LXW 11/15 McTape Review

What up everyone and welcome to a special McTape Review. Today I got the LXW show from 11/15 from Queens, NY. I reviewed this show live, but recieved a tape for a tape review. Since I already ran down the matches and what I thought before, here are my tape thoughts, with the show review, and more. I hope you enjoy it.

Tape opens with one of those warnings you see when you get a WWF PPV on your illegal box. Cool shit, never saw an indy tape do that before.

LXW has a "Don't do this at home" warning. Fuck you Lionel Tate!

Show opens up with a promo of Smoke Dawg trying to get in the building. He's not on the paper/list to get in, according to the security guard. He takes the list to double check that and after double checking, wacks security with it. Smoke says someone is gonna get Smoked out tonite. (Yes there is a joke there lol)

Cloudy gets talked to by American Wildchild. Cloudy is in his Special K garb and is doing the drugged out gimmick. Wildchild says to be ready. Cloudy is just dancing. Camera pans out with Illegal substances not permitted in the building sign. Funny shit.

We then go to AMIL, who are with Chi Chi Cruz. Cruz recruits them for later on, in a 6 man tag against Los Lunatics. Cruz gives them money to tag with them.

We go to Shocker promo, which is done in Spanish. Pretty much talked about winning the LXW title.

The ring announcer was Kingdom James, who was a dead ringer for that black guy from Boston Public.

We come to the announcers for the night who are Larry Rivera and Kliss Kloss. Larry is the heel announcer and Kliss is the face. Both were really good tonight. They were really on and knew their moves, and put over the matches instead of themselves, which is the problem with some indy announcers. Titantrons. Larry was hilarious as the stereotypical rudos announcer and Kliss did a great job carrying the match and making the show more enjoyable. Here are a few quotes they had, that I liked and didn't like.

After the Sharkboy vs Zoker match...
Larry said there was no winner in this match and neither deserved to win. I think Larry should've said there were no losers in this match and neither deserved to lose, as it was a really great match.

During The Solutions entrance w/John Shane...
In a classic rudos voice, Rivera called him The Great John Shane. Just the way he said it was hilarious, you gotta hear it. Kliss then just said he should be called John Shady. All I could think about was John Shane dressed up as Eminem and picturing him in Eminem videos.

During The Supreme vs Spider match...
Kliss said, "LOOK AT ALL THIS ACTION! PINCH ME I CANT BELIEVE IT PINCH ME!!!" Then as Larry said "OK I will pinch you mang," Kliss started shreiking, "NO DONT PINCH ME, DONT DONT!" Great interaction between those guys.

There were also a few cool promos during the show. Here they are:

The Lunatics approach Socal superstar, TARO. Boogalou asks TARO, "Are you on the juice?" For those who don't know, TARO looks like Johnny Ova with a mask. TARO turns around with a Gatorade and says, "YEA I'm on the Juice!" TARO talks about being all pumped up. He offers Boogalou some juice, and Boogalou is like, "Nah I'll have a beer." Man up! Taro continues to talk some more gibberish. Guapo ends the segment on a funny note with, "Damn, I thought we were The Lunatics."

Supreme talks trash on Vic Grimes about the Suicidal Title. Intense stuff.

The rest of the tape has all the matches. My review is included at the end of the show. I'd just like to say that this tape was in great quality. The camera shots changed multiple times. The last time I saw a tape look so professional was the last RF tape I saw. LXW has a great handle on the production end. From Titan trons to just crystal clear picture and sound, this tape was like watching anything you'd see on a Monday or Thursday night, but just had better wrestling than what you'd see on those nights. (With the exception of HBK! lol)

The following is the review, at the end of the review, I will have my Final McWord of the tape and info on how to cop it.

LXW 11/15 Results/Review

Hey hey hey, what up everyone and welcome to the LXW McReview. Today, I went to LXW, which took place at Club Amazura, in Jamaica, Queens. Jamaica isn't the best area in the world, but it was literally one block away from the LIRR and the subway, so you didn't have to walk through the hood too much to get there. The only thing that sucks is all the cops that are around, so it was hard drinkin in public while I waited for the troops to arrive, but I was able to manage by putting a bottle in my coat arm, so you couldn't see it. Wow, I just went off on a whole different tangent. Onto the LXW review.

