McPinions
By: Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey
What up boys and girls and welcome to another thrilling installment of McPinions. This time I will be discussing this Saturday's events. What was once called Super Saturday has turned into Still Pretty Good Saturday, as JCW was forced to reschedule to May 1st. Alas, there are still a million shows this April 24th, with ROH, NWS and others runnning. I am going to focus on the two strongest line-ups in the NJ area, JAPW and CSWF.
JAPW has a rich history and are considered by many as the best promotion in not only in NJ, but in the tri-state area. They do have the largest fan base in NJ and it seems whenever they do something, other promotions quickly follow suit. I mean since JAPW announced Vader, other indy promoters are salivating looking to get ahold of Vader. JAPW was also the first promotion to bring Al Snow and Jerry Lawler into this area. This Saturday, JAPW becomes the first promotion in this area not only to bring in the former heavyweight champion of the world, in Vader, but they are also bringing in former ECW Heavyweight Champion, Mike Awesome to challenge Danny Maff. That's not even scratching the surface of that show... but we'll get back to JAPW.
CSWF saw alot of downs before seeing alot of ups recently. CSWF has sort of turned into the TNA of NJ, meaning that you can only see TNA talent at CSWF shows. Where else can you see AMW? Mike Tenay? Ron Killings? With AJ Styles winning the NWA TNA championship, it might not be too far off before you see him join CSWF. CSWF is also bringing in Rowdy Roddy Piper for this show. No other promotion in this area has done that today. While bringing Piper in maybe a costly venture, surely this will generate some interest. With their main event changed, due to the WWE's involvement, CSWF will be forced to show that it did not bother them, and come out with a steamrolling show.
I now present to you my MATCH by MATCH preview/predictions of both shows. I will also let you know which show I will be going to at the end.
All information on both shows were taken from the DOI Press Release Page.
CSWF
CSWF Heavyweight Title Match
Ron "The Truth" Killings will be defending his title!!
This was the match that was changed due to the E's involvement. I don't know who CSWF has in mind in this spot. Maybe Slyk can get a rematch? If not, maybe an old school CSWFer like Julio Dinero or Chris Hamrick can take this spot. Either way, I see Ron Killings walking out as champion.
Al Snow will be in action!!!
Al will beat whoever he is wrestling now, since the match change.
CSWF Cruiser "X" Title Match
Michael Shane (Champion) vs The Grim Reefer w/"Strangler" Nick Maddox
It's time for Reefer to get that respect from other promotions and win this match. Michael Shane is overrated and it's about time the Grim Reefer gets some burn in CSWF.
CSWF Internet Title Match
"Alpha Male" Justin Powers defends against "Platinum" Mike Preston
Ugh, go to the bathroom for this one. Justin Powers must be selling 9797 tickets a show. He does not belong representing any company as champion. Therefore, I see him retaining the title anyway.
#1 Contenders Match - Cruiser "X" Title
Ken Scampi vs "Adrenaline" Brian Fury vs "No Highspots Needed" Tyler Payne
This match might steal the show, if given the time. I don't really see Tyler Payne as a Cruiserweight. I say the NYWC guys cancel each other out and Brian Fury wins this one.
Rapid Fire Maldonado vs "Hi Flyin" Chris Hamrick
This match was sort of thrown together. I'll take Chris Hamrick, who has been with the company from day 1, to win this match over Rapidfire.
CSWF Tag Team Title Match
The United Nations (Prince Nana & Dan Barry) w/Mistress Asia defend the titles against The Solution (Popadon & Havok) w/"Sure Thing" John Shane
It's the Solution's year. They already have the SSCW and IWA Tag belts. Could this be the third title they pick up? The CSWF Tag Team Championship scene has been a joke. Sonjay Dutt has been the champion there yet has never defended it. Dan Barry seems to be just thrown into defending the tag title when needed. It's time to get those belts on a real team and make them respectable.
Slyk Wagner Brown w/April Hunter vs Matt Striker w/Miss Michelle
This should be a really good match. This could also steal the show. Hopefully Miss Michelle will get more involved than she usually does. This should be a number 1 contenders match. Both of these guys can carry any show they are on.
Tara Charisma finally gets revenge as she faces John Shane with ONE HAND TIED BEHIND HIS BACK!!!
Tara Charisma is going to ride John Shane like the bitch he is! Could Tara win this match with the stinkface? I'm sure John Shane will try to get a spanking in on this match, but I believe Tara will be able to handle it and win this match.
Card subject to change. Plus Mike Tenay, MANA, Mistress Asia, Mr. Crowbar, Sinister X, Candie, Julio Dinero, JD Dreamer, Jim Molineux, Miss Michelle & many surprises!!
I think it's great that Ref Jim Molineux was included in this lol.
