Got there around 6 with Mr. Myers. Finished a 6 pack to cool down in the hot 195 degree Elks Lodge. Went with Mr. Dexter Weiner to get some more beer and some healthy KFC. KFC have these new honey barbeque chicken for 2.99. Not bad, and it goes well with a bottle of Becks. After a few more beers the show finally started, and here is how it went down.
Drew Blood/Devan Moore d. Los Boriquas
Not the match I’d open a show with. The Elks loved Los Boriquas, due to their Puerto Rican gimmick, and the fact that ½ the crowd are Puerto Ricans. Drew Blood and Devan Moore are ok together, but seem just bland to me. There is no character to them at times, and it’s hard to rally behind them. Los Boriquas have been getting better in recent matches. Drew Blood and Devan Moore get the win in this match after a quick pin that came from no where.
Striker d. Eddie Guapo
Not as good as their last match at the March 15th ICW show. Striker is one of the top wrestlers today in the indies. Guapo is a great wrestler, but I know a lot of people around me weren’t thrilled with his performance. Halfway during the match, I was pointed out to some oriental poon-tang that was laying out of her skirt in the top row of the Elks. Nice. It was still a decent match, that featured a lot of mat wrestling. Striker did that double knee to the back from the top and the crowd loved it. Guapo countered with some great suplexes. As the match got rolling it got better and we saw a great submission finish by Striker, as he wrapped up Guapos legs with his, and bridged back while holding his head.
POST MATCH: Striker and Guapo reconcile, and this would play up later on in the show.
Monsta Mack d. Boogalou w/Low Ryda
An ok match, that would have been better if it was longer, because we got no Van Mackinator tonight, and that move is off the hook and a sight to see. Some brawling mixed with wrestling in this bout took place. Finish saw Monsta Mack get the win when Low Ryda interfered. Not a fan of DQ finishes, but if it leads to a Mack/Ryda match, that should be good.
POST MATCH: Low Ryda and Boogalou pound the shit out of Monsta Mack. All of a sudden, Boogie Knights ran out, and Jimmy James creamed his pants at the sight of Mike Tobin and Danny Drake. After that, Boogie Knights hit the ring and cleared house, leaving BK and Mack in the ring. BK acknowledge their respect for what Monsta Mack has done in the business and for the guy he is. If everyone did that, you would need a ring the size of the White House. Anyway, Mack and BK are cool with each other, and we move on.
Solution w/Miss Michelle d. Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz (Not Scoundrals, as spelt everywhere else)
Mike Zevon needs to stop popping everytime DRS do something. LoL j/k Mikey had to throw that in there, as you know people will get mad that you are vocal during a match. This match was the best tag team match on the show, which is saying a lot, because a lot of tag team matches occurred on this show. The DRS played the face role, yet again, which works for them, but I think they are better heels. Lots of solid mat wrestling, and even aerobatics, as Negro jumped from the top rope impressively, onto both members of The Solution . Finish saw Miss Michelle get on the apron and slap EC Negro a few times. This was a short enough distraction for the Solution to capitalize and defeat the DRS after hitting the Problem Solver. First PAW match of the night.
POST MATCH: DRS are pissed off about losing. EC Negro throws a chair, not a steel chair mind you, a fucking hard ass chair you would find in a classroom, and kabonked Havok in the fucking face. Man that had to hurt more than a candy cane from Mike Tyson. Crowd was hot during this whole entire match and ending, showing why the DRS and Solution are 2 of the best tag teams in the indies today.
