Ultimate Championship Wrestling
April 27, 2001
From the Elks Lodge in Queens, NY
This is UCW's third show, and happens to be the third UCW tape I'm reviewing.
Show starts off with UCW's opening. The opening is similiar to ECW's opening, meaning that "extreme" moves are highlighted.
The show opens up with UCW Owner and wrestler, "Hardcore" Jac Sabboth coming to the ring. He talks about how the date changed, as the original show was supposed to happen in Deer Park. He said they moved the show to the Elks Lodge, because the UCW fans wanted it in the Elks. Jac says a few people won't be on the show tonight, because they moved the show date, when they changed the venue. Jac says that Low Ki won't be there. He also says that The Boogie Knights won't be there. Jac says with all these changes, he has "no fucking idea what's going to happen tonight," and he's "go have a beer and watch what happens." Well that sounds like a good promoter to me lol. As Jac is about to leave the ring, The New Dymanite Kid runs out. The New Dynamite Kid is a USA Pro Wrestler and is wearing a USA Pro shirt. NDK says he wants a match tonight. Jac says let's go to the back and find you an opponent for tonight. NDK leaves pissed and wanting a match.
The Boogie Knights then come out. This is after Jac said they wouldn't be on the show. The BK cut a heel promo degrading UCW. BK says no one can beat us. Drake threatens to pee in the UCW ring. Doring and Roadkill come out and beat up The Boogie Knights.
Rage of Pain d. The Shadow w/Tuff Tommy
Boogie Knights are the announcers for the show. The Boogie Knights announce that they want
to wrestle Doring/Roadkill at thenext UCW show in May.
Rage of Pain looked really good here. He had a Rob Van Damesque offense, and even opened the
match with a big ass plancha. Rage did alot of things fast, and hit alot of high impact offense,
even a "miss"le dropkick. Rage hits a huge spinning tombstone, and follows it up with a
frogsplash for the 1-2-3. Match was more or less of a squash and showcased Rage's abilities.
Matt Striker and Low Ryda went to a draw
Striker was playing ultimate babyface and was trying to get Low Ryda to shake his hand the
whole entire match. Boogie Knights I gotta say, were really great on commentary. As Ryda and
Striker were playing to the crowd, and didn't do things to win right away, The BK mentioned how
both wrestlers were playing to aura of the elks. If you buy the tape and hear them talk, you
will see what I mean. This match was pretty good, and if it happened today, I can only imagine
how much better it would be, because both guys have developed into fine wrestlers.
Low Ryda hit his dropkick flip to Strikers face and followed it up with a bronco buster in
this match, which illicited "XPAC SUCKS" chants. Striker hits the overdrive around the 10 minute
mark. As the ref goes to count the pinfall, the bell rings at 3. The camera cuts to Danny
Demanto who rang the bell. The announcer decalares the match a time limit draw. Striker and
Low Ryda shake hands, to the Boogie Knights disapproval. Good wrestling match.
Cut to a Chris Divine promo, which sets up the next match.
Chris Divine d. Abunai
Pretty decent match here. Abunai's offense was all over the place and he hit various lucha
moves on Divine. Divine hit a large aresnal of suplexes on Abunai. Divine picks up the big
win with a huge spinning spinebuster.
POSTMATCH: Divine continues the attack on Abunai and tries taking off his mask. The Amazing
Red makes the save.
Frankie Starz and Brian XL went to a no contest
This was Brian XL's UCW debut. Not even a minute into the match, Prince Nana interferes
and chair shots the shit of Frankie Starz. He throws Frankie Starz out of the ring. XL is
pissed that Nana ruined his debut match, so XL and Nana brawl, with Nana getting the
better of XL. Nana beats up XL. He gets the mic and calls out Jac for a real match here tonight.
This turns into...
Tom Marquez d. Prince Nana
Short match. Nana has gotten alot better since this match.
Match was more of a brawl, with both guys getting in big man move offense.
Marquez wins with a sloppy moonsault
that barely makes contact on Nana.
