What's up everyone and welcome to another McReview, here on the DOI. JAPW returned to St. Josephs in Carteret, NJ for another benefit/charity show, after debuting at the venue in May of this year. While in May the crowd wasn't as big as previous JAPW shows, the attendance was stellar and the fans got a solid night of wrestling. The summertime is a hard time for indy promoters, especially in Jersey, when there are so many other entertainment options. That is why usually JAPW takes off during the summer, but they decided to do this show for the charity. I think that is why some people might consider this show a "filler" or "B-show" as it seems that future JAPW line-ups in September/October will blow this show away. But, for a summer night out, JAPW gave the fans a solid effort.
JAPW
7/21
From: Carteret, NJ

Ring Announcer: Mike Lewis
Attendance: 350+
The show opened up with JAPW promoter Fat Frank warming up the crowd. Frank got the crowd hyped and plugged the next two JAPW dates (9/8 & 10/27, both in Rahway). After pumping up the crowd, we had our first match of the night.
Monsta Mack & Havok d. Wes Draven & Pinkie Sanchez
This was a squash match, but a good spirited one. Some wrestlers try to get at least one or two of their spots in when they are getting squashed, but not in this case. Mack/Havok, who've teamed before in other places, debuted their team in JAPW here and I thought Draven/Pinkie did a good job of getting them over.
The match started with two power spots, Havok & Mack threw Pinkie & Wes into each other, as Pinkie & Wes were in a leap frog position. The crowd popped for that. Havok & Mack then followed that up by gorilla press slamming both members into each other, for another pop. Havok then hit a fall away slam on Pinkie from the top rope, nearly ending Pinkie's life. Mack then hit a huge lariat on Draven. From there, it was all she wrote, as Havok/Mack hit the Doomsday Device on Pinkie, with Mack playing the role of Hawk. Easy squash win for the former JAPW Tag Team Champions, albeit with different partners. (Papadon w/Havok & Mafia w/Monsta Mack).
I enjoyed this match and thought it was a good way to open the show. It got everyone hyped from the get-go and gave the show a bang from the start. It should be interesting to see what Mack/Havok do from here.
The SAT's (Jose & Joel Maximo) d. Style & Finesse (Mike Donovan & Rob Vegas)
The SAT's got a humongous pop. It was one of the loudest pops I heard for them in a while. Huge "SAT" & "WELCOME BACK" chants. I haven't seen Style & Finesse in a while and was pleasantly surprised to see them in professional looking gear. They looked like worthy opponents for the SAT just on their entrance/ring attire alone.
SAT's were hot from the start hitting several quick dropkicks & chops to start. Rob Vegas looked to take a break, but the SAT's kept on top of him.
Eventually, Style & Finesse got some offense as Donovan hitting a running suplex on Jose, which made Joel react with a huge kick to the back of Donovan. Joel tagged in and hit a moonsault.
Later on in the match, Donovan/Vegas hit a double superkick on Joel for a near 3, as Jose broke up the pin. Vegas then wound up becoming a victim of the Spanish Fly (a tough feat, as the ropes looked wobbly & loose all night). Everyone thought the match was over, but Donovan broke up the pin attempt. However, Jose was able to put Donovan in a sunset flip position and pinned him in the corner of the ring for the win.
This was a fun and solid tag team match. The Spanish Fly false finish was well done. The finish at the end looked off a bit, as Donovan was too close to the ropes and perhaps even on them, but I don't think anyone minded.
La Familia (EC Negro & Bandido Jr.) d. Deranged & Dan McGuire
Dan McGuire is from Kevin Knight's IWF school, and also goes by the name of Dan Eckos in ECWA. I found it amusing that Dan was at this show, rather than the IWF show on 7/21. For some reason it seems that every IWF wrestler stays there for a year, gets sick of Kevin Knight and blows IWF off for good. There are plenty of examples of this, but that's a story for another time.
La Familia was up early in this match, until Deranged hit a huge headscissors on Negro. McGuire tagged in and hit 3 beautiful clotheslines on Bandido. That's one thing about the IWF guys, they do get a fundamental and solid background, but once that 1-2 years are up, most of them bolt the hell out of there.