Mafia d. Johnny Ova, Dan Barry, Azraiel in a 4-Way Dance
The match started off as Ova, Barry and Azraiel in a 3 way. The match was pretty solid, but you can’t expect anything less from those guys. Mafia ran down during the match, and was added into the match. Ok hold up here. Deranged and Shawn Sheridan are watching the show but not even on the show? Wouldn’t adding Deranged/Sheridan, who have a similar size and style produce a better match? Adding Deranged/Sheridan would make this match fantastic, and get the crowd to appreciate some great wrestling. Not to knock Mafia, I just think Mafia deserves better and could rock the house in a singles match, say with Samoa Joe, since he was in the audience, instead of coming out and squashing these three. Mafia is another guy on the brink of superstardom, and everyone knows that, so having Mafia squash all these guys does nothing but rain shit with corn in it on Ova, Barry and Azraiel. We know Mafia is good. This would be like Brian Kendrick v. Paul London v. Rey Misterio having a great WWE Cruiser title match, and out comes Brock Lesnar to destroy all three, killing a great match, and doing nothing in the long run, as everyone knows Brock is a dominant wrestler. Same thing happened here. Anyway back to the match, Mafia comes out and destroys these three guys. He finally hits the burning hammer on Everyone’s Favorite Wrestler, Dan Barry, and picks up the easy 1-2-3. Like I said, I know Mafia kicks ass, but why ruin a great match for a squash?
Jac Sabboth comes out, and puts himself on the show. Why? Harry Slash was the on-air character, and doing a fantastic job with it, so now we got 2 people in authority on the show. What is with people who run shows, trying to put themselves over for no reason at all? Prince Nana comes out, and insults the crowd like usual. Gotta love Nana on the stick. After Nana leaves, this segment still continues, as we get introduced to the 3rd authority figure, El Shoes, who is the new ICW Commissioner. Hello, anyone ever see 3 non wrestlers all in authority roles? Jesus Christ, stick to the wrestling, and not the talking, that does NOTHING at all for the show. No one cares about a Sabboth vs El Shoes match, except for 3 people on the USA Pro Message Board. Anyway all this talking drivel leads to a match with Danny Demanto, Tim Arson and Damian Dragon. In reality, El Shoes re-instated these three guys into ICW, after Slash/Sabboth publically fired them. What I am thinking, after 20 beers at this point is why Slash/Sabboth would hire El Shoes to be a commissioner, if he is just going to overrule and overturn Sabboth/Slash decisions. I mean that’s a shitty hiring job right there, you know? All I got out of this segment is wow, 3 authority figures, and about 20 great wrestlers in the crowd, who weren’t booked, who could have used the 10 minutes this segment was given 100 times better. Anyway, Damian and Demanto look like they are aligned and go after Sabboth, but Tim Arson defends Sabboth, showing how much hotline works really suck. Arson beats up these two for a bit. I think Arson is a great wrestler, but this was a dumb angle. Same goes for Damian. Demanto, while not the best wrestler in the universe, always gives 100% and is a company man, and this was a crappy segment and unfair to him as well. Maybe I’m being too harsh, but when you have a lot of beer you want to see some ‘rasslin’ not tea time talk.
After all that crap, we finally go to the match that I was most anticipating.
Grim Reefer d. Chris Hamrick
FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC. Match of the night, until a match that would take place later on. PAW. This match was crazy and featured all of Reefers signature spots. When Reefer is on, there is no stopping him. Chris Hamrick is a great wrestler, and tonight continued that thought, as he was all over the place, from the ring, to the outside to the top ropes. Some great wrestling mixed in with some high spots, such as Reefer hitting a Frog Splash from the stage/entranceway onto Hamrick laying on the tiled floor. That was brutal. I think the right man won this match, as this helps Reefers career. Reefer gets the win a top rope DDT, must be seen to be believed. Kudos to both men in this one.
POST MATCH: Hamrick looks like he is going to embrace with Reefer, but changes his mind and kicks the crap out of Reefer. Hamrick follows up with a HOLY SHIT, a top rope piledriver straight to the mat. Man, that looked unforgiving. Crowd is going nuts and was hot the whole time. Hell if it leads to another match between these two, I’m happy.
We go to intermission, and load up on some more beer.
