JCW- February 22nd

YO! And welcome to the McReview. Today I went to Jersey Championship Wrestling's "REBORN" show. JCW has been the talk, by alot of people in indy wrestling, since their last show, back in November. Since November, JCW went through a difficult time, seeing 1/2 of management quit, having a show get snowed out on December 6th, and even rumors of JCW ceasing operations floated around the indy world. In recent weeks, JCW and SSCW have had a rivalry which saw Carmine Sabia of SSCW, lash out at Ricky O. This was also the same interview Carmine referred to himself as the "George Steinbrenner" of indy wrestling, a quote that was thrown around at JCW today. More on JCW/SSCW at the end of this McReview. Since time is a wasting, and I have to get up early tomorrow so I can hang out at the Motivators house instead of going to class, let's roll.

JCW
Garfield, NJ
Referees: Sr. Official Ref Garry Moore, Ref Kenny Edwards, Ref Bryce, Ref from BWO whose name slips the mind
Commentator: Mike Berkowitz
Attendance: 450 by guestimation (JCW reported an estimate of 500+ paid)

Show started off with Chris Candido doing a plug for an upcoming wrestling seminar. He was joined by Bam Bam Bigelow, Damian Dragon, Foxxy Dreams, Tammy Sytch, Miss Kara, Bandido Jr., J-Kronik, and Striker. This was the same thing Candido was plugging at CSWF. He has a training seminar with Ricky Steamboat coming up on March 27 and 28. They were taping this for a commercial to be aired in NJ. This was pretty funny as they did several takes to get the crowd as loud as possible. The crowd stood on their feet and cheered like wild men on the last take, satisfying the TV cameras. This was funny to watch and Candido showed off his personality for the second day in a row.

Mike Berkowitz, the voice of JCW, without Lord Clarence McDougal came out next. He welcomed the large crowd to JCW. He then brought out "the man who made this all possible," Ricky Otazu. No wonder why he just calls himself Ricky O lol. Ricky O takes a cheap shot at the A-Rod dealing and says the Yanks bought the world series. He said thankfully, George Steinbrenner won't be here tonight. That would be a double entendre! Ricky runs down the card and gives out plugs and recoginition for his new sponsors, which included a karate dojo, a cell phone place and more. Ricky then introduces Prince Nana to the crowd.
Prince Nana came out and talked mad smack to the crowd. The crowd was on Nana hard tonight and let Nana hear it. Nana told the crowd to stand on their feet and respect the man from Africa. Crowd didn't oblige. Nana brings out Fred Sampson and K-Brawlik, and the JCW Nation of Domination was formed. This led to...

K-Brawlik d. Scotty Charisma
Is the charisma name supposed to be a joke? If not, Scotty didn't do a great job displaying charisma tonight. Brawlik has shaved his head and has added alot of muscle. He looks alot better than what he looked like in November. Brawlik hit a nice body press from the top rope in this match. This match was pretty short. Nana distracted the referee towards the end, and Fred Sampson entered the ring and hit an impactful and powerful powerslam on Scotty. Sampson then rolled Brawlik onto Charisma. Nana let the ref go back to his job. The ref turned around, saw Brawlik with his arm outreached on Charisma's chest and counted the 1-2-3. Ok match.
Fred Sampson has the look and potential to make a big name for himself on the indy scene. I think it's only a matter of time before his name is on the tip of every wrestling fan.

A match from Chikara was up next.
Mike Quackenbush/Icarus/Gran Akuma d. The Wildcards/Jigsaw
I feel like I've seen this match 70 times, as these guys have worked for alot of promotions doing the same type of match, which is usually considered the turyomon style. I know I misspelt that, but Microsoft Word doesn't have the correct spelling for turyomon. Team Quack got off a triple 10 punches to the head in three corners of the ring. Lots of unique offense in this match up, including a 6 man headlock and Icarus bulldogging everyone all at once. There was alot of good action in this match. Akuma hits a flipping powerbomb from the top rope to pick up the pinfall victory for his team. Nice little match.