Stormin Norman d. Guillotine LeGrande
This was a hard fought wrestling match. The wrestling was pretty solid here. Norman picks up
the win with a victory roll out of no where. Finish just happened leaving you wanting more,
because the match was rolling along.
For the North East Championship
(c) Joel Maximo and The Amazing Red wrestled to a no contest
This match is alot better now, then it was when it happened here. That's not to say that
this match wasn't great though. Excellent wrestling with big time spots mixed in here. Some
things got out of control because these guys were moving like little kids in a candy store
in a 1 minute all you can eat shopping spree. Finish sees Chris Divine interfere, when Joel
Maximo is on the outside. Divine hits a huge brain buster and a big time powerbomb on Red.
Abunai comes out to make the save, and to pay back Red for saving him before. Well that's what
looked like was going to happen. Abunai turns on Red and lays him out and both Abunai and
Divine pummel 2/3 of the SAT. Mikey Whipwreck comes out to make the save. Xavier then joins
the fracas and pummels Xavier, and hits
Mikey with a PERFECT HOLY SHIT 450 splash from the top rope
through a table. Wow.
Another thing that should be mentioned was how good the Boogie Knights were on commentary
during this match. They are feuding with the SAT, but didn't allow their bias to show through
their commentary and put the wrestlers over well. Cough Coach.
Jac Sabboth comes out. He talks about the upcoming UCW show. The New Dynamite Kid comes out and DEMANDS his match right now. Jac says he's gonna go get an opponent. Instead he grabs a chair, and pops NDK's spine with it. This sets up...
Hardcore Jac Sabboth d. The New Dynamite Kid
Wow. This wasn't much of a match, as it was a beating for NDK. After Jac hit NDK with a chair,
the UCW security guards grab NDK. They put NDK on top of two stacked tables. Two of the security
guards were Arson and Striker, which was odd, because Striker wrestled a match on the show.
While NDK is on top of these two tables, Jac Sabboth makes his way upstairs and is standing
on the balcony of the Elks Lodge. Jac, finding his inner Sabu, JUMPS FROM THE TOP OF THE
BALCONY and puts NDK through a table for the pinfall. Holy shit, I had to rewind this a few
times. After rewatching it, I got mad respect for NDK for taking this because:
-Jac lands KNEES first on NDK's sternum.
- Jac has a perverse smile on his face as he jumps
- This was a huge UCW spot, that differentiated UCW from USA Pro.
Just an incredible fucking move, as the match was really nothing, definitely worth seeing.
Mike Kruel w/G-Street Mafia Members (Bobby and Extacy) d. Mike Quackenbush
Good match here, that highlighted Kruels mat offense and Quackenbushes fast offense.
Match started off with alot of ground wrestling, until Quack busted out his planchas and dives.
True to his style, Kruel worked the left arm the whole match, and picked up the win with
(a little help w/the G-Street Mafia) with an armbar that hyperextended Quack's elbow. Great
job by both guys.
POSTMATCH: Kruel and Extacy make their way to the back as Bobby G mocks Quack. Quack gets
Bobby G, snapmares him and dropkicks him to the back. Eh, not the best mot to get your
heat back after losing.
Damian Dragon promo talking about teaming with Boogalou for 3 years. Decent promo.
Boogalou w/Little Pyscho d. Damian Dragon
This match was based off Boogalou attacking Damian Dragon at the last UCW show. These guys used
to be the Natural Born Sinners and were a dominating tag team. Boogalou comes to the ring with
an intimidating chain saw. Boogie Knights do a great job hyping up this match in the commentary
booth. Match starts off with an all out brawl, but turns into a wrestling match after
the inital punching and kicking. Boogalou showed off his amateur background alot in this match.
Dragon went for a huge plancha in this match and looked like he got a little piece of Boogalou,
but Boogalou wasn't affected and got up and suplexed the shit out of Dragon on the floor.
That's why they call it a high risk move lol. Boogalou sets up a table in the corner, and
Boogalou tazzplexes Dragon through 1/4 of the table, as 3/4 of the table was still in tact.
