In 2005, Ireland's #1 professional wrestling promotion, Irish Whip Wrestling, began to receive worldwide recognition and acclaim with its various exports such as the IwW March SuperShow and TV series, IwW Whiplash TV, and it looks to continue in this trend in 2006 - beginning with IwW Gym War IX.
Gym War IX will be taped especially for The Wrestling Channel, a Canadian TV documentary and also for an RTE commissioned crew. IwW's international exposure has been pivotal to its growth in the past and Gym War IX - what is perhaps one of IwW's most important shows to date - will be taped for Ireland, UK, western Europe and North America. In addition to its attending crowd, IwW is now appealing to a potential audience of over 50 million people with this effort. It is an extraordinary achievement for a company of IwW's stature.
"In 2002, critics considered us just a cheap version of the wrestling they see on TV every week - however after we sold out the 1,200-seater National Basketball Arena that soon changed peoples tune. In 2005, our critics once again said that we could not match up to the wealth of independent wrestling talent aired on TWC - 50,000 viewers per week soon justified our position on the channel. In 2006, we hope that 50 million people will agree with those close to IwW who believe that we can be a major player in the independent professional wrestling.," said one IwW spokesperson.
It is certainly an exciting time to be an Irish pro-wrestling fan.
IwW Gym War IX takes place Friday 17th March in IwW's Training Gym, Baldoyle. Doors open at 4pm and tickets are E11. Already scheduled for the show is former WCW/TNA star Vampiro vs. SOS in the much-anticipated rematch for the IwW Title, Mary McCarthy vs. Jade in the first-ever women's Gym War match, 'Thee' Drew Galloway, Gonzo de Mondo, 'The Heretic' Red Vinny, Mad Man Manson, host 'The Ladies Hero' Dave Zero and more. undoubted talents. Along with them, we hope to give fans an
opportunity to enjoy the best and most beautiful from across the globe
to step between the ropes."
