After a day of taking in the shock of Jimmy's sudden and untimely death, I wanted to write something about him. I remember seeing Jimmy wrestle on some USAPro shows back when I first started getting back into indy wrestling. Unfortunately, because he was usually thrown in the old clusterfilled matches, many people, including myself, just saw him as another USAPro ticketseller. I soon learned that Jimmy had been around the wrestling scene for a long time before I saw him. Over the last few years, I spoke to Jimmy a little here and there, but I didn't really get to know him until about February of this year when I was talking with him after the JAPW event at the ECW Arena.
When we were speaking, he was telling me how he was getting ready for ABC's return event in NJ. I told him that I'd definitely go check out his show. Jimmy seemed that more than anything, he wanted to have a promotion out there that would give different wrestlers the chance to work and the chance to get out there. Having been to all of ABC's events this year, Jimmy accomplished just that. ABC introduced me to some fresh new talent that I never would have seen if not for him. ABC also became a fun place to go in a business where some people take things to seriously. Eveyone who worked at ABC always seemed to be having a great time and always worked hard no matter how many fans they were wrestling in front of. That's another thing that Jimmy needs to be given credit for, no matter how large or small the crowds were, Jimmy never cancelled a show. He went on as planned no matter what. Jimmy knew he was never going to get rich off of ABC and he knew at times he would lose money, but he always did the right thing and stayed true to his word.
I was fortunate enough to film the last 2 ABC events and that's where I got to know Jimmy more than I did in the past. In fact, the last ABC event in Brooklyn was probably the most fun that I had at an indy wrestling show in a while. As readers of his unique columns already know, Jimmy was a funny guy who always had a funny story to tell. While I didn't know him as well as a lot of other people did, I do know that he was a good guy. Many people liked to goof on Jimmy in jest, but nobody ever had a bad thing to say about him when it came down to it.
It's a shame when anybody passes away, but it's especially a shame when it's somebody as young as Jimmy was.
My condolences to Jimmy's family.
Rest In Peace Jimmy