PRESHOW: Hopped on the Long Island Rail Road, and went straight for the bathroom with a 6 pack of corona and one lemon. For those not in NY, those cheap motherfuckers at the MTA decided to raise fares, so what usually was a $2 ride, has turned into a $10 wallet rape job. So since I'm the heel of the DOI, I figured why not heel out the LIRR? So I go into the bathroom with my beer and lemon, and sit on the sink part, and wait 20 minutes until the train gets to Jamaica. During this time, I was able to get 5 Coronas knocked back, and not get any lemon on my shirt, which is a good thing. A few people knocked on the door, but a few grunt sounds and saying to myself, for the people who were knocking to hear, "Fuck I'm never eating Taco Bell again", got these people to hold their shit in- literally.

After finishing the last beer in the 6 pack, I catch up with Viper and the rest of the crew, which was large. Shoutouts to everyone: Louie, Bi-San from Ja-Pan, Travis Blackchurch, Danny Yamz, Eric, Manslaughter, Motivator, and the mini, Mike Zevon. After picking up a 22, it was time to party like Jake The Snake at LXW.

Lucha Xtreme Wrestling
Jamaica, NY
Attendance: 185-215

Show starts off with this black dude who looks exactly like the black principal from Boston Public. He asks the crowd to get rowdy for tonight. He had no idea he’d get just that, as the crowd was rowdy the whole show.

Zokre d. Sharkboy
Every match was at least 15 minutes long. At points, this match certainly felt it. The problem with this match, and some of the other luchador matches was that there was no clean cut Technicos or Rudos. (Faces/Heels) You didn’t know who to cheer or boo, so the section I was in decided to boo everyone lol. This match was the opposite, however, as Sharkboy got a good face pop, due to being recoginized from TV. Zokre also had good fan interaction, so I guess both were faces. This match was decent, and featured the first of many arm drags of the night. Sharkboy hit a nice missile dropkick during this match. Hopefully, the Motivator was taking notes on how Sharkboy did it with ease. At one point in the match, Sharkboy had Zokre in the corner, and punched him 10 times in the head, with the crowd gleefully counting in spanish, in unison. Zokre eventually was able to rebound, and after a lionsault, he picked up the pinfall victory.

The Solution w/The Sure Thing John Shane and Spider d. Outcast Killahz
PREMATCH: John Shane cut a promo telling Spider to watch the Solution and learn from them.

This match was alright. Solution looked solid here, but I’ve seen them look better against better opponents. Funny spot of the match was when Papadon went for his world famous suicide dive, but missed and hit his own partner Havok. Omen Ortega hit a nice flip, and along with his partner, was able to get off some nice submission moves. Spider, the whole match was pissed off that he was Solution’s bitch. He grabbed the ring bell away from Papadon, when Papadon went to go hit Omen. The ref was distracted by John Shane. Spider was like fuck The Solution, and went to go hit Havok with the bell. Havok ducked and Spider laid out Omen. Spider was upset, and left the ring. A problem solver later, and this match was finished.
POSTMATCH: John Shane gets the mic again and goes off on Spider. He says, “You want to play with the big boys?” Note to Shane: Dubbya C Dubbya is where da big boys play. Just ask Dusty Rhodes. Anyway, Shane says he has a match for Spider tonight, and this turns into…

Supreme d. Spider
Supreme who? A good portion of the crowd, I’d say ¼ of the crowd was chanting LOUIE! LOUIE! LOUIE! and more pro Low Life Louis Ramos chants. Supreme maybe king of the west, but the king of the east was sitting in the crowd enjoying the show, and the loyal NY indy fans tried to provoke a fight between Louie and Supreme, knowing that a match of this proportions would be huge and a huge treat. Solution remained on the outside for this match. At one point, Supreme powerbombed Spider over the top rope and into the Solution, but Solution caught him, and just dumped Spider down hard. Spider got back into the ring, only to take another powerbomb from Supreme, this time from the inside of the ring, to the outside of the ring through a table. This was enough to gain victory for Supreme.

Like I said before, LXW has these cool titan tron things. We cut to a promo with Smoke Dawg. The security guard says Smoke is not on the show. Smoke asks to see the list. He takes the clipboard from the guard and wails the guard with it, and goes in the building. This flowed into Smoke Dawg’s match later on too. Good promo.