Holy shit who the fuck is that? Tim Arson with Boobs? (Credit Pyscho) A crosseyed Triple H? (Credit the guy in the beer line) No it’s neither of them, it’s Nicole Bass. Jesus is she freaky looking up close. Glad to see she is healthy again. Anyway she cuts a promo that was inaudible at times, because people all over the elks were saying what the hell is that? This leads to the CSC coming out and trading barbs with Nicole. Out come the Back Seat Boys and we got a match…
Christopher Street Connection (Mace and Buffy) and the Backseat Boys (Trent Acid and Johnny Kashmere) went to a draw after the metric time limit expired
Crowd was really hot in this one. To echo my DOI partner, this match gave a second wind to the crowd, after the boring Nicole Bass interview. Some great wrestling again in this match, but what else would you expect? CSC and BSB looked really good. Gotta give props to ICW for using all the best tag teams in the indies, as I am a huge fan of tag team wrestling. The time limit expired as BSB were looking like they were going to win over the CSC. Decent bout.
Got to mention at various points in the show Striker/Guapo, who aligned at the end of their match were doing a Girls Gone Wild Type of thing. They even got this chick to undress in her bra and panties. Guapo as the tape recorder was hilarious, and Striker is outstanding. He can do anything in any role in wrestling, it's amazing how entertaining he can make something. I hope this is the start of a push for Guapo too, as when he's on, there's nothing stopping him from achieving the best.
Xavier d. Prince Nana to retain the ICW Northeast Title
Excellent match, which consisted of two fine tuned wrestlers. Superb match here, and the crowd loved it. During the match, 4 rowdy youngersters, who looked a lot like Mafia, Mack, Low Ki and Samoa Joe were all giving the “X” sign with the hands. These energetic rousers would do it from all over the building, and even have some in the crowd doing the X. Xavier finally got the win here after a great match.
POST MATCH: Tim Arson and Jac Sabboth come out to beat up Xavier with Nana. Nana/Arson/Sabboth are The Dynasty. Xavier was a member of the Dynasty back in the UCW days. Nana has taken it over, because hell, being a prince in a country, is better and more superior than owning a promotion. This group can be interesting, if Nana does all the talking, and we don’t have to hear inaudible promos for 20 minutes. Nana/Arson tag team should be interesting too if it happens.
Spanish Announce Team aka Maximo Brothers d. The Boogie Knights
Another solid tag match. Thank you ICW for booking the best tag teams. I thought BK should have won, because they are loyal guys, and have been with UCW/ICW for a while. This would be a big win for them. Anyway, Boogie Knights have jumped like 434 levels since Drake’s return. From great matches with The Solution , The DRS and now the SAT, it looks like BK is on the verge of breaking out and dominating every indy promotion that books them. Kudos to BK from rebounding astronomically when it looked like they would be down and out. SAT were the normal SAT here, and looked decent. The Spanish Fly was teased, but didn’t go off. SAT get the win after a great showing of wrestling via pinfall.
Abdullah The Butcher d. Low Life Louie Ramos
Dissapointing. I might get heat for this, but Abby looked like he could give a fuck less about his opponent. Lots of blood in this match. Low Life Louie never gives you less than his 100% best, and today was no different. I am fortunate to know Louie personally, and I was upset with this match, because it looked like Abby had no respect for him. Louie is the King of Hardcore Wrestling right now, and until someone steps into that ring and out performs him, Louie is synonomous with fantastic hardcore wrestling. Anyway, Abby wins after some weaponery. HOLD UP! I know ICW has no control over the performance, but WHY THE FUCK DID ABBY WIN? Abby winning this match does NOTHING for him. Abby is a legend. Abby is a god of hardcore wrestling. While Abby is definitely not in his prime and have seen better matches before, he still is one of the last living legends walking today. Winning this match, does not help his career. However, if Louie won this match, that DOES help his career, and SOLIDIFIES Louie as the new sheriff in town. Why the fuck Louie did not win this match, is something I would like to find out, because a lot of people talk about the USA Goodman/ICW Sabboth treatment of Louie, and this did nothing but extend that and make those posts and talk seem legit. Louie winning this would have been huge and a great way to make new feuds, saying he beat a legend, and he’s the new hardcore legend. Now, he just lost the match, and couldn’t beat a guy 60 years older than him, and gives him no where to go in ICW. Well at least USA Pro uses Louie right.
