Hey, and this is Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey with the ICW 5/15 Review from the Elks Lodge, and I’m pissed off cause the city bent me over and inserted their power into my rectum for $185 for illegal parking. Thank you to Mr. Wizard Sr. for bailing me out.
Well after my incident, it was off to ICW for what looked to be a great card on paper. On paper it was a solid line up, but for some reason, maybe because the crowd was small or there was a lot of talent watching the show, then wrestling in the show, or that there was a lot of beer flowing, but the show just came off average, in my opinion.
Johnny TNT d. Taka Sheeta
Get it, like Take a shit! Oh the hilarity! Anyway this match was short and inoffensive, but didn’t really do anything for me, but head to the beer line. Crowd didn’t think so either.
Brian XL d. Angel Maximo Jr after a spinning version of the ace-crusher
The ropes were very tight and slick tonight, and this match suffered from that the most. A lot of proven wrestlers got a little stuck on the super slick ropes, and the rookie Angel was a victim of the ropes too. (But not in a Slingblade Carl way) Angel “blew” two spots illiciting a chant of “YOU FUCKED UP.” Personally, I don’t engage in those chants, as I can not do what they are doing, but I guess it was rightfully deserved, as if you can’t run the ropes properly, you probably shouldn’t be jumping off of them. Brian XL did a fantastic job with this match, and despite the mistakes, he made Angel look like a formidable opponent. Brian XL could be used better.
Ken Scampi w/Tara Charisma and Mega d. Eddie Guapo
Fresh from his DOI interview, Eddie Guapo got defeated by Ken Scampi after a sick trapped brainbuster. Guapo took a sick ass head bump, after giving Scampi a sick ass missle dropkick. Decent match, but the outside interference from Mega and Tara wasn’t needed. Tara looked good, and played the manager role very well, and probably the best I’ve seen her on the outside. Mega being there made sense, as they were celebrating after the match, for a long time, enough time to finish 2 more beers, that it set up….
Prince Nana d. Mega
On the heels of their ECWA dissention, these two guys slugged it out and Nana worked a great match as usual. This was probably one of Mega’s better matches that I’ve seen, as I think Nana and Mega just naturally click together. Nana won after a version of a splash.
Ref Hanson then came out to what would be the biggest pop of the night, up to this point. Talk about fan respect for one of the best referees on the indy scene today. Being a ref, albeit once, I know it’s hard, and Hanson is definitely in the upper-echelon of refs.
For the USA PRO Tag Team Championships
Dirty Rotten Scoundrelz d. All Money is Legal and Drew Blood/Kevin Moore
Why were USA titles defended at an ICW show? More in this in the Final McWord, but seriously, why not create ICW tag titles, and get away from USA pro. I understand you needed their license to run the show, but ICW should be ICW, and not worry about defending other companies championships. Blood/Moore looked good here, in one of the few times I’ve seen them work. AMIL was good as usual. I know a lot of people think I pull for the DRS a lot, but the truth is, they were great in this match and their heel tactics had the crowd going, and the crowd wanted them to get pounded all night. (So did one of the rats! lol) DRS get the win after a spiked brainbuster on Blood.
Grim Reefer d. Mike Mayhem after a running top rope swanton bomb
Great match here. Reefer has been turning it up, and don’t count Mike Mayhem out, as he’s been having good matches as well. Reefer is really moving up and is one of the greater wrestlers today, even when the ropes are too slick. Mayhem is another solid athlete capable of having a good match with anyone. PAW.
Boogie Knights w/Exctasy d. Solution w/Miss. Michelle
2 PAW matches back to back. I didn’t know if it was possible, but this match was better, in my opinion, then their first match at the March ICW show. Boogie Knights haven’t missed a beat since Drake’s injury, and you couldn’t even tell he was injured. Solution are one of the best top teams on the indies and tonight just re-affirmed that statement. BK win after a quick schoolboy roll up, which saw the Solution protest to no avail, like my parking ticket lol.
Intermission. More beer. Hey, beer is always a plus to have at any show, and I encourage the beer vendors to have a better selection than Scudweiser and Miller Bites. Anyone ever hear of Heineken?
