McPinions
By: Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey

What's up everyone, and welcome to the latest McPinions column here on the DOI. Today, I am going to use this column to focus on WXW's 3rd Annual Elite 8. The Elite 8, or Super 8, as it was previously called, is the premier tournament for womens wrestling on the indy scene. Past winners of this tournament include Tracy Brooks and April Hunter. Many fine women wrestlers have competed in this tournament, such as La Felina (former WWE Womens Champion Gail Kim) and Phoenix, who has since received an OVW contract. This is the "elite" tournament, as the name implies, and just being involved in this tournament is a milestone for a woman on the indy scene.

With that said, here are my predictions and preview of the matches.

First Round

Alicia vs. Alere Little Feather
These girls have fought all over the indies in the past few months, as they have knocked heads in SSCW, JCW, IHPW and in other promotions. This should be a solid match as both women know each other. I'll take Alere Little Feather to advance, as WXW is her home fed, and the WXW fans know her better.

Cindy Rogers vs. "Special K" Krissy Vaine
This should be another great match. Krissy has improved her in ring work immensely, and Cindy is one of the best women technical wrestlers today. Cindy is being hyped strong in this tournament. Due to her being the champion last year, she wasn't allowed to compete in the tournament. This year, she is hungry to make an impact, and I see her disposing Krissy in the first round.

Allison Danger vs. Simply Luscious Ronnie Stevens
Another match full of high talent. Like I have said on this site before, I am a bigger fan of Danger's manager work, than I am of her in-ring work. Allison is decent in the ring, but I don't think she matches up to someone who has the credentials that Simply Luscious has. But then again, most girls don't match up to Luscious's skills and experience. I see Simply Luscious winning this match, and moving on in the tournament.

Lacey vs. Mercedes Martinez
WXW really pulled out all the stops this year by uniting 8 high shelf women wrestlers in one show. Both women here are relatively new to WXW. This match is hard to predict here, but I am going to pick Mercedes Martinez to win this match, as I think she matches up better against Simply Luscious.

Second Round

Alere Little Feather vs Cindy Rogers
Cindy Rogers is on a roll in WXW and is looking to reclaim her Womens Championship. Winning this tournament earns her a shot, and after watching the past events in WXW, I think Cindy is unstoppable. This match should be entertaining, but that won't make a difference for Alere, as I see Cindy winning this bout.

Simply Luscious Ronnie Stevens vs Mercedes Martinez
These women have similiar builds and high workrate, and I see this translating into a good match. With a heel Cindy going to the finals, in my predictions, I see the face Luscious, winning this competitive match.

Third Round
Finals
To become the third ever winner of the Elite 8

Cindy Rogers vs Simply Luscious
This tournament couldn't have come at a better time for Cindy Rogers. I think this tournament is custom made for her, and will be one of the best nights in her career. I see Cindy Rogers winning this match. Even though Cindy is a heel in WXW, I see her winning this match cleanly, cementing her spot as one of the top on the scene, and becoming the number 1 contender to the WXW Womens Championship.

WXW has also announced some non-tournament matches.

For the WXW Womens Title
Bra and Panties Match
(c) Talia vs Amber ONeal
Despite WXW promoting womens wrestling positively with this show, they take a step back with this match. A Bra and Panties match on a show that is supposed to be the glory night of Womens Wrestling, isn't a proper way to get the sport of women wrestling over. Add in that it's your champion in the match, it's a bigger slap to the face to women wrestling purists. I've said it once and I'll say it again, Talia is the Sable of WXW. Look for Talia to retain here, and go into a feud with Cindy Rogers.

For the WXW Heavyweight Title
(c) Mana "The Polynesian Warrior" vs ???
??? could be anyone from Baby Killer Snitsky to Johnny Bravado. Both are men Mana's beaten in the past, and I think whoever ??? winds up being, ??? will be looking at the lights, courtesy of a Mana Tiger Driver.

Overall, this show looks like it will be really good. It's a shame that former Elite 8 winners, April Hunter and Tracy Brooks won't be there. Due to WXW rule, former winners aren't allowed to compete in the tournament. Tracy won the tournament two years ago, and it boosted her career, as she received work with ROH and NWA TNA. April winning the tournament a year ago was just another feather in her hat as one of the top women on the scene today. In fact, April went on to win the WXW womens title, and never even lost it. April would be good to have back in the division, as Talia is nowhere near the level of April. It wouldn't hurt having Tracy back either.

WXW always puts on quality shows, and this looks to be another one.

The Elite 8 takes place this Saturday on October 9th in Sciota, PA