For The ICW Title
Justin Credible d. Mikey Whipwreck
For some reason I could not get into this match, and it seemed that others agreed with me. Maybe it was the foul taste of Louie’s match, or the stale beer, but I think I was more hyped up for Lynn/Homicide than this. I guess ICW was too, as Lynn/Homicide would be the main event, not this match for the most prestigious belt in ICW. This match was short but effective and good. Credible picks up the pinfall victory.
Jerry Lynn d. Homicide
Your PAW match of the night, and one of the better matches I’ve seen in a while. I’ve said it a thousand times, and I’ll say it again, Homicide is the best wrestler not to work in TNA or WWE. If I owned my own promotion and looking to get some respect and exposure, Homicide is the first guy I would sign. He is that good. Everything he does makes sense and has reason to it. On the other hand you got Jerry Lynn, who is maybe the most underrated and underpushed wrestler of our time. The way these two wrestlers career have gone, it parallels disturbingly. Lynn never got the push or time he deserved and Homicide is not getting the bookings or belts that he deserves. While belts are used as tools, some are still respected and Homicide deserves the chance to run with the ball from the opposite foul line, run down the court and slam the ball down the fucking basket. Words do not do this match justice, let’s just say it was a great fucking match and is a reason I’m a fan of wrestling. Lynn gets the win after a cradle piledriver.
Final McWord
Better show than last time. Lots of people in the crowd tonight, so here are some luminaries (looks like someone else created that word and don’t want me using it, but I don’t give a fuck) who showed up:
Wayne, Ricky O, Sheridan, Low Ki, Samoa Joe, Deranged, The Elm Street Kids, Dickie Rodz, Southern Vinny Stylin, Johnny Bison Bravado, Masked Maniac, Masked Maniacs biggest fan Jimmy James, Kevin Matthews, Tara Charisma, Kenneth Scampi, J-Kronik (Please read Mike’s ICW piece about the last 4, they really got the show ready and I applaud them for that), All Money is Legal, Josh Deely, The (un)Motivator and more that I am forgetting. But shit, imagine just having a show with the wrestlers in the crowd? We also had personalities such as Matt Zombie, Anthony DiBlasi, The Wizard of Buns and The Wizard of Brains, 2/3 DRS fans/chicks whose names I already forgot my bad, The Derangeder Crew, who are always cool, Frank Goodman, Dexter Weiner, Fat Bastard who was on better behavior than me lol, JC The Damager, Future Indy Superstar Brian Myers, BiGTiMe, Jason (Don’t call me Bill) Goldberg, Jen, and a lot more people who I forgot so my bad.
I liked a lot of the matches on the show, so the positives were lots of great matches, top notch talent and bottom line, and enjoyable show. The only bad things I didn’t like was the Louie finish and the Sabboth speech that could hardly be heard. Everything else was mostly solid. I had a great time as usual, and always enjoy seeing the familiar faces in the Elks. Thanks to Jay for holding it down again tonight. I always have a great time hanging out with The DOI family, even Marc, so that was good too. Gotta give a huge thanks and props to Manslaughter for the t-shirts.
ICW runs again I think on September 13th, for it’s huge ICW I-Cup, a tournament featuring the top tag teams in the indies. It seems like every ICW show has the best tag teams anyway, so this should be great. Keep checking the DOI site for more info on the I-Cup as it comes along.
Hope to see you guys on bus trips and I’ll see you all at ROH and USA PRO.
Until next time this is The MiC-