Red Hot Russ w/Dana Dameson d. Mo Sexy
With Noel's retirement, the former Alexandra York clone had to find something to do, and she is now managing Red Hot Russ and Johnny Thunder in JCW. This was a basic wrestling match, with little excitement. Someone sitting next to me said it best, "When you hear a name like Mo Sexy, you think of a black pimp or an over the top white boy." Mo Sexy was neither. Russ looks good and continues to churn out decent matches time after time. Russ gets the pin by getting Mo Sexy in a school boy roll up, and having a fistful of tights.
POSTMATCH: Mo Sexy chases Dana Dameson off.

Damian Adams d. Dave Greco
This was a solid match, and I think this was one of Greco's better JCW performances in a while. Adams, who happens to be the SSCW Heavyweight champion, is another guy who just keeps getting better and better. I'm not 100%, but I think this was Greco's first match back at 100%, since having his knee operated on last year. Adams hit his superkick on Greco, but only got a 2 count. After some chain wrestling, out walked the SSCW Television champion, Kevin Matthews. Kevin Matthews had the SSCW TV belt with him. It should be noted that Kevin Matthews and JCW aren't on the best of terms, and this was Kevin Matthews's return to JCW. Matthews slowly walked around the ring. In the ring, Damian went for a pinfall on Greco. Greco kicked out at 2. Damian went to protest the slow count. Matthews takes his SSCW TV championship belt and KABONKS Dave Greco over the head with it. Damian Adams turns around, not knowing what went on. Adams sees a fallen Greco, and lays on top of him, and picks up the 1-2-3.
POSTMATCH: Greco gets out of the ring and heads to the back. Damian Adams looks bewildered. Kevin Matthews talks to the crowd of 400, with maybe 1/4 of the crowd knowing who he was. Crowd was booing Kevin hard though, for his actions in the match. Kevin goes to Damian and says we gotta represent SSCW. Adams still looks confused. Matthews goes to shake Adams hand, but instead wipes him out. It should also be noted that Kevin Matthews defeated Damian Adams for the very same SSCW TV title a year ago. Matthews puts the boots to Adams and kicks him out of the ring with ease.

Matthews gets the microphone and cuts a promo. He pretty much says that SSCW is a joke and the owner Carmine Sabia is a hermit who doesn't leave his house. He says Carmine and SSCW have alot in common with JCW fans, and that is that they are all losers. Talk about cheap heat lol, calling someone a loser. He says that SSCW inflates their attendance time and time again so he's not surprised that no SSCW fans are here. Kevin takes a shot at Carmine calling himself George Steinbrenner. Kevin says the SSCW TV title is meaningless and spits all over the belt. Kevin drops the belt and starts stomping away on it. He tells Carmine and SSCW that they are "Shut in and Shut out," and now it's time to Shut up. Kevin leaves, ending this unusual angle.
Just a few notes: Kevin Matthews was the last SSCW TV champion, but SSCW doesn't recoginize the championship for the time being. This was apparently a shoot. This wasn't it for Kevin Matthews though, keep reading for more.
Keep in mind that SSCW/JCW are joining up with NWS/IWF/BWO for a supershow on March 6th, so this could be the seeds of a war between SSCW/JCW. Either way, this was something very controversial, and while it went over the heads of 300 people in the audience, it might give JCW the buzz that it needs, as they have a string of 6-7 shows in a little less than 3 month time period.

Ryan Wing d. Tiger Mulligan
Ryan Wing is calling himself The Sure Thing. There is only one real Sure Thing in wrestling, and in JCW for that matter too, and that's John Shane. This match was a 5 minute quick bout, sticking to the K.I.S.S. theory. Wing wins with a trapped brain buster, or what Ma Viper called it, a stalling fisherman suplex without the hook.

For the JCW Womens Championship
(c) April Hunter d. Miss Kara
Yikes. Flat out and simply put, Kara doesn't belong in the ring with April in a wrestling match. Kara did hit some nice headscissors, but twice went for the Chyna cartwheel, that Molly Holly also uses, that made slow motion look faster than an olympic sprinter. Just looked fugly. Kara, who is actually a good manager, would probably be suited better against women wrestlers who aren't in the top echelon, like an April Hunter, like a Tracy Brooks etc. April hit some stiff victim kicks to Kara in this one. April also put Kara in the hitman backbreaker, but sadly, no elbowdrop from the middle rope followed. The finish saw April go to the top rope, blast Kara in the face with her right foot, then hit the headhunter for the pinfall. It's still amazing to see April use that move as a finisher, when a powerbomb or some power move would be more than suffice.

