The Dancing Goat is one of three coffee places in South Orange(NJ), that isn't a chain(Starbucks and Dunckin' Doughnuts are the others). It reminds me of what the coffee houses of the 1960's were like.

As you walk in there are tables, a couple of small booths and a very comfy couch. You walk up to the counter and order any type of coffee or tea and even a smoothie. I enjoy the Hawaiian, which is coffee with whipped cream and coconut. I also had a Mango/Guava smoothie.

Then you walk to the rear, you see two more comfy couches, a few big comfy chairs and large footrest , more tables and chairs and a stage. The stage is there for the entertainment that runs everyday but Mondays. The entertainment varies day to day, from live music to poetry.

When I was there there was Poethics, which runs at The Dancing Goat every Tuesday from 8:30pm to 11:00pm. Poethics is very interactive, with a feature performer, and open mic, so that the "fans" can share their own poetry.

There is a cover charge for the entertainment and Poethics' cover chare was $5 and worth every penny of it. There is no cover charge to sit in the front portion of Dancing Goat.

One very unique feature of The Dancing Goat is their bookcase filled with books,magazines and games to read and play exept during live events.
