What's up everyone, and welcome to another McTape/DVD review, here on the DOI site. This time, I got to check out ROH's latest work, in the form of the "Straight Shootin'" series. I just finished watching the 2 Cold Scorpio shoot, and here are my thoughts and some things he gets into.
2 Cold Scorpio starts the shoot interview off by telling us he was self-trained. His friend used to wrestle, and 2 Cold Scorpio (2CS) checked it out. 2CS was hooked on wrestling, and started practicing himself. 2CS talked about how he trained himself. 2CS then says he refined his training and polished himself off in the New Japan Dojo.
2CS talks about his time in the New Japan Dojo, and discusses the differences between yesterdays Dojo, and today's Dojo.
2CS talks about wrestling in Mexico. He says who he liked and hated. He was a big fan of Benoit and Guerrero and enjoyed wrestling them. He didn't like Canek or Mil Mascaras. 2CS goes in depth here on Mil Mascaras, and how Mascaras would try to punk 2CS out.
2CS talked about Japan and how he got in there. This is the first time in the DVD that Vaders name is dropped. Vader is one of 2CS's good friends. Vader did alot for 2CS's career. 2CS credits Vader for getting him into Japan, WCW and WWF. 2CS is very grateful to Vader. Vader comes off looking like gold, after hearing it from 2CS.
2CS talks about his WCW career in depth. He talks about what matches he liked and didn't like.
2CS then talks about the Arn Anderson-Sid Vicious scissor stabbing incident. 2CS goes really in-depth here, and this is worth listening to for any wrestling fan. 2CS described the room as being full of blood. 2CS said that he's 5'11" and that the walls that were soaked with blood, were taller than him. Just imagining blood covering over 6 feet of wall space is insane. This is really good stuff here, and very intriguing.
2CS is asked about people he hates. The first person he's not a fan of is Ric Flair. 2CS talks about how Ric Flair was a big reason why 2CS was fired from WCW. It's funny, alot of people blame Flair for their dismissals from WCW, but after reading the Flair book, you can't see Flair doing anything like that. 2CS calls him a cocksucker and said he'd like to have sex with his daughter.
2CS then goes nuts on Marcus "Buff" Bagwell. I am talking fucking crazy here. 2CS openly challenges Buff to a fight in this shoot. He says he wants to beat the crap out of him. He calls him a cock sucker too, among other things. He talks about how Buff was afraid of black people and just a big bitch. Well I've heard that on other people's shoots before. 2SC really spends alot of time here just verbally raping Bagwell. Great stuff here.
2CS also hates Road Warrior Hawk. Even though Hawk is dead, 2CS never liked him. 2CS goes in full detail about their fight internationally. He talks about kicking Hawk's ass. He said he wanted to squash it with Hawk, but Hawk wouldn't allow it, because 2CS herbed him out. This is really great stuff here, that needs to be seen. 2CS doesn't leave anything out here. He does say he didn't want to rip up Hawk too bad, because Hawk can't defend himself on the issue. I still can't believe Hawk is dead.
2CS talks about his ECW career in full. He talks about his great matches and other matches. 2CS talks about how drug infested the ECW locker room was. This is more great stuff. 2CS says if the cops ever raided ECW, then there would be no one who didn't have drugs. 2CS says everyone was on drugs, from promoters, wrestlers, to ring crew and janitors. He says the locker room was knee deep in drugs. This is great because 2CS holds nothing back, but also awful as the dirty truth comes out here. 2SC does talk about all the positive stuff in ECW as well.
2CS was a big fan of Bill Watts. He said even though Watts is/was a bigot, Watts always looked out for 2CS, because Watts saw talent in 2CS. 2CS says Watts is one of his favorite bookers. He also enjoyed working for Paul Heyman.
2CS talks about the Nasty Boys, and how he would never take the pitstop from them. More funny stuff.
2CS talks about the Cactus Jack vs Vader match, where Cactus lost his ear. 2CS goes in full detail on what happened and what it was like being there live. 2CS talks about how he actually was holding Cactus's ear. Great stuff here.
2CS talks about his WWF career. He wasn't a fan of his gimmick and wishes he was higher on the card. He says during his WWF run, he was on alot of drugs.
2CS also discusses his Japanese career in depth. He describes the differences between wrestling in Japan vs America. He talks about NOAH, as well as All Japan. 2CS likes working in Japan alot.
2CS talks about alot more in this shoot interview. He goes in full detail when answering every question. 2CS was very hyper during this interview, and seemed to be happy to be talking. 2CS says he is really just 2 cold. He doesn't hide his drug use in this interview and keeps everything real. 2CS slips in and out of ebonics in this interview too, for all you hooked on ebonics people out there.
Final McWord
My favorite parts of this shoot were the Road Warrior Hawk/Buff Bagwell/Sid vs Arn and ECW Locker room stories. 2CS holds
nothing back when talking about these stories (or any other stories) but these stories are entertaining to hear. You feel
that 2CS is talking to you when talking about these stories.
The production values are great. ROH are hyping themselves up as the New Kings of the Shoot Interview. While that may be a very bold statement, the production is good, and the DVD picture is crystal clear.
This is a must for any 2CS fan obviously. This is also for anyone who wants to know more about ECW and WCW. 2CS really gives some insight into what was going on in WCW and ECW during the years he was there. He does talk about WWF, but this shoot doesn't really focus on his WWF work.
Overall- Highly recommended. I am a big fan of shoot interviews. This is definitely a good start for the ROH Straight Shootin series. 2CS was a good start as he was a good subject to interview.