INTERMISSION
I finished all my beer so it was time for more, at the liquor shop down the road. Upon returning I needed to take a leak. This is where I run into Kevin Matthews and Danny Demanto. Kevin Matthews was in the bathroom with the SSCW TV Championship. Danny Demanto was filming this and said he'd let everyone see this on DOI TV. Look for this on DOI TV as soon as Demanto gets it ready. Anyway, Kevin Matthews takes the SSCW TV Title and puts it in a urinal. He then pisses on the belt. Keep in mind there was about 10 people in the bathroom with a few people waiting outside. Kevin pisses on the belt then flushes it in the urinal. Kevin said "FUCK Carmine, fuck his mother and fuck his grandmother," then stormed off.
NOTE: I just got finished talking to Kevin about his actions at JCW. He told me he would put a statement here on the DOI website. Check the main page, and we'll have it up as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, a karate demonstration was going on in the ring. Sort of like watching people have those races during halftime of a basketball game, this was your halftime show, even though the better show was in the bathroom, and I'm not talking about Mr. Fecal Threats.

Ricky O came out next. He introduced, Reno, his nephew as new JCW Commissioner. No more Fred The Elephant Boy I guess. I don't know if JCW will be able to rebound now lol. Ricky O says that Jay Lethal doesn't want to work for JCW no more. He says that Lethal has left JCW so that puts us in a quandry, as Jay Lethal is the JCW TV Champion. Ricky announces a 20 man battle royal, with the winner becoming the new JCW Television champion.
Note: I heard 2 sides of Jay Lethal story, and with everything else going on, it's probably easier to say that both sides couldn't come to an amicable working agreement.

For the JCW Heavyweight Championship
(c) Slyk Wagner Brown w/April Hunter d. Johnny Thunder w/Dana Dameson
Slyk is rocking the X-pac tights, with bright green and black going down his legs. I guess he's Slyk-pac now. Thunder busted Slyk's jaw up early, and blood poured out of Slyks mouth. Slyk hit his leg lariat and his slyk slam. Thunder worked his basic offense and had Slyk in a few submissions. Thunder went for a superkick towards the end of the match, but Slyk got out of the way. Slyk then went to hit a move, but Thunder ducked, and then went to go for another superkick, but this time hit Ref Garry. (Ref Garry actually got superkicked this time, as opposed to the phantom kick 2 months ago) During this time, April banged on the mat, while Dana waved to the crowd. Back in the ring, Thunder hit the emerald fusion on Slyk. All of a sudden, Nana's nation of domination, (Brawlik, Sampson and Nana) came out. They beat up Thunder. Slyk dazily wakes up and the same exact time as Ref Garry, and Slyk falls on top of Thunder for the 1-2-3. Good finish, but they did the same exact thing earlier in the show.
Match wasn't all that, but the story was there.
POSTMATCH: Nana offers Slyk "The Rock" spot in his Nation of Domination. Slyk says fuck no son, and Brawlik wipes Slyk out, while Nana beats up April Hunter. Should be an interesting feud. It also seems that Nana will have a big group, similar to his ECWA Royal Decision.

For the JCW Light Heavyweight Title
Loser Leaves JCW Match
(c) Shawn Sheridan and Damian Dragon w/Foxxy Dreams go to a no contest
Before the match, they announced no disqualifications. Amber Sheridan was also no where to be found. This was the blow off match of what seems like a year long feud, that had some stopping points. This match didn't seem to have the electricity it had when they wrestled in Paramus. A chair got involved early in this match, and Dragon did the drop toe hold onto the chair to Sheridan. Later on in the match, the referee gets lightly bumped out of the ring, which in wrestling, means massive blood flow from the head, Motivatorstyle. All of a sudden Big Sky and some other dude come out. Big Sky looks like Kevin Nash, and has the matching pants to match, which the "fans" in attendance let him know lol. These big motherfuckers hit a huge tombstone, followed up by a thrown powerbome onto Sheridan. Dragon and Foxxy look on in awe. Dave Greco then runs out to make the save. Greco then turns on Sheridan and finishes the job. Gotta be honest, didn't see that coming, good job by JCW for swerving the crowd. Bad job by JCW, as the referee wakes up and calls the match a no contest. If you announce no dq's, how can you have a no contest? Bad finish to a good match.

