National Wrestling Superstars went two for two with another packed house, this time at the Manville VFW Hall on Saturday night, January 21st, following a successful event the night before in Woodbridge, NJ.
The opening contest was a battle of the masked men pitting Mexico's Fierce Fuego against America's hero The Patriot. Fuego, who admitted to promoters that he was suffering from jet lag, was soundly defeated by The Patriot in just over 2 minutes.
The next match saw Canadian superstar New Wave take on J.T. Highlander, who is now being announced from Atlantic City, NJ since he recently became a U.S. Citizen. New Wave and Highlander have a lot of history between them and they seem to know what the other was going to do before it happened. The ending saw Highlander ready to give New Wave a frog splash off the top rope, when New Wave pushed the referee into the ropes, causing Highlander to fall. From there, New Wave hit a reverse German Suplex and scored the pin.
The next match saw current NWS Jersey Shore champion Gavin Quest team with NWS newcomer C.J. Strong to take on Corvis Fear and Nicky Oceans, now known as Team Supreme. This was undoubtedly the best pure wrestling match in NWS rings in a long time with both teams giving 110% for the fans. Both teams seem to be able to read each other's minds and know what is going to happen next, which is rare in tag team action these days. After nearly 17 minutes of action, Quest and Strong hit Team Supreme with piledrivers and scored the win.
Next was a grudge match for the NWS/FwF cruiserweight title pitting champion J.D. Smooth against Funky White Boy. These two lightweights had the fans on the edges of their seats during the entire bout with Smooth taking most of the heat from the fans. Since the fans were booing him, he decided it was time to get in some cheap shots and got a pin over Funky White Boy after nearly 9 minutes of action to retain his title.
The next contest was very confusing to the fans. It was announced that local favorite Ice Pick Lowinski would once again team with TNT and managed by a new manager to the NWS rings, Draven, would take on the Baghdad Bullies, managed by Royce Profit. When TNT didn't come to the ring with Ice Pick, fans suspected something and they were right. Seems Ice Pick didn't know that TNT was now NWS tag champ with Saddam Insane of the Baghdad Bullies. Lowinski said he would take on both wrestlers and tried, but the 3 on 1 attack was too much and Draven ran to the locker room and came out with The Patriot who agreed to tag with Ice Pick. The match saw a lot of Saddam Insane (especially after The Patriot pulled his tights for a wedgey) and Profit (who also got a taste of the Patriot Pull of the pants). TNT & Insane spent a lot of time double-teaming Ice Pick, keeping him from tagging out to the Patriot. At the end, Ice Pick scored a pin on TNT for the win. Since this was a non-title bout (since it was not scheduled to happen), the belts were not on the line.
The final bout was a steel cage match pitting current NWS hardcore champion Balls Mahoney against WCW legend Kevin Sullivan. Both wrestlers were bleeding within the first few minutes of the match, which would figure since both wrestlers are experts in this type of match. Sullivan dragged Mahoney across the steel, opening cuts received last night from both Sullivan and Danny Demanto. Both wrestlers made attempts to go out the steel cage door, but when one got close, the other would pull him back in. The end came, when after both wrestlers lost a lot of blood, Mahoney signaled for the referee to open the door and he walked out, still NWS hardcore champion. When Mahoney was walking around the ring, it appeared that Sullivan was going to pounce on him, but NWS officials and security staff smartly got in-between them and ordered Sullivan back to the locker room.