Also, Roddy Piper will be there to do his Piper's Pit. Who knows what the hell will go on. Smart Mark 101 says bring in Jimmy Snuka and wack a coconut over his head.
Now onto JAPW...
Main Event
JAPW Heavyweight Championship
Special Challenge Match
Dan Maff Vs. Mike Awesome with Monsta Mack
This should be match of the night. With so many other matches on the show, who knows. I see Danny Maff recruiting Vader as his manager to combat Mack. I think Maff has to take a powerbomb through a table, ECW Awesome style for this match to be a match of the year contender. If Maff wins this match, it cements him and JAPW as the top dogs of indy wrestling.
VADER vs ???
To go with my theory above, and since I saw it posted on the message board, which means it's true, I see Monsta Mack stepping up against Vader. I think whoever wrestles Vader will be eating a Vaderbomb and looking at the lights for 3 seconds.
Open Challenge Match
Teddy Hart Vs. The Amazing Red
Can Red still go? This match will show us if Red is 100% or not. Teddy Hart can make any match feel like a main event. His match with Homicide was outstanding. I say Teddy Hart wins here to beefen things up with his Canadian Crew. Please recoginize that JAPW is the only promotion not to have any problems with Teddy Hart.
Tag Team Grudge Match
The Backseat Boyz Vs. The Stampede Bulldogs
Another match that can steal the show. I can see either team winning this match, which makes it exciting. If The Backseats are back for the long haul, I see them winning. If The Stampede Bulldogs are going to be around with Teddy, I see them winning. Shit. Flip a coin. Heads. It's Backseats. I'll take Acid/Kashmere to win.
JAPW Light Heavyweight Championship
Return Match No DQ
Jay Lethal © Vs. Azrieal
I hate to sound redundant, but this is another match that can steal the show. These guys know each other very well and have feuded for some time. I pick Azrieal to get the win, and possibly setting up a ladder match for the Light Heavy Weight title.
JAPW Tag Team Championship
The Shaolin Wrecking Crew © Vs. The Solution w/Johnny D
Solution are 2-0 against the SWC this year, and have even defeated them for the SSCW Tag Titles. SWC just won the titles, so I don't know if I see them losing it here, although Johnny D is with the Solution. I'll take the "D" factor, and Johnny D takes another tag team to championship gold.
Singles Action
Justice Pain Vs. Xavier
I was not impressed with Justice Pain at all last show. After watching his last match, I'd go to the bathroom and jiggle my wang, even if I didn't have to piss, just so I wouldn't have to watch him in a JAPW ring. Of course that's idiotic to say, but go with it. I'll take Xavier to win this match after a Kiss your X goodbye.
Light Heavyweight Contenders Match
M Dogg 20 Vs. Roderick Strong
Interesting match. This is like an east coast vs west coast match. I'll take Roderick Strong to win this match and continue his roll in JAPW.
Tag Team Action
The Christopher Street Connection w/Jailbait Vs. Corvis Fear and Rush Margera
Probably the only pure comedy match on this show. I see the CSC winning this bout. This will be a test for Corvis/Rush to see if they can hang with one of the best tag teams today.
Slyk Wagner Brown was scheduled to appear at JCW along with April Hunter. With Slyk/April dropping the JAPW Tag Titles at the last show, they were originally scheduled not to be at JAPW, and were going to wrestle at CSWF/JCW. With JCW now postponed a week, could Slyk/April show up at JAPW in any capacity? Logic says yes.
Outside influence: Both shows are featuring guys from all over the world. You have Piper from Scotland. You got Vader who now resides in Japan and Colorado. You got guys from TNA. You got guys from Florida and the west coast. WRESTLERS ARE COMING TO THE NORTH EAST BECAUSE THE NORTH EAST IS THE BEST SPOT FOR INDY WRESTLING. If you're a wrestling fan you can not miss out in this. Support either CSWF or JAPW that day as both promotions are putting on kick ass shows for what is supposed to be the best fans of the northeast. Show the wrestlers and promotions why they deserve to and should be on north east shows.
Final McWord
Where will I be? I hate to sound so biased, but JAPW hands down. I don't think there is one bad match on that show, with the exception of what Justice Pain does. I'm also a huge fan of Vader, so that had me sold from day one. Adding Teddy Hart, Red, Mike Awesome, Stampede Bulldogs, The Backseats and more, are just things that make the show sweeter. Either way, I see both promotions selling alot of tapes of their shows after April 24. I think any other day, CSWF has the better show, but I think JAPW has established themselves as "can't miss."
In all fairness to CSWF, I will have a tape review once it's released, of their 4/24 show. This show shouldn't go by without something being written about it on the DOI.
Where do I recommend you fans to go? Go to the show that interests you the most. Either way have a good time and enjoy "Not Super but Still Pretty Good" NJ Saturday.