For the JCW Tag Team Championships
Ace Darling/Matt Striker d. The Hybrid (Inferno/Wenzel) to become new JCW Tag Team Champions
Wow gotta give it Striker. For someone who is supposed to be a singles wrestler, and a good one at that, he is a now a 4 promotion tag team champion, holding tag gold in USA Pro with Simon Diamond, holding PWF gold in WOrld 1 with Josh Daniels, being a former ECWA tag champion and now a JCW Tag champion with Darling. Impressive resume. This was a pretty decent tag match. HYbrid tend to use alot of the same offense The Solution uses, such as the kick to the head followed up by the gore double team. Darling/Striker win this match when Darling superkicks Wenzel into a Striker lungblower for the 3 count.
POSTMATCH: Ricky O comes out. He tells everyone that Inferno is going to OVW. Ricky puts over Inferno for all the hard work he's done for JCW. He wishes Inferno the best of luck. In a total swerve, out walks Geno Moore. Geno Moore puts over Inferno as well and wishes him the best of luck. Classy move. Geno then says he's here to talk about the upcoming supershow on March 6th with SSCW, JCW, IWF, BWO, and his promotion, NWS. Geno runs down some of the matches taking place. A Vicious Vin chant broke out in the balcony, which stopped Geno in the middle of his speech. Ricky O told the crowd that Steinbrenner won't be there, which got a hearty chuckle and a slap to the knee. Geno runs down the rest of the card and thanks the crowd.

20 Man Battle Royal for the JCW TV Title
I've now been working on this review for 2 1/2 hours. Fuck me. Let's do this short-form.
Wenzel won a 20 man battle royal to win the JCW TV Title.
Other participants were: Jimmy Hustler, J-Busta, K-Brawlik, Alere Little Feather, Demanto, Matthews, Mo Sexy, Nana, Inferno, Pinky Sanchez, Supreme Lee Great, Big Sky, Equalizer, Jack Off, Jerk Off, Wack Off, and the other Off Brother.
It came down to Wenzel and Inferno. After about 4 minutes or so of trying to wear each other out, Inferno went to clothesline Wenzel over the top rope, sending both of them over the top but with Wenzel grabbing the ropes, while Inferno hit the floor. Good choice as champion, but it was kind of obvious that Wenzel was going to win when it came down to him and Inferno.

Bam Bam Bigelow/Chris Candido d. Prince Nana/Kamala in the main event
Match seemed rushed, as it was only about 5 minutes long. Crowd seemed amped for this one though. I was suprised nothing to hype this match occured on the show before it went on. Candido wraps up Prince Nana for the pinfall win.

Final McWord
Overall, not the best quality JCW show I've seen, but easily the most attended and most succesful JCW show that I've seen. I was glad to see JCW do good as JCW had more things going against it, then it had going for it, going into the show. JCW stepped up to the plate and hit it out of the park. While the show didn't feature 9 pure wrestling matches, like JCW shows of old, it did feature a lively atmosphere, something that hasn't been in JCW for a while. It seems JCW has some new sponsors, and whatever JCW did for this show, I'd keep it up as it looks to be successful.

From watching this show, JCW needs to beef up their womens division badly. If the women title is supposed to be taken seriously, better opposition should be used. With The Hybrid finished, JCW needs to either bring back The Solution, The DRS and The CSC or find tag teams immediately, as the current crop outside of Striker/Darling isn't too hot.

Slyk vs Nana should be an interesting feud.

Quick Notes:
Look for Kevin Matthews statement about SSCW on the DOI main page shortly.
I counted a little less than 450 people at the show, but didn't account for people in the merchandise/front area. JCW reported 500+ and while all promotions tend to bump up attendance numbers, it seemed to be legit.
Pictures of the show and the huge crowd is on the DOI message board for naysayers.
Despite any heat between SSCW and JCW, both will be part of Geno Moore's supershow on March 6th.

JCW Returns on March 6th.
For more JCW News go to http://www.jcwwrestling.com
Keep checking the DOI site in the upcoming days for all upcoming JCW shows, card listings and news, as I haven't got everything from JCW, besides a show that they are running on April 24.

For anyone who missed the show, I'd encourage them to check out the next one, as JCW seems to have gotten their fire back.

Congratulations to JCW on their rebirth.
