Frank Goodman Shoot Interview
This was conducted in Early 2002.
Presented by http://www.icwzone.com
Your interviewers are Danny Demanto, El Shoes and "Hardcore" Jac Sabboth.
First off, the way Frank is sitting with his shorts rolling up his legs, is not appealing to any heterosexual male, so for all you homophobes out there, I'd recommend blacking out the bottom half of your TV's before watching this.
Frank talks about how he got into wrestling, how he broke into wrestling and answers some easy introductory questions about breaking in. After the elementary questions that are a standard for every interview, Frank gets into some juicy shit.
Frank talks about the past and says how easy it was to draw back then, and talks about how hard it is today.
Frank then starts telling some funny stories about the Metal Maniac. He says that The Metal Maniac tried robbing his house. He talks about The Metal Maniac getting arrested. He then talks about kicking the shit out The Metal Maniac (Jeff Miller). Funny stuff here and very interesting.
Frank talks about being used and being burnt for money early on. He says he learnt from that and will never ever forget it. He said it was a big lesson.
Frank then talks about using money marks. He says if he sees a money mark, he will take advantage of that. He says that if someone is willing to spend their money and give their money to Frank, he will use it. He says he's a business man and money comes first.
When Frank is asked about Duke Snyder, he starts off by saying "I wish I was dead." He calls him the "The worst wrestler I ever saw." More good stuff here.
During the whole interview, there was alot of friendly banter between Goodman and his interviewers. There must've been something happening in the background as Goodman was asking "what's going on back there?"
Frank says the toughest wrestlers he's ever known were the "Masked Superstar" aka Ax of Demolition. He also says that "The Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez was one tough son of a gun.
Halfway through the interview, Franks son, Willy Goodman comes in. For anyone who knows Frank, Frank is a family man first, wrestling promoter second. Frank shows his father side with Willy, and you can see it wasn't forced for the camera.
Frank then talks about the Elks Lodge. He said that The Elks Lodge has no feel to it. He says everyone says it's this great building, but he just don't feel it. Frank says the building smells like pig urine. Can't argue there. This interview was conducted in early 2002, so I wonder if Goodman has changed his mind about the Elks.
Frank talks about the Boogie Knights, and how they sold 100 tickets to work their first USA Pro show. Coincedently, he says that the Boogie Knights won the tag titles in their first match.
Goodman starts making fun of the questions that Demanto are asking three quarters in this interview. He then berates Danny for asking about Striker, when he asked Danny to ask him anything. Just more funny banter between Goodman and The Wrestling Universe staff.
Frank starts talking about Mr Puerto Rico, and how he is the best ass kisser in the business.
Says that he's a nice man and that Mr Puerto Rico knows how to treat a promoter correctly.
He then says Mr Puerto Rico left a 45 minute message on his
answer machine boasting about how good he is. He then talks about
Mr. Puerto Rico's shoot, where Mr. Puerto
Rico calls Frank an asshole. Frank calls Mr. Puerto Rico a liar.
McNote: Look for the Ralph Soto aka Mr. Puerto Rico Shoot Interview McTape Review on the
DOI site in the upcoming days!
Frank says "he has no sympathy for anyone who dies from using drugs." Says drugs are a stupid choice and says drug use isn't a disease. Talks about Missy Hyatt passing out on the beach from using pain killer drugs. Says Missy was crazy and screaming, one minute, then 2 minutes later passed out.
Frank says that Chris Candido/Tammy Sytch have never no-showed him. He puts Candido over as a great wrestler.
He then starts playing with a plastic saxophone for his son. It came out of nowhere. Just interesting.
Talks about Paul Heymen, and says he's a good guy and respects him. Talks about being the only promotion to have the ECW title defended on USA pro shows. Demanto praises Goodman, and Goodman tells Demanto to "sell your 10 tickets tubby." Frank says he never watched ECW, which was the 10th time he mentioned it. They could've called this tape "Frank Goodman- I never watched ECW".
Talks about UCW's low attendance and how he snuck through the window to watch it lol. Said Jac's first show was one of the best indy shows he's ever seen. Talks about UCW breathing life into Xavier.
Puts Low Ki over as one of the best he's ever seen. Says Low Ki's only flaw is his weight, but he's able to overcome it. Calls Low Ki the best independent wrestler ever.
He then talks about the Roadwarriors getting a booking with him, then taking a
double booking and working for some stupid asshole, who he says is
Ricky O. Man Ricky O might really equal ratings lol.
He says he doesn't know who Ricky O is nor does he wishes to know him.
Does a funny Ricky O voice
impersonation. It actually sounded like him.
Talks about bad business that he had with Ricky O. Says Danny Demanto told him stuff about
Ricky O. Frank said that Ricky O lied about a bunch of things concerning The Road
Warriors. He tells
Ricky O to keep his mouth shut.