Negro would eventually take out McGuire, while Deranged hit an impressive Asai moonsault to the floor. Later on, back in the ring, Deranged hit a reverse hiptoss on Bandido. Deranged then hit a huge springboard Kojicutter. McGuire then went on offense, but it wasn't for too long. Bandido took out McGuire, setting him up for a huge Brolic Buffalo Leg Drop (Leg drop from the top rope) from EC Negro for the 1-2-3.
Good outing for all four guys. I do question doing three back-to-back-to-back tag team bouts, as this match didn't get as loud as a reaction as the other two tag matches did. McGuire had a good JAPW debut. I'd like to see Deranged mix it up in the Jersey State championship scene. Negro & Bandido don't look natural to me as a team. It was good for what it was though.
For the Jersey State Championship
(c) The Grim Reefer d. Danny Demanto
Reefer, as usual, got a great reaction once he stepped through the curtain. The guys started off early with quick submissions and counters. After going back and forth for a while, Reefer caught Danny in his jaws of life with a kick. Later on, Danny tumbled to the floor, only to become a victim of a Reefer frogsplash while on the ground.
A funny spot while on the floor, during the match saw Reefer grab a fan's foam finger and poke Danny in the eye with it. Little things like that always get pops.
Back in the ring, Danny hit a release fisherman . Danny then went for a hogsplash but there was no water in the pool. Reefer hit his patented left lariat then went for the Chronic Crossface. Danny made his way to the ropes to break the hold.
In the later stages of the match, Reefer hit a piledriver out of the corner. Danny was down but not out. Danny took Reefer down and went for a moonsault of the top, but like the hogsplash, there was no water in the pool or food at the chinese buffet. Reefer then went for the crossface again and this time Danny tapped. I was debating making a Benoit joke but I even found it tasteless here. Those sensitivity classes must be paying off.
This was another good match on the show. I think this may be the best Reefer/Danny match I've ever seen, as I've seen plenty of them. Danny was toned down a bit in this match, as I know I was disappointed that I didn't see him flip through a chair. Reefer was wrestling this match with an injured heel which is why he didn't do alot of his high flying stuff. However, the two had a good in-ring match which is what wrestling is all about.
INTERMISSION
This was one of JAPW's longest intermissions to date, as fans lined up to get autographs with Gail Kim and the Niggataker. Yes I said the Niggataker. He was in the house signing autographs for the local children. I just wonder how some of these kids are going to explain to their parents why they have the word "Niggataker" on their clothes/hats/etc.
Alicia w/Johnny D. d. Gail Kim
Both girls got good heat to start, as they posed for the crowd. Despite being a JAPW regular, Alicia was on the tail end of many boos, as the crowd popped for Gail Kim. For the first time, that I've seen, a TNA girl got a huge pop on an indy show. I think it might also have something to do with Gail being a former WWE star, as much as she's a current TNA star.
Gail started the match off with a huge lucha style armdrag, using the top rope for assistance. Alicia would slow Gail's flow, and had some help with Johnny D. choking Gail on the bottom rope, perhaps loosening the bottom rope a bit. Gail would fire back, only to have Johnny D slap her right across the mouth, setting up Alicia for the quick roll-up victory.
Decent womens match. I thought the finish was perfect, because it kept Alicia as a strong heel for JAPW and left open the possibility of a future rematch. However, the JAPW womens division is non-existent and it does seem that Alicia is the female Goldberg right now.
THE ULTIMATE RUMBLE MATCH
Rules: To be eliminated, you could either be thrown over the top rope, pinned or tap out. Entrants came in at different timed intervals, although I don't think that was part of the rules. At one point it would be 90 seconds, another point 30 seconds, etc, which I think was just done to speed up the match.
The winner of the match would go on to wrestle Low Ki in the main event for the JAPW Title.

18./19. Archadia & Azraiel went over at the ame time (think Luger/Hart 1994 Royal Rumble) and were declared co-winners.
News & Notes from the Ultimate Rumble Match:
- Havok/Mack were built up as a huge wrecking force, obliterating everything in their wake. The rumble established them as shitkickers, whichw as good.