Guillotine LeGrande cuts an inaudible promo, basically trying to get the Maximos/SAT over as heels. That’s not going to work when, 1) The Elks Lodge is a pro-SAT crowd and 2) The Maximo family is sitting ringside cheering for the SAT loudly. This led to
SAT d. CSC
Good match here by both teams. They tried to book it face vs heel, but it still wind up being face vs face. CSC hit all their signature spots to the fans delight. SAT got the win out of nowhere, which brought all the ICW Tag Teams- BK, Solution, DRS, AMIL, andBlood/Moore to brawl in the ring. Maybe an ICW Tag belt can be created, with all these great tag teams, instead of using USA’s.
For the PWF Womens Title
Simply Luscious d. Alexis Laree to become the new champion Again, another promotions championship gets defended, and this time changes hands. Great womens match by both workers. Laree has been having good matches w/all opponents and Luscious improves every time she gets in the ring.
For the ICW Super Junior Title
Alexis Laree d. Billy Reil, to become new champion. The match was Joey Matthews vs Reil the whole match, in what was a good little match. The ending saw a ref bump, Matthews laying out Reil, and Laree laying on top of Reil, for the awaken ref to count 3. After the match, Harry Slash, ICW Booker, said this title change was legit, and that Alexis was the new champ. He also promised Billy Reil a rematch for the championship, in a one on one bout w/Alexis at a future ICW show. Interesting angle here.
For the ICW North East Title
Xavier d. Johnny Kashmere
Another PAW match, and the match of the night for me. Great match by both men. Xavier is one of the best today, and Kashmere isn’t shabby either. I honestly didn’t take notes for this match, as it was too great to look away from. Good job by both guys.
Monsta Mack/Chris Hamrick d. Carnage Crew, Loc/Devito after a MackFrogSplash
Good match here which saw the men go through tables. At one point, Mack hit his new move, the Van Mackinator. When there’s another 275 pound plus guy, who can jump from one side of the ring to the other, let me know, because until then, Mack is the most agile guys for his size. Great match here, and the crowd loved it.
Red d. Trent Acid
I thought the match didn’t live to the hype and expectations. I honestly didn’t know what I was expecting, but I knew it wasn’t this, as there were a lot of basic moves in this match. It was still a good match and the crowd loved it, but I was focusing on my beer like a true alky, then on the match.
For the PWF and ICW World Heavyweight Titles
ICW Champion Justin Credible d. PWF Champion Steve Corino, Homicide and Jerry Lynn to win both championships
Great match here. Homicide replacing Whipwreck was a smooth move, as Homicide is the best indy wrestler in the Northeast area today. And the people he’s trained reads as a who’s who list of indy wrestling. Homicide d. Jerry Lynn, then Corino d. Homicide, and Credible pinned Corino after two that’s incredibles to win both belts. PAW match here, and unfortunately, the crowd didn’t give it the ovation it deserved.
Final McWord
Eh. There were some good matches on the show, but nothing that made the sow stand out. The building wasn’t as packed as I thought it was going to be. I don’t understand why defend other promotions championships, without establishing your own first. There was a lot of great talent in the crowd, that I would’ve booked, over the first two matches. With guys like Johnny Ova, Dan Barry and Deranged who are great, superb WRESTLERS (I won’t put cruiserweight in front of it, as I think that would be a bad term, as they can wrestle anyone, any style) in the crowd doing nothing but reading DOI all day (LoL had to throw that in there), that was a missed opportunity by ICW. No talking segments either, which was good as the show as a little over 4 hours long. It was great seeing all the great people who go to these shows, from Mikey Z, to Fat Bastard to Derangeder to Manslaughter to Black Heart to Bison to Mr. Weiner to many many more that will take forever to list. Big shout out to Joel Grayson who helped me in a pinch. Big shout out to Marc Adler who didn’t go to the show, and elected to stay home and pinch him self. I felt the show had a weird feel to it, which was more of hanging out w/cool people, then watching the ring. I thought the show was ok, and def worth checking out again. ICW didn’t announce the next show, but I’m sure it will be up on http://www.icwzone.com shortly. For 20 bucks you can’t go wrong and I’ll see you at the next show.
