The Angry
Young Man

As
some of you may or may not know, September 11th was my birthday. Unfortunately
for me, I feel bad about celebrating on that day since it should be a somber
day. So instead, on Saturday I went with some friends and family to the
World Famous Peter Luger's Steakhouse in Brooklyn New York. Located at 178
Broadway. (J train to Marcy Ave. stop and walk North towards Broadway or
the Williamsburg Bridge to the 1st Exit. Right onto Broadway) Let me start
off by saying, this is not the type of restaurant that you just walk into
and ask for a table. I had to make these reservations three weeks ahead
of time and the only times available were in the afternoon. Nothing at night.
So if you plan on going, you better call now so you can get something by
December. Peter Luger's has won the Zagats Survey Best Steakhouse in New
York award every year since 1989. They are going on 15 years as being the
#1 steakhouse in NYC. They first opened their doors, in the very same location
in 1887. So for over 100 years they have been there making the food that
only they can make.
Anyway, as my cousin, my girlfriend and her sister arrived, we decided to
have a drink. Our reservations were for 2:45 PM and we were there at 2.
We also had two more people coming so we decided to wait for them. For the
first time ever, I had shot of Jagermiester. Ugh. I guess all they had left
was the cough medicine flavor cause that is what I drank. That actually
helped my cough a bit since I am a bit under the weather. So basically,
the drinks weren't that expensive. I chased the shot down with a Becks from
the tap as they don't have many imports to drink. Becks wasn't that bad
but I would have preferred a Heineken or a Corona any day. What can I say,
I am Hispanic.
Anyway, the other two people in our party arrived and we sat down. We glanced
over the menu and decided to make our appetizer orders. I chose a slice
of Canadian Bacon and the tomatoes. A slice of Canadian bacon costs $1.75.
It is a big slice and it is smoked. I never liked Canadian bacon but our
waited said it was delicious. Boy was he right. Both the bacon and the tomatoes
can be had with the infamous worlds famous Peter Luger sauce which you can
purchase by the bottle. Delicious. Most of my party had ordered shrimp cocktail.
For our meal, we ordered two steaks for 3. (Steak can only be ordered ala
carte and you have the choice of a steak for 2 which costs $68.00, a steak
for 3 which costs $103.00 or a steak for 4 which costs $138.00). Sides are
also ala carte which means there are no value meals or anything like that.
All sides are for sharing with two or three people. The only individual
side is a baked potato which is huge. We ordered three sides of creamed
spinach, two German fried potatoes (which are like home fries) and three
baked potatoes. Also got our drinks refilled so we can continue our buzz
while we wait. To our amazement, the food didn't take very long to arrive
and once it did, IT LOOKED FANTASTIC. How did it taste? EVEN BETTER THAN
FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!! That had to be the best steak I have ever eaten in my
life. It melts in your mouth and with the special sauce, goodness, I thought
I was going to climax in my pants eating that bad boy.
After we finished our meal, and most of us took some doggie bags home cause
we didn't wrap up the huge ass steaks and we sure as hell weren't going
to let them toss them in the trash, we decided on desert. All of us ordered
different deserts and shared them with each other. I had an ice cream sundae
which was huge as well. It was delicious. My girlfriend ate a piece of cheesecake
which I must say, some people in Brooklyn claim the Juniors makes the best
Cheesecake. I personally don't like cheesecake that much but Juniors is
the only cheesecake I eat. Peter Luger's cheesecake is as good as Juniors.
I suggest that if any of you ever eat there, make sure you save room for
desert so you can compare.
So anyway, bill time. Ugh. Let me just say that Peter Luger's is not a place
to go to weekly. Save it for a special occasion and not too often. Peter
Luger's does not accept credit or debit cards. It is a cash only establishment.
Our check came out to $385.00 without tip. So basically about $425.00 for
lunch. But it was worth it. I say if you can afford it and want some great
steak, go to Peter Luger's and eat. It's the best.
