I just wanted to spend some time to pay my respects to the late Jimmy Hustler. My connection with him isn't as tight as those who have previously expressed their condolences here, but I'm just so shocked and saddened of the news of his death that I wanted to give Jimmy his due.
I've seen Jimmy Hustler wrestle for a few years now in USA Pro/UXW. By all means Jimmy wasn't the best wrestler out there, some may even consider him a ticket seller, but the fact of the matter is that he loved the sport of professional wrestling. He was living the childhood dream of wrestling in front of a live crowd like his heroes once did. I attended a couple of his ABC shows and was even fortunate to do commentary with Billy Reil at his last show for the DVD. Although the shows were small in attendance, the shows were quality family friendly entertainment for which fans who attended got more than their money's worth. ABC was another outlet to give some of the local wrestlers a stage to shine. But not only did ABC bring in local talent, Jimmy tried to give the fans a little more incentive to attend the shows, by booking former WWE stars such as Tito Santana and Antonio "The Promise" Thomas. Speaking to him on a couple of occasions at the shows, he envisioned ABC wrestling as a fed that puts out quality wrestling shows. He wasn't looking to make a ton of money. He wasn't even looking to put himself over at his own shows. He was just living another dream of being a wrestling promoter by putting out shows that put smiles on fans faces. For that I totally respect him.
Even his columns right here on the DOI "Drunken Stupors" was slowly becoming my favorite column here. It's just so sad that he died at such a young age.
Times like these definitely put things in perspective. With Thanksgiving tomorrow, it's definitely a time to reflect and thank God for every day we live in this world. We just never know when our last day here will be. We should put petty crap that make us angry behind us because in the long run, it doesn't mean anything.
My thoughts and prayers definitely go out to Jimmy's family and friends. May Jimmy rest in peace.
