Hey everyone, welcome to McRankings, which is a monthly feature in the DOI newsletters. To spice up the DOI website, every week (Or as much free time as I can get) I will rank, in my opinion, the top 10 indy wrestlers that I have seen for the week. The monthly rankings will remain in the newsletter, which is available monthly. I will also rank the top 5 tag teams, top 5 women wrestlers and top 5 “Intangibles”. There will also be one “McMatch of the Weekend.” Rankings will be on what I’ve seen only, and I usually make all the top shows. NWA-TNA wrestlers will only be ranked if they wrestle in the northeast area, but I will not rank wrestlers on what they have done in NWA-TNA, but I will comment on it. This is what I look for in a ranking. The criteria is listed in order.
1- Workrate- how good was the match from a wrestling standpoint. A lot of rest holds? Non stop action? Ring psychology, footwork and selling moves will also factor into this.
2- Character/Crowd Reaction- How the wrestler did with the crowd. Was the crowd chanting boring or were they popping the whole match? Likewise, was the crowd sitting there or booing and cursing the hell out of the heels?
3- Finally win/loss records. This won’t really factor into it too much, but if 2 guys are tied, then I will give the nod to the guy with the better win/loss record.
What up everyone in DOI land and welcome to another McRankings. This weekend I checked out JAPW as well as AWA. Both shows had some good wrestlers on them, so this week was tougher than usual. With that said here are the rankings this week:
TOP 10 SINGLES WRESTLERS
10. Roderick Strong- picked up a big win against Super Dragon in JAPW.
9. Kevin Steen- defeated Sexxxy Eddie in JAPW.
8. El Generico- fell to the hands of Jack Evans in JAPW.
7. Jack Evans- defeated El Generico in an entertaining match.
6. B-Boy- lost to Teddy Hart in JAPW.
5. Teddy Hart- defeated B-Boy in a great match.
4. Jay Lethal- lost to Azraiel in a very competitive match.
3. Azraiel- defeated Jay Lethal and won the JAPW Light Heavyweight Championship.
2. AJ Styles- lost to Homicide in a good match in JAPW.
1. Homicide- defeated AJ Styles in JAPW.
TOP 5 TAG TEAM WRESTLERS
5. Corvis Fear/Rush- lost solo matches in JAPW, and had an interesting match against the ESK at AWA.
4. The Solution- lost the JAPW Tag Team titles to the CSC.
3. The H-Effect- looked good in a loss to the Carnage Crew in JAPW.
2. Carnage Crew- defeated The H-Effect in a very competitive match.
1. The Christopher Street Connection- became JAPW Tag Team Champions for the first time by beating The Solution.
TOP 5 WOMEN WRESTLERS
Note: On weeks where there weren’t enough women wrestlers, managers/valets will be placed in spots. Women wrestlers will always be ranked ahead of managers/valets.
5. Layla Herrera- was a company woman at AWA.
4. Alicia- was a company woman at JAPW.
3. The Girl From Sexxxy Eddies Promo- Hey I saw no women matches and only one woman manager this week. I'm grasping for straws here.
2. Cherri Delicious- didn't look so hot in AWA when she attacked Bison.
1. Liz- made her JAPW debut by selling knit hats. Also did her thing at AWA.
TOP 5 INTANGIBLES
The intangibles will be used for the top 5 people/angles/interesting developments that occurred during the week.
5. The Elite's Promo at AWA- One of the more funnier shoots that I can remember in recent time.
4. Grim Reefer Needs Back Surgery- One of the brightest wrestlers today, and a guy who can have a good match with anyone, Reefer, saw his career come to a stall this week, as he needed emergency back surgery. Here's to hoping he can come back soon.
3. SST vs Teddy Hart's Group Feud in JAPW- One of the top feuds on the indies today features Homicide of the SST vs Teddy Hart. JAPW has done a great job building this feud up. They've built it up so good, that it's so unpredictable what will happen next.
2. FUSION Debuts this Friday Night- Scott Hall, Tommy Dreamer, Justin Credible, Ultimo Dragon, Durango Kid, X-Pac, Sean O'Haire. The list goes on and on, as this will either be one of the bigger shows of the year, or as some are predicting, an MECWish type show.
1. Jack Evans Bump at CZW's Cage of Death VI- We have the footage on the site if you haven't seen it yet. Simply put, Jack is fucking crazy and I'm glad to hear he's ok and not broken in half.