McNote: Since then, this whole situation was resolved amicably. Still worth watching though.
Puts over Wretch as a good announcer. Then he mentions that it's because he's his nephew. Personally, Dexter Weiner is 100 times better than Wretch.
Frank talks about how he beat up the New Dynamite Kid.
Talks about a conversation he had with Vince Russo. Talks about getting Jimmy Superfly Snuka and Tito Santana booked on Nitro. Talks about Honky Tonk Man lying in an incident with him. Says Honky was rejected by WCW. Calls The Iron Shiek a decripet piece of shit. Says Russo was asking him for ideas about using veterans in WCW. Says he pitched Bruno Sammurtino vs Larry Zybsco. Says Russo screwed him and Sammurtino over. Says WCW stole the Boogie Knights name from USA Pro. Really great stuff in here, and one of the best parts of the shoot interview.
Frank then says he was great friends with Iron Shiek. Goodman talks about a huge falling out that he had with him. Talks about Shiek needing money, and a failed eBay auction. Goodman says "FUCK YOU" to the Iron Shiek. Powerful shit.
Goodman says he hates Eric Simms. Says there is always a problem with Eric Simms. Goodman says he's an imbecile. Says Eric Simms is not in the business but just a lousy t-shirt salesman.
Goodman talks about Eric Rosen and calls him the biggest pigeon he knows.
Goodman calls out Demanto for doing some hanky panky on his couch.
Says he thought Red was 10 years old when he first saw him. Tells some funny jokes about Red's young appearance.
Talks about meeting Homicide for the first time. Talks about how they cursed each other out. Said he had no idea Homicide was a great wrestler. Talks about how they are on great terms now after the incident.
Frank then talks about The Masked Maniac. When he talks about the Masked Maniac, his face lights up like a kid during Christmas. Apparently, Frank likes him alot.
Talks about Big Dick Dudley being a legit tough guy.
Frank talks about a funny rib that happened to Roadkill. Talks about someone peeing in Roadkills sandwich and Roadkill eating it. Says the person who pulled the prank is a BAD man, and even Frank won't say his name in fear of having an altercation with the guy.
Talks about The Boogie Knights being a great team. Talks about how The Boogie Knights being loyal to USA Pro. Says he thinks if they ever got signed by the WWF, that he thinks The Boogie Knights would ask if they could still work USA Pro shows.
Says that Simon Diamond, Dawn Marie, Sandman, Little Guido and Balls Mahoney are all great people. He reiterates for the thousandth time that he never watched ECW, but is friends with alot of ECW talent.
He says that he thinks Ace Darling and Mike Quackenbush are a few wrestlers that never got the big break they deserved.
Talks about Danny Demanto kissing Jac Sabboth's ass for bookings. So that's how he got them... lol
Frank then talks about an interesting incident between Jac Sabboth and the Road Warriors. Very interesting. It's got alot of twists and turns and worth hearing.
Says the wrestling business is exposed. He says if he didn't need the money, he wouldn't even do this shoot interview. He says the fans know too much and he thinks that it's hurting the business. He blames Vince McMahon for it, because Vince saying that he presents entertainment when trying to save money over a New Jersey tax. You can make a strong case to that date as the beginning point of wrestling becoming more interesting behind the scenes then in the ring.
He says that he was mad when he heard Miss Michelle said she was a valet, because Missy Hyatt was her aunt. He says he can't take these managers trying to get into wrestling.
When asked about backyard wrestling, he said "We already talked about ICW." Great shit. He thinks backyard wrestling is horrible. He said backyard wrestlers should never get a break. Tell that to The Hardy Boyz or anyone else from Omega.
Closing off the interview, Frank says if you're a wrestler, stop emailing him looking for a
spot. He then gives out Randy's phone number if you want to know more.Funny shit here.
"Don't bother" is the message Frank gives out to anyone else looking to be a wrestling
promoter in NY. He says it's a tough job and not for everyone.
Frank cuts a funny promo to end the shoot bashing all the interviewers.
Final McWord
I wouldn't expect anything less from Frank Goodman. He held nothing back at all, and talked
from the heart and gave his viewpoint on any topic asked. Out of the whole lot, Danny
Demanto came off as the most knowledgable interviewer. The banter between Goodman and Demanto
is hilarious, and worth watching for that alone.
It was funny that at the end of some of his stories, Frank would say
"Right Jac?? Right?" to get confirmation on these stories.
There is alot of juice and good shit in this
shoot. While Frank Goodman might not be the biggest name ever to do a shoot interview, he
still gives you some funny shit and some stories that you wouldn't know unless you watched this.
Overall, I'd get it if you have some extra money laying around or if you're a big USA Pro Fan.
If you're not a fan of USA Pro Wrestling or of the NY area, you probably won't understand
some of the things he's talking about. However, you will get a few good stories about big
name people, if that's what you like. Either way, if you watch it, you will have a fun time.