- Archadia iron-manned it, going the distance.
- The bottom rope broke during the match, but was tightened up by ring officials & refs during the battle royal.
- Alicia eliminated the most amount of people, but most of the eliminations were sneaky ones, as she'd sneak up behind two guys and push them over.
- Lots of new faces in this battle royal, and all worked hard.
- Mo Sextyn appeared to blow out his knee, but I can't confirm that.
- The major talk of the match was a shoot incident between EC Negro & Alicia. I've talked to JAPW and the wrestlers involved, and from what I got, Negro forearmed Alicia first. Alicia responded with several chops and a bitchslap to the face, that "oohed" & "aahed" the crowd. That set Negro off and Negro started shoot forearming her back. Johnny D, realizing what was going on immediately jumped up to the apron and started swinging at Negro. Danny Demanto then grabbed Negro, and started wrestling him in the corner, and got him away from Alicia. Alicia was able to get in one "donkey punch" shot on Negro after he teed off on her. The heat all stems from Negro & Alicia's personal lives from a few years back.
From what I saw personally saw, I didn't see Negro's forearms to start the incident, but both Negro and JAPW confirmed that he did it. However, the forearms didn't look rough to me, although others disagree. Johnny D definitely went
to town on Negro, defending her. It was the first time that I saw Johnny D go nuts at ringside, as I've seen him personally take care of problems outside of the ring. You could see the fire in his eyes and knew something was going on.
As far as what happens here is anyone's guess. JAPW has a natural built-in angle here with Negro. However, this is not the first time Negro has had an incident in JAPW, so if he's not back on the next show it wouldn't be too hard to figure out why. In some situations, you really can't reward shoot stuff with big pushes either, as it just encourages it.
My opinion on the whole matter is that anytime a girl is in the ring with the guys, you have to tough it up. Luna Vachon tells plenty of stories where the guys would fuck her up to test her or if she blew a spot. Then again, Alicia didn't blow a spot, and EC Negro isn't anyone in JAPW to be testing people. From what I saw, it seemed that Alicia stiffed him first and he retaliated. It's something to watch on DVD for sure.
While this may be cold, I think alot of these girl/guy incidents you hear about is because most of the girls you can connect with the guys, which is natural. In Hollywood, many actors/actresses are linked and in wrestling it is no different. Unlike Hollywood, in wrestling you have to deal with ex's on a daily basis and do business with them, while in Hollywood those situations don't happen. This was just a bad incident, but nothing I'd deem too serious. Like I said above though, while Negro might not be 100% guilty here, it could be one too many incidents for him in JAPW.
As a result of all this, Alicia left the ring with Johnny D, eliminating herself from the match. Demanto then got himself eliminated quickly, presumably so he could share a Fribble in the back with Alicia.
- With Archadia & Azraiel going out at the same time, Fat Frank declared them co-winners, and both moved on into the main event.
MAIN EVENT
For the JAPW Heavyweight Title
(c) Low Ki d. Azraiel & Archadia in a Triple Threat Match
This was a pretty short main event, considering the talent in it. In the beginning, Azraiel & Low Ki went at it with ferocious chops, while Archadia, who was in the rumble from the beginning, watched on and got a breather. Later on Ki started kicking away at everyone. One spot in the match saw Archadia laying on the top rope. I thought Ki & Azraiel
were gonna go for double stomps but it wasn't meant to be. Instead, Low Ki sprung off one rope and kicked Azraiel off the other corner.
Towards the end of the match, Low Ki took out Azraiel with a huge running drop kick. With Azraiel out of the picture, Low Ki hit his double stomp from the top on Archadia, picking up the clean pinfall victory.
Final McWord
This was a pretty decent show. It wasn't your typical JAPW show, but it was a fun night out. Alot of good things happened- new guys were established, new teams were debuted, the charity made alot of money, JAPW had a great outing and more hype was built up for the next two shows.
I think the Havok/Mack have potential as a team. As far as match of the night the main event was the best match to me.
Overall
A good show to keep things flowing going into the fall.
JAPW returns to Rahway on 9/8 and with their 10th anniversary show on 10/27.
