Hey everyone, welcome to McRankings, which is a monthly feature in the DOI newsletters. To spice up the DOI website, every week (Or as much free time as I can get) I will rank, in my opinion, the top 10 indy wrestlers that I have seen for the week. The monthly rankings will remain in the newsletter, which is available monthly. I will also rank the top 5 tag teams, top 5 women wrestlers and top 5 “Intangibles”. There will also be one “McMatch of the Weekend.” Rankings will be on what I’ve seen only, and I usually make all the top shows. NWA-TNA wrestlers will only be ranked if they wrestle in the northeast area, but I will not rank wrestlers on what they have done in NWA-TNA, but I will comment on it. This is what I look for in a ranking. The criteria is listed in order.
1- Workrate- how good was the match from a wrestling standpoint. A lot of rest holds? Non stop action? Ring psychology, footwork and selling moves will also factor into this.
2- Character/Crowd Reaction- How the wrestler did with the crowd. Was the crowd chanting boring or were they popping the whole match? Likewise, was the crowd sitting there or booing and cursing the hell out of the heels?
3- Finally win/loss records. This won’t really factor into it too much, but if 2 guys are tied, then I will give the nod to the guy with the better win/loss record.
What up everyone in DOI land and welcome to another McRankings. This weekend, I checked out Hardcore Homecoming's Philadelphia return. Since I rank what I see live only, the following rankings reflect that show only.
TOP 10 SINGLES WRESTLERS
10. Blue Meanie- beat Danny Doring on Saturday night.
9. Balls Mahoney- defeated John Kronus in a violent match.
8. CW Anderson- despite being on his deathbed, he fought valiantly against Matt Hyson.
7. Matt Hyson- defeated CW Anderson in a good match.
6. Gary Wolfe- defeated Shane Douglas on Saturday.
5. Shane Douglas- lost to Gary Wolfe in a dog collar match.
4. Ian Rotten- lost to Axl Rotten in a gruesome match.
3. Jerry Lynn- had a good match with Justin Credible.
2. Justin Credible- defeated Jerry Lynn in a cage match, with help from Lance Storm.
1. Axl Rotten- defeated Ian Rotten in a Tai Pei Death Match.
TOP 5 TAG TEAM WRESTLERS
5. I only saw 1 tag team match this week,
4. But regardless, these two teams would've got the 1 and 2 spot anyway
3. Because it was one of the best tag team matches I've seen in a while
2. Terry Funk/Sabu- lost to Team 3-D in an explosive and fiery match.
1. Team 3-D (Bubba/D-Von Dudley)- Defeated Terry Funk/Sabu in a kick ass match.
TOP 5 WOMEN WRESTLERS
Note: On weeks where there weren’t enough women wrestlers, managers/valets will be placed in spots. Women wrestlers will always be ranked ahead of managers/valets.
5. The Girl Selling Beer at The ECW Arena- Yea, there weren't that many girls at Hardcore Homecoming.
4. The Girl at Tony Lukes- does she ever get a day off?
3. Traci Brooks- did numerous different jobs for Hardcore Homecoming on Saturday.
2. Francine- managed Shane Douglas during his match with Gary Wolfe.
1. Dawn Marie- despite being way into her pregnancy, Dawn cut a promo and was involved in Hardcore Homecoming's main event.
TOP 5 INTANGIBLES
The intangibles will be used for the top 5 people/angles/interesting developments that occurred during the week.
5. TNA Set To Debut at the ECW Arena- Nothing is 100% yet, but TNA will most likely be holding their first ever show at the ECW arena in February. I can't wait to see how the Philly crowd reacts to Jeff Jarrett. If anyone can change the stagnant Philly scene, it's TNA.
4. Hardcore Homecoming A Success- While it wasn't as profitable nor as good as the first one, it was still better than 95% of what's out there today.
3. Christian Leaves the WWE- I'm sure we'll see him in TNA soon.
2. Wrestlers Wanting To Leave the WWE for TNA- I've heard Edge and Chris Jericho as wrestlers interested in working for TNA. However if TNA gets bigger, it may be only a matter of time before TNA wrestlers will have to work more than 4 times a month.
1. JAPW Returns This Saturday on 11/12- Fresh off the heels of their successful AC debut, JAPW returns to Rahway with B-Boy/Lethal, Acid/Hart, Rhino/Kazarian & more.