In a semifinal for the LXW Trios Title
Ultra Mantis/Mr Zero/Gran Akuna d. Jigsaw/Horeschak/Hellowicked
Your referee in this contest was Chikara’s own, and a guy who can take a good joke, Ref Bryce.
I’ve seen this match in 6 other feds it seems. Lots of toryumon style wrestling in this one. Lots of arm drags and unique submissions. The crowd wasn’t really feeling this match, but this was LXW’s second show, and not all the characters are established yet. A dangerous move almost turned into a career shortner, as Akuna went to powerbomb Jigsaw from the top rope into the ring. Akuna went up, but Jigsaw fell to the floor and Akuna fell to the side of the ring. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Both got into the ring, and Akuna was able to pin Jigsaw for the win. Ok match.

In a Suicidal Title First Round match:
Vic Grimes d. Grim Reefer
Probably the best match on the show, if it wasn’t for the main event. These guys killed each other for 20 minutes, and wrestled one of the best hardcore matches I’ve ever seen. There was no blood or graitutious violence, it was just two guys beating the shit out of each other, and building up the importance of the weapons and pain involved. Reefer and Grimes kept teasing and teasing a table and a ladder spot, so when it finally happened, the crowd went fucking nuts. Reefer was able to hit a 540 from the top to floor where Grimes took it hard. Grimes was able to hit a huge legdrop on a chair. Reefer took a beating in this one, from getting slammed with a ladder, to eating table, which led to Grimes’s victory. Really good match and worth getting on tape.

Intermission- Nothing was going to top that last match, so good idea to take an intermission here. Picked up a few more beers, and unfortunately saw Mike Zevon leave due to a family thing. Trust me, after acting like an animal in Motivators apt, I’m awaiting the next time booze and a wrestling show comes my way, with Mike Zevon on my left hand side lol.

Mexicos Most Wanted (Halloween/Damien 666) d. Aerial Express (Scorpio Sky/Quicksilver)
Mexico’s most wanted were very appreciated by the crowd. The second the wrestlers from mexico got to the ring, the crowd quieted down and sat in respect for these superior athletes. This was a good and entertaining match. Halloween must’ve watched his best of X-Pac tapes, because he was crotch chopping like had the clap or something. Really great tag team combinations in this match. Finish saw Damien spin Scorpio Sky round and round, right into a Halloween face first drop kick, for the pinfall victory. I hope Mexico’s Most Wanted return to LXW, as these guys were a great tandem and it was great watching these big time guys work in front of an indy audience.

Go to another promo on the LXWTron, this time with Cloudy and The American Wild Child. They discuss their upcoming match or not. I couldn’t tell, since they were speaking in Spanish.

Hardcore Homo Angel d. Scorpio Jr.
This match was an all out brawl. Before the match, Homo cut a promo about being a tough son of a bitch and wanting to advance in the ranks of LXW. For those who don’t know, Homo looks like Bobby Trendy, from Anna Nicole. Finish saw Hardcore Homo ddt Scorpio for the pinfall. The ref counted three, even though Scorpio’s feet were on the ropes.

Phoenix Star/Taro d. American Wild Child/Cloudy
This match was pretty interesting, as these guys had a clash of styles. Taro does a Crash Holly gimmick, as he was announced as 7’4 and 400 pounds. Phoenix Star’s mask looked like a cross of Black Tiger and Rey Misterios. Taro was able to hurranacarrana Cloudy from the top rope for the pinfall victory. Nothing special here, but then again, nothing offensive.

POSTMATCH: Smoke Dawg runs out. He beats the crap out of the winners. He complains that he still doesn’t have a match booked for tonight and that he had to get in here with a problem. All of a sudden out comes Jimmy James’s God, Mike Tobin. Tobin gets the mic and says the reason you weren’t booked, is because you suck. Burn. This takes us to…

Smoke Dawg d. Mike Tobin
Good match here. Call me biased, but Mike Tobin looked like a million bucks in this match. I know Smoke Dawg is a big LXW guy, but Tobin looked like the star in this match, with his wrestling ability. This was a back and forth match. Tobin had lots of offense in this match, and I’m enjoying watching Tobin’s single career grow and grow all over the indies. Give him a year, and I bet he’s one of the most booked guys winning matches all over the place. The guy has all the right tools, and is a good guy in and out of the ring. Unfortunately for Tobin, that meant shit in this match, and Smoke Dawg was able to cease victory, with a double underhook leg drop flip pin. Yea, you should’ve seen it live, it was a nice move.

