McPinions
By: Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey
What up everyone, and boy does having a real job kill having time to write shit. Anyway, welcome to this special edition of McPinions as we look at the JCW J-Cup. The JCW/Jersey J-Cup is the second oldest indy tournament in the northeast, behind the prestigious Super 8. In its soon to be 5 year history, JCW has seen (in chronological order) Judas Young, Low Ki, Reckless Youth and Jay Lethal beat 4 men in one night and become the J-Cup champion. Like Ricky O said in his Type-O's column, I think tournaments have been watered down as of late. It seems that every promotion is doing a tournament. Every Dick and Harry have been having some tournament for some inane reason. The J-Cup is one of these rare tournaments that have been around for a while and I'd like to think it's somewhat prestigious.
Real fast, just to get it out of the way, the JCW 5th Annual J-Cup is this Sunday, June 27th, at
2 PM, at the Boys and Girls Club in Garfield, NJ. Here is all the information on the J-CUP,
courtesy of the Press Release page:
The show will be held at "The JCW Arena," The Garfield Boys & Girls Club on Midland Ave.
in Garfield, NJ!
Bell time will be at 2PM! Advance tickets for this event are $25 for the
front row and $20 for general admission, and can be reserved by calling the JCW Box Office
number listed above or e-mailing mrjcw@optonline.net!
THIS JUST IN!
We here at Jersey Championship Wrestling are sympathetic to those wrestling fans who had
purchased tickets and intended to attend H2 Wrestling's debut event in the Boston area,
but will not be able to attend due to the cancellation of the show. JCW would like to
offer an invitation to those fans that have a proof of purchase of tickets to this event
to attend the 5th Annual Jersey J-Cup this Sunday at 2PM at the "JCW Arena," The Garfield
Boys & Girls Club located on Midland Avenue in Garfield!
We do not want the great fans of independent wrestling to be totally deprived
of indy wrestling this weekend, and we invite you to see some of the stars
that would have been on the H2 show plus many more compete for one of the most
prestigious trophies in wrestling today, The Jersey J-Cup! Anyone showing up
with either a ticket to the H2 show or some other form of receipt will receive an
extra 5 dollars off along with any other offer JCW is already offering, such as
the ticket sale tomorrow at ROH's event in Philadelphia!
Don't miss out on this great offer, and we hope to see you there!
-The Staff of JCW
Well with that all out of the way, let's do a run down of the tournament, with my predictions.
BRACKET A
ROUND ONE
Dave Greco (JCW) vs Damian Adams (3PW)
The SSCW Champion in a JCW tournament? I'm gonna roll the dice and say that the only wrestler
to appear in all 5 J-Cups (Greco) advances in the first round. Hopefully Greco's first round
match this year is better than his match last year. Adams is a good wrestler, but I think
loyalty and improvement will give Greco the win here.
M-Dogg 20 (Independent) vs Sabian (CZW)
I've seen Sabian only a few times. I think M-Dogg is your big name here, and he goes on
to advance in this tournament.
Altar Boy Luke (LXW) vs Super Dragon (California)
Super Dragon has to be considered the favorite to win this tournament. I think JCW
would be dissapointing alot of fans if he was eliminated early, therefore I'm taking
Dragon to win this match.
Shawn Sheridan (JCW) vs Rob Eckos (ECWA)
This might be the comedy match of the tournament. Therefore the Eckos BCM is 0. Hell it's a
JCW tournament and Sheridan deserves a break so I'll take Sheridan to pick up the W here.
BRACKET B
ROUND ONE
Mike Quackenbush (CHIKARA) vs Scorpio Sky (LXW)
Quack has been a regular for JCW. I don't see what the big deal is with Scorpio Sky. Quack has
looked good in previous tournaments, and I look for that trend to continue here, as I'll take
Quack to go to the second round.
BBoy (CZW) vs Aaron Epic (FIPW)
Like Homicide the year before, I see B-Boy laying a supreme ass whipping for anyone standing
in his way. I'm not too familiar with Epic, but there is no way I can pick against B-Boy.
Matt Striker (ECWA) vs Kahagas (FIPW)
This seems like a no brainer. Striker is the more accomplished wrestler and has been
a big name for JCW. Kahagas is the JCW Cruiserweight Champion. This tournament does have alot
of wrestlers out of state in it, but I'm taking the homegrown (gay) Striker to win this match.
Josh Daniels (Zero-1) vs Tyler Payne (NYWC)
This might be the sleeper match of the tournament. Both these guys are extremely good.
Josh has been on a rampage as of late. Usually the J-Cup is to elevate new superstars, and I
think Daniels has hit that level already. Despite that, I don't see Tyler beating a NJ guy,
so I'm taking Daniels to move ahead.
Super Dragon vs Shawn Sheridan
Dragon is the favorite to win this. I don't see him being ousted by Sheridan here because if he
does, you'll have alot of angry fans I think. This should be a good test for Sheridan. I'm taking
Dragon to win this.
BRACKET B
ROUND TWO
B-Boy vs Mike Quackenbush
If this goes down, this will be a fantastic match. Quack has had a stellar history in the
J-Cup. I think B-Boy is looking to make history, and make Quack history, as I see B-Boy
winning this.
Matt Striker vs Josh Daniels
This match has happened a few times, and every time it's been a good match. Look for that
trend to continue. I think this match depends on what Striker we see here. Do we see serious
Striker? Gay Striker? Happy-go-lucky Striker? Babyface Striker? The man has a multiple personality
disorder. Whatever Striker we see, I think it will lead to a decent match, and with Striker
looking at the lights after a Daniels headbutt.
BRACKET B
ROUND THREE
B-Boy vs Josh Daniels
Another excellent match, should it happen, these two will turn it up a notch. Daniels has
been on fire as of late, but I think a B-Boy shining wizard will put that fire out and advance
B-Boy to the finals.
Just in case of any no-shows or injuries, I have recieved word that Dan Barry will be the HEAD alternate to fill a spot. Other alternates in case of no-shows or injuries are Bandido Jr and Pinkie Sanchez. No offense to the last two guys, but I think the J-Cup will suit you better next year, not this year, so hopefully everyone shows up as planned.
Well that's it for the JCW J-Cup tournament part. Will B-Boy vs Super Dragon be the finals? Go to the fucking show and find out! Also look for the review of the show the next morning!
In a non tournament match, JCW Heavyweight Champion, Slyk Wagner Brown w/April Hunter goes up against perennial JCW J-Cup star, CM Punk. This should be a huge test for Slyk Wagner Brown and it might put the message board heroes to shame. This should be another good match on this show.
Well there you have it folks, the J-Cup preview. I'm going to be honest, JCW needs all the support they can get, as recent crowd numbers have been in the shitter. With a line-up like this, it's definitely worth it.
With H2Wrestling cancelling, give JCW a chance and watch JCW bring themselves back to their roots.
I'm out of here folks!
