1- Workrate- how good was the match from a wrestling standpoint. A lot of rest holds? Non stop action? Ring psychology, footwork and selling moves will also factor into this.
2- Character/Crowd Reaction- How the wrestler did with the crowd. Was the crowd chanting boring or were they popping the whole match? Likewise, was the crowd sitting there or booing and cursing the hell out of the heels?
3- Finally win/loss records. This won’t really factor into it too much, but if 2 guys are tied, then I will give the nod to the guy with the better win/loss record.
What up everyone in DOI land and welcome to another McRankings. This week I checked out the best of NY and the best of NJ in USA Pro and JAPW. Let’s see who got ranked where.

7. Low Ki- defeated B-Boy in JAPW, but lost to Al Snow in a quest to win the USA PW Heavyweight title.
6. Trent Acid- defeated Jack Evans in USA PW, but lost to Dan Maff in a JAPW Title match.
5. Homicide- defeated D-Lo Brown in USA PW, then went on to beat the crap out of Teddy Hart in JAPW.

3. Jack Evans- won Best of the Light Heavyweights 4 in JAPW, as well as having a strong match against Trent Acid in USA PW.
2. Azraiel- had a match of the year candidate with Jay Lethal in JAPW, and looked excellent despite coming up short.
1. Jay Lethal- defeated the Amazing Red in USA PW, and had an incredible victory, retaining his JAPW Light Heavyweight Championship over Azraiel.
5. Deranged/Reefer- had a great showing in their debut match, in USA PW, against The SAT.
4. The SAT- defeated Deranged/Reefer in USA PW, and teamed up in JAPW.

TOP 5 INTANGIBLES
The intangibles will be used for the top 5 people/angles/interesting developments that occurred during the week.
5. The Comeback of Chris Candido- Overcoming a lot of outside interference in his career, Chris Candido has put together a solid year so far in 2004. He had maybe his best match this year with Mike Kruel this past Friday night. I’d be shocked not to see Candido back in a WWE ring by the time he hangs up his boots.
4. Long Shows from USA PW and JAPW this weekend- Despite being the same length, what a contrast it was. Friday night was a wake-up call for USA PW, and it’s time to bring back a bigger fan base and give stories people can care about. JAPW’s fans showed why JAPW might have the biggest fanbase in this area (Outside of ROH) as almost every fan stayed throughout the entire 5 hour event.
3. Azraiel- how is it possible for someone to win the DOI’s most underrated wrestler award two years in a row? It might happen this year, as Azraiel has solidly and quietly put together a career year with not too much fanfare. I think his match with Jay Lethal this past Saturday woke up a lot of people, and makes Azraiel an easy top 5 cruiserweight today.
2. Jay Lethals 2004 Career- Jay Lethal is on pace to win the DOI Wrestler of the Year award for 2004. He has been number 1 on the McRankings more than anyone else this year. Week in and week out, Lethal has been having excellent matches and has collected big victories, in addition to trophies and championships. Promoters, his peers and fans alike are taking notice of Jay Lethal. His work with Azraiel was amazing this past Saturday.
1. JAPW has a Show of the Year Candidate- A kick ass effort by everyone in the JAPW organization, as they had, in my opinion, the best all around show of the year. JAPW has outgrown their small NJ roots, as fans from all over checked out the show. JAPW can’t be considered a small “Jersey” fed anymore, as they are in the running as one of the top 5 wrestling companies in the United States today. It might be time to make the “J” stand for something else, as it’s not just for NJ people anymore.