We cut to a promo with Chi Chi and AMIL. Chi Chi recruits AMIL for an upcoming Trios match.

Los Lunatics (Boogalou/Eddie Guapo/Low Ryda) d Chi Chi Cruz/AMIL (Kash and Kaos)
The action was hot when it was going on. This match had a story in it as well, as Chi Chi was interested in a dame sitting in the front row. This dame was sitting in the front row the whole show and was cheering for all the wrestlers, and even using dirty words like stinks and boo. Chi Chi saw this girl, and started throwing game to her. While this was going on, Lunatics and Amil were having a good match in the ring. There was a great sequence with all the wrestlers doing flips and planchas from the ring onto the floor. Eventually, Chi Chi says fuck this match, and leaves with this girl. This girls name was Rafaela Aguilera, who had a striking resemblance to former SSCW Womens’ Champion, Ariel. Chi Chi left with Ari.. Rafalea and abandoned the match. Lunatics were able to capitalize on the 3 vs 2 situation and Boogalou pinned Kash for the pinfall. Match was good, but was more to progress a storyline than to have wrestling.
POSTMATCH: Lunatics triple tream Amil and throw them a beating.

***THE MAIN EVENT***
CMLL Feud carries over to NY!
Semifinal match in the tournament to crown a first ever LXW World Heavyweight Champion
Shocker d. Ultimo Guerrero
WOW. Match of the night. Lots of people hate on lucha libre for being too fast and all about spots, but to them, I say pick up a copy of this tape and watch this match. This match wasn’t a MOTY contender, (but could’ve been if it was 10 + minutes longer) but this match was definitely MATCH OF THE NIGHT! Lots of fast sequences and submission holds. Guerrero worked Shockers left arm for most of the match, and came up with innovative offense to weaken Shockers arm. The crowd was pro Shocker, despite Shocker being a rudos 3000 miles away. I’m talking huge Shocker support, as the crowd was going nuts for Shocker and chanting his name. Down in Mexico, Shocker is like The Rock, as he makes movies, is a major champion and carries a promotion on his back. This was just a pure wrestling match, and was the reason why I came to this show. Just a great back and forth battle. These guys told hell of a story in 15 minutes. Shocker was able to overcome and defeat his long-term nemesis, after leg scissor roll through for the pinfall. Mucho impresso.

POSTMATCH: Shocker signed autographs for the fans.

Final McWord
This was LXW’s second show. There were some things that can be worked on, such as determining who the crowd should be cheering for. They also have the XTREME in their name, and while the Reefer/Grimes match did a 5 star job of telling a story, there was nothing HOLY SHIT with blood and shit spewing all over the place. Maybe that will be saved if Louie ever debuts and takes on Supreme? I guess you also gotta take under consideration that the commission sucks cock. Overall, I thought the show was good, and enjoyed myself. LXW is doing what no other promotion is doing right now, and that is offering CMLL talent on a regular basis at an indy show. Shocker was over huge, and it was confirmed by LXW management that Shocker will be a main piece in LXW’s future/expansion. If LXW can afford early attendance woes, I think it will pay off in the end, as these guys truly have a unique product.
LXW returns sometime in January. No date was confirmed, but once it’s announced, we’ll let you know.

I’d urge anyone to check out LXW, and watch these guys, who only wrestle for LXW in the US, put out great matches. I’m always up for being exposed to new things, and I think any wrestling fan looking for a real alternative, need not look no further.

Final McWord of the Tape
Get it. LXW is the only company in the US today doing what they are doing with the roster they have. The tape is 3 hours long and has great wrestling. The announcers make the tape more enjoyable. LXW is an alternative to not only the WWE but to every other indy today. I think most people will get into it. I actually enjoyed the tape better than the show live, as the announcers add alot to the show, as well as the promos. This is not to discredit the live show, as there is nothing like being at a show live, but if you were there live, it's still worth rewatching again for extras.

Anyone looking to purchase this tape can contact:
Slash@lxwrestling.com
The cost of the tape is $20.
You can also check out more about LXW and their big show in Miami on February 29th 2004, by going to http://www.lxwrestling.com and by checking the DOI Press Release section for all the info you need.
