Hey everyone, welcome to McRankings, which is a monthly feature in the DOI newsletters. To spice up the DOI website, every week (Or as much free time as I can get) I will rank, in my opinion, the top 10 indy wrestlers that I have seen for the week. The monthly rankings will remain in the newsletter, which is available monthly. I will also rank the top 5 tag teams, top 5 women wrestlers and top 5 “Intangibles”. There will also be one “McMatch of the Weekend.” Rankings will be on what I’ve seen only, and I usually make all the top shows. NWA-TNA wrestlers will only be ranked if they wrestle in the northeast area, but I will not rank wrestlers on what they have done in NWA-TNA, but I will comment on it. This is what I look for in a ranking. The criteria is listed in order.
1- Workrate- how good was the match from a wrestling standpoint. A lot of rest holds? Non stop action? Ring psychology, footwork and selling moves will also factor into this.
2- Character/Crowd Reaction- How the wrestler did with the crowd. Was the crowd chanting boring or were they popping the whole match? Likewise, was the crowd sitting there or booing and cursing the hell out of the heels?
3- Finally win/loss records. This won’t really factor into it too much, but if 2 guys are tied, then I will give the nod to the guy with the better win/loss record.
What up everyone in DOI land and welcome to another McRankings. This weekend I checked out JAPW's Internet Tapings as well as IEW's debut show. Who would make the cut this week? Find out below.
TOP 10 SINGLES WRESTLERS
10. Damian Adams- went 0-2 at 3PW, losing to Roadkill and losing in a shot to win the 3PW Tag Titles.
9. Azraiel- defeated Envy to win the AWA Light Heavyweight Championship.
8. Jay Lethal- defeated Rob Vegas after some nefarious activity.
7. Grim Reefer- lost to EC Negro at AWA.
6. EC Negro- defeated Grim Reefer at AWA on Friday night.
5. Matt Striker- was hilarious at 3PW, going 1-1, losing to Kruel and beating Rebel.
4. Simon Diamond- won the 3PW Tag Team Championships with Mike Kruel after losing to AJ Styles in a one-on-one match.
3. AJ Styles- defeated Simon Diamond at 3PW.
2. Christopher Daniels- lost to Slyck Wagner Brown in 3PW.
1. Slyck Wagner Brown- won the 3PW Heavyweight Championship from Christopher Daniels this past Saturday.
TOP 5 TAG TEAM WRESTLERS
5. Arik Cannon/Claudio Castagnoli- didn't see them live, but any team who won Chikara's Tag Tournament deserves a spot in these rankings.
4. Shaolin Wreckin Crew- lost to AMIL in their quest to win the AWA Tag Team titles.
3. Mike Kruel/Simon Diamond- won the 3PW Tag Team Championships on Saturday.
2. Monsta Mack/Damian Adams- lost to Simon Diamond/Mike Kruel in a bid to win the 3PW Tag Team Championships.
1. All Money Is Legal- defended the AWA Tag Team titles against the Shaolin Wreckin Crew on Friday night.
TOP 5 WOMEN WRESTLERS
Note: On weeks where there weren’t enough women wrestlers, managers/valets will be placed in spots. Women wrestlers will always be ranked ahead of managers/valets.
5. Penny Dreadful- forgot to mention her last week, after she took a beating at IEW from the hands of the ESK.
4. Talia/Alicia- managed at 3PW and AWA respectively.
3. Krystal Synn- defeated Luscious Lily at AWA.
2. Luscious Lily- lost to Krystal Synn at AWA.
1. April Hunter- defeated the Blue Meanie in 3PW.
TOP 5 INTANGIBLES
The intangibles will be used for the top 5 people/angles/interesting developments that occurred during the week.
5. PWU and UXW return on 2/25 and 2/26 Respectively- These promotions have a firendly working relationship, so it should be interesting to see if any crossover angles occur.
4. Many WXW Wrestlers to Appear on WWE Smackdown- Watch Smackdown this Thursday and you might possibly see Kevin Matthews, Krissy Vaine, Talia and many others.
3. Chikara Runs A Successful Tag Team Tournament- It was great to see tag team wrestling alive in Chikara, as many fans enjoyed three big days of wrestling.
2. Vordell Walker is Mick Foley's Huge Surprise at ROH- Seems that ROH could use more creative juice when it comes to booking major surprises. Doug Gentry anyone?
1. 3PW Returns Successfully This Past Saturday- After rumors of near extinction, 3PW returned this past Saturday and put on a good show.
