Hey everyone, welcome to McRankings, which is a monthly feature in the DOI newsletters. To spice up the DOI website, every week (Or as much free time as I can get) I will rank, in my opinion, the top 10 indy wrestlers that I have seen for the week. The monthly rankings will remain in the newsletter, which is available monthly. I will also rank the top 5 tag teams, top 5 women wrestlers and top 5 “Intangibles”. There will also be one “McMatch of the Weekend.” Rankings will be on what I’ve seen only, and I usually make all the top shows. NWA-TNA wrestlers will only be ranked if they wrestle in the northeast area, but I will not rank wrestlers on what they have done in NWA-TNA, but I will comment on it. This is what I look for in a ranking. The criteria is listed in order.
1- Workrate- how good was the match from a wrestling standpoint. A lot of rest holds? Non stop action? Ring psychology, footwork and selling moves will also factor into this.
2- Character/Crowd Reaction- How the wrestler did with the crowd. Was the crowd chanting boring or were they popping the whole match? Likewise, was the crowd sitting there or booing and cursing the hell out of the heels?
3- Finally win/loss records. This won’t really factor into it too much, but if 2 guys are tied, then I will give the nod to the guy with the better win/loss record.
What up everyone in DOI land and welcome to another McRankings. This weekend, I checked out Liberty States Wrestling's debut event, which featured Christian and Jay Lethal duking it out in the main event, for the NWA World Heavyweight title. These rankings reflect this show, as I only rank what I see.
TOP 10 SINGLES WRESTLERS
10. Plazma- lost to Quiet Storm this past Saturday.
9. Eric Matlock- defeated Reckless Youth with nefarious tactics at LSW.
8. Don Montoya- lost to Crowbar at LSW.
7. Quiet Storm- defeated Plazma on Saturday night.
6. Reckless Youth- lost to Eric Matlock, after interference from CM Vanderpile.
5. Crowbar- defeated Don Montoya at LSW.
4. Greg Matthews- looked strong despite losing to Daniel Puder on Saturday night.
3. Daniel Puder- defeated Tough Enough Alum, Greg Matthews.
2. Jay Lethal- fought valiantly in a loss to Christian Cage.
1. Christian Cage- defended the NWA World Heavyweight title successfully against Jay Lethal.
TOP 5 TAG TEAM WRESTLERS
5. NJ Mariners Baseball Team- I only saw 4 wrestling tag teams this week, so I'm grasping for straws here, as the NJ Mariners were in attendance this past Saturday, and kept the crowd lively.
4. Bison Bravado/Nick Berk- had a strong match despite losing to Havok/Mack at LSW.
3. The SAT's- came close to winning on Saturday night, but came up short.
2. The Havana Pitbulls- defeated the SAT's at LSW.
1. Havok & Monsta Mack- kept their undefeated streak alive, by defeating Team Philly members at LSW.
TOP 5 WOMEN WRESTLERS
Note: On weeks where there weren’t enough women wrestlers, managers/valets will be placed in spots. Women wrestlers will always be ranked ahead of managers/valets.
5. Slow week this week,
4. As I only saw two girls at LSW,
3. And neither of them are wrestlers, as both managed on the preshow.
2. Cherri Delicious- became an airport screener's nightmare, as she has added some piercings to her face.
1. Kitty Vaughn- managed Eric Nyenhuise for a minute at LSW.
TOP 5 INTANGIBLES
The intangibles will be used for the top 5 people/angles/interesting developments that occurred during the week.
5. Big Time Wrestling Debuts This Saturday- With a jam packed roster, it looks like BTW is doing whatever they can to give Bostonians the best show possible.
4. PWU announces working relationship with XLAW- PWU stands to make their heavyweight title a "World" title, with Trent Acid's upcoming PWU Title defense taking place south of the border.
3. ECW! ECW! ECW!- with already a third ECW "One Night Stand" announced, does anyone even care anymore? ECW is almost becoming "Night of the Living Dead". It just won't die and you just want to remember the entity before it gets bastardized. Of course, I'll be there like last year enjoying it, but it will never be the same.
2. Davey Richards Wins the Super 8- Like most winners of the Super 8, expect to see Davey Richards in every smart mark promotion from ROH to PW Elite. However, the Super 8 didn't have the same buzz this year, maybe it's due to over-saturation of wrestling by the same companies who usually book who ever is in the Super 8 this year?
1. TNA to Debut This Thursday Night- The real question is, will anyone purchase their PPV's when the Sopranos, Family Guy and Surreal Life have all been great this year? Plus, you could just watch a WCW Thunder from 6 years ago and save yourself 30 bucks.
