JAPW 6/5 Preview!
What up boys and girls and welcome to the super quick JAPW McPredictions column. Due to me having to work my real job more, this might come off a bit rushed, but I will try to do my best. Well, here we go!
JAPW returns THIS SATURDAY on June 5th in Rahway, NJ. JAPW has been having killer shows all year, so there is no reason not to think that this will be one of the Top 10 shows of the year. For those who are not up-to-date on this show, here is the official press release:
JAPW Press Release for 6/5/04
With that said, let's do the match by match rundown:
Main Event
Special Challenge Tag Team Match
When Worlds Collide
Vader and Mike Awesome
Vs.
Dan Maff and Samoa Joe
This match has all the star power to be one of the most talked about matches for some time. Samoa Joe and Danny Maff are an odd pairing. Where does Monsta Mack fit into all of this? Vader and Awesome aligned at the last show and I believe this is their first time ever teaming up in their careers. This should be a great match. I see Danny Maff and Joe winning, but could Joe turn on Maff during the victory party?
JAPW Light Heavyweight Championship
3 Way Dance
Jay Lethal © Vs. Sonjay Dutt Vs. The Amazing Red
This should be another incredible match. I think it's still too early to give Red a singles match, after coming off that leg injury, so this should be a test to see how he can do with two of the top cruisers on the indies today. I don't see Sonjay getting the belt, at least not yet. I'll take Jay Lethal to win this, with the inadvertant help of his nemesis, Azraiel.
JAPW Tag Team Championship
The Solution - Papadon and Havoc © w/Johnny D
Vs.
The H Effect - Dixie and Deranged
I don't know how the H-Effect are getting a tag team title shot, considering they lost at the last show to the Stampede Bulldogs. You'd figure the Bulldogs would get the title shot instead. Anyway, this should be an interesting match-up between big men vs cruiserweights. Deranged and Dixie are arguably the top all around entertainers today. Johnny D. is the manager of champions in JAPW, so I'm riding the D factor again to get the Solution the win. The last show saw Johnny D pull out a fireball for the Solution to win the belts, so who knows what will go down here. With the tag titles
flip-flopping so much in recent months, I see The Solution winning this match. No matter who wins, this should be a stellar tag team match.
Grudge Match
Trent Acid
Vs.
B Boy
This is going to feature two of the best wrestlers CZW has ever produced on the east coast. Both men didn't necessarily start in CZW, but it is where they made their claim to (indy) fame. Trent Acid is on a roll right now, and I see him continuing to roll with a victory here.
Tag Team High Fliers Dream Match
The SAT - Jose and Joel Maximo
Vs.
M Dogg 20 and Josh Prohibition
I don't think this match is even needed on this show, but nevertheless, it should be entertaining. I think the natural tag team, and the more established, The SAT, pick up the win here and go on to challenge The Solution at the next show.
Return Match
Justice Pain
Vs.
The Insane Dragon
These guys had an incredible match on April 24 for JAPW, and the odds are they will do it again. Izzy won the first time, so I'll take Justice Pain to win this match and knot the series at one a piece.
Hurricane John Walters
Vs.
Nick Berk
Nick Berk returns to JAPW after a years absence. Walters is all the rage of the indy scene. It might be me, but Nick Berk seems to be enhancement talent for JAPW, and that is why I'm taking Walters to win this match.
The Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz - EC Negro and KC Blade
Vs.
H2O Hip Hop Overflow - Corvis Fear and Rush Margera
This match features two of the youngest tag teams today. Both would make good opponents for any of the other 4 tag teams on this show. The DRS have been missing something since losing their JAPW tag belts back in September to Slyk/April. This might be the match where they find it on their way back to the top of the title scene. Where does Monsta Mack and La Familia fit into all of this?
As of right now, these are the 8 matches announced. There will also be two dark matches, which will be determined TONIGHT, as Ray Sager of JAPW will be pulling wrestlers from the AWA promotion at tonights show, for a shot to work for what is considered the best promotion in NJ. You know what, let's not even play political, Ray Sager is pulling wrestlers from AWA to work for THE best promotion in NJ. If I find out what the dark matches are tonight, look for a post on the message board.
Final McWord
JAPW is one of my favorite promotions and a can't miss for me for several reasons. Reasonable length, memorable matches, and a product that speaks for itself, JAPW not only innovates every show, but they keep things unpredictable. With Danny Maff/Samoa Joe vs Vader/Mike Awesome, you won't find another show with this type of caliber in the main event. Look at the credentials- The JAPW and ROH Heavyweight Champions team up against the former WCW Heavyweight Champion and ECW Heavyweight Champion. That alone elevates the prestige of JAPW and the importance of this match. With the La Familia angle going down, it should be interesting to see what happens.
Overall- This IS the show to be at this Saturday night. Well of course if you're in Florida, then you're probably going to the Peterson Cup, which also looks good, but anywhere else, check out JAPW.

Sorry for the short report, but I'm doing this on a 1/2 hour lunchbreak.
