Unfortunately for Brick, NJ fans,
the true question of who is the better tag team, Slayer/Resin or Shaft/Zapf was never answered.
The TV Clown d. The Inbred Hillbillies w/Rocco Dorsey in a Handicapped Match via DQ
Just to make things clear, the TV Clown is not related to Doink The Clown. The TV Clown has some blood relations with Homie
The Clown & Bozo the Clown. I also believe The TV Clown is a distant relative of Carmine Sabia The Failed Promoter Clown.
However, it should be clear that the TV Clown and Doink are not brothers as one would assume. I just figured I'd shine a RAY
of light on that one.
This was a long back and forth match. The Clown was over with the NWS audience. This match wasn't particularly good, but it
did its job with the crowd. After 10 minutes, Bison Bravado & Danny Demanto ran out to attack the poor Clown. This gave The
TV Clown the DQ victory.
After the heel beatdown on the Clown, Jim Neidhart & The Rogue (Aka Billy Reil) made the save. Gino Moore chimed in his 2
cents and more heat was put on for the night's main event. Simple promo, good results, although I could go without the back-
to-back unclean finishes.
INTERMISSION
For the second night in the row, Eric Simms salivated while Jim Neidhart signed autographs.
Nicky Oceans & Corvis Fear d. Nicky Benz & Shane Taylor (1/2 of NWS Tag Champs)
Benz replaced Ace Darling, as Darling was at ECWA. However, Benz wasn't awarded Darling's half of the NWS Tag Titles.
Before the match, there was tons of mic work, with Benz getting the crowd riled up with his lame jokes and over-use of the
word "hiney".
This was an ok match that did a good job of getting the crowd into it. There were points were Oceans looked emotionless while
his partner was getting the shit kicked out of him, but maybe he was tired since he had to wrestle twice on this. The
matches on the show did a good job playing to the audience, but it felt like every match had the same formula. Oceans rolled
up Benz right near the ropes for the three count, which looked silly, because Benz could've yawned and reach the ropes to
break up the count. Crowd didn't seem to care though.
POSTMATCH: Benz & Taylor went out on a full blown assault on Oceans & Fear. This led to NWS Champion, The Dark Patriot,
formerly Chemical Ali, running out to make the save. Ali challenged Benz to a match on 3/3 and all was right in the NWS
world.
JD Smooth d. Corrupted Youth
Smooth does a good job connecting with NWS crowds, but would be better off with real ring gear. Youth has a nice look for
himself, but needs more matches under his belt. Smooth hit a big legdrop in this match but when he went for another, he
misse. However, Smooth was able to win the match after a splash for the 3 count.
Not much to say here, as this was a throw-away match on the show.
MATCH OF THE NIGHT
MAIN EVENT
Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart & The Rogue Billy Reil d. Bison Bravado & Danny Demanto w/Rocco Dorsey
This was a good match to close the show, as it was a nice old school match that the crowd ate up. The only thing that looked
questionable in this match was the Rogue japanese armdragging Danny Demanto. If the smaller Rogue could throw Danny around so
easy, it doesn't look as impressive when Neidhart does it. However, the match told a good story of good vs evil, as the
circus was back in town, making all the youngins' happy. The finish of the match saw Demanto become victim of the "Hart
Attack", which is probably something I'll type up again about Demanto if he keeps shocking his body at Chinese Buffets.
Good way to close the show, with fans leaving the building knowing that evil was thwarted in NWS land for another day.
Final McWord
How NWS took a 6 match show and dragged it for 3 hours is beyond me. NWS is like the circus, and that's not a negative
comment, as there are so many different ways to make dollars and NWS makes sure to explore every route. That's probably why
you see Eric Simms at alot of NWS shows too!
This show was great for its crowd, although I enjoyed Friday's show better than this one. It seemed like alot of the matches
followed the same formula tonight, and nothing really stood out except for the main event which the crowd loved because of
Neidhart.
OVerall
Another fun night for the NWS crew.