Dragon as able to regain his composure as Boogaloue played to the crowd. Dragon hit a fisherman
suplex, but the ref was distracted by Pyscho on the outside as Dragon had him pinned. Boogalou
gets up as Dragon goes to complain, and Boogalou wins the match with a Dirty Sanchez Suplex.
POSTMATCH: Boogalou suplexes Dragon through the rest of the table. Low Ryda comes out, and looks
like he's going to save Damian Dragon. Instead, Low Ryda hits his flip dropkick. Striker then
comes out and tries to make the save, but instead is laid out by Boogalou and Low Ryda. Pretty
cool, even though they did the fake save, double team already on this show.
Jac Sabboth makes his way to the ring and Damian Dragon is pissed off and vents. Dragon gets the mic and talks to Jac. Dragon puts over the aura of the elks lodge. Dragon said he never got a shot to show off his talent in wrestling, but said Jac Sabboth did. Dragon puts over Sabboth for giving him a break. Dragon must've watched a Shane Douglas promo before this, cause he drops the f-bomb at least 20 times.
Danny Doring/Roadkill d. Homicide/Angel from Da Baldies and Da Hit Squad
Great teag match. These guys went nuts on each other, and everyone was brawling right away.
There was no one waiting for a tag, it was just a huge scramble of fighting. No one held
anything back. All teams looked impressive here, even the unnatural pairing of Homicide/Angel.
Roadkill hits a humongous splash from 15 feet away on Angel for the win. Roadkill looked
really impressive.
POSTMATCH: Homicide is mad that his partner got pinned. They celebrate, but Angel turns. You
can see the turn coming. Every match seemed to have someone turning at the end of it. DHS
make the save and surprisingly don't turn on Homicide.
Mikey Whipwreck and Red come out. Mikey says Commissioner Slash couldn't be here. Basically Mikey sets up himself and Red against Xavier and Devine. The stipulation is Joel Maximo, who was injured before, would let Mikey/Red put up his North Eastern Title up for grabs in this match and Xavier would put up his UCW Title on the line in this.
For the UCW Heavyweight and UCW NorthEast Championship
The Amazing Red/Mikey Whipwreck d. Xavier and Devine
Red becomes UCW Heavyweight Champion
Interesting blend of styles here. Red hit a sick corkscrew from the top rope to the floor
on his opponents. Red looked really good here. Red then flipped into the crowd taking out Devine.
Mikey meanwhile, set up a table on the guardrails. Xavier at one point in the match, went for
the People's elbow, but missed. The wrestling between Red and Xavier was really good. UCW really
showcased the evolution of Red, from a normal indy wrestler looking to make a mark, to a big
time superstar. Ditto 1/2 the talent in UCW. Lots of holy shit spots in this match. Mikey
hits the Whipper Snapper on Xavier. He throws Red on top of Xavier, and lays on top of the pile.
Red is crowned the UCW Heavyweight Champion!
POSTMATCH: Devine and Xavier get into a shoving match. The UCW faces come out to celebrate Red's
championship win, even getting carried around the ring by Mikey. Crowd loved this and got a
huge Red chant. The Boogie Knights question Reds title win since he wasn't the legal man
when the pin happened. Mikey put over Red huge here and was a true pro in this match.
Promotime
Xavier cuts a promo on Mikey Whipwreck for costing him his UCW Title. UCW always did a good job
of bringing out a personality in Xavier. Xavier vows to win the UCW Title back.
Promo with Joel and Red who boast about their titles.
Final McWord
Pretty good show here. Lots of good matches here and the Jac putting NDK through a table was
fucking nuts. UCW was pretty unique and it was cool seeing different guys getting highlighted.
I thought the Kruel/Quack match was the best wrestling match on this show. The one thing that
hampered the show was all the turns after every match. I mean 3 turns is alot.
Overall, worth checking out for the huge balcony spot and good matches that were all over the show. I still think the June 01 show was the best one, but this is the second best one I've seen.
