Combat Zone Wrestling Entertainment Presents Best of the Best 5 on Saturday
night, May 14th at the CZW Arena (Viking Hall) with doors opening at 6:30 PM and
belltime at 7:00 PM! For directions & ticket info visit www.czwwrestling.com.
The announced line-up is as follows:
16 Men Are To Be Entered Into Best of the Best 5 This Year! So far the only
ones announced are…
“The New Age Punisher” B-Boy
Record in Combat Zone Wrestling:
Singles Matches: 16-11 (1 No Contest)
Three-Way Matches: 4-1
Four-Way Matches: 1-1
2 vs. 2 Tag Matches: 4-2
3 vs. 3 Tag Matches: 0-1
6 vs. 6 Tag Matches: 0-1
Record in Best of the Best:
1st Round – 3-0 (advanced past Nick Berk, Deranged, Jimmy Rave)
2nd Round – 2-1 (beat Super Dragon, Lil Cholo, lost to Roderick Strong)
3rd Round – 1-1 (lost to Trent Acid, beat Jay Briscoe)
4th Round (Finals) – 1-0 (beat Sonjay Dutt)
As you can tell B-Boy has never been eliminated from the 1st Round of Best of
the Best. His success in three-way matches is evident with his 4-1 record. He
won the 3rd Annual Best of the Best tournament. He won the CZW Xtreme Strong
Style Tournament. He’s held the CZW Iron Man Title. With the new format, it’s
not known how it will work with 16 men. B-Boy’s success in 3-way matches may
not help him. B-Boy was the first man announced for the 16 man tournament.
Will B-Boy become the first man ever to win two Best of the Best tournaments?
He made his debut in Combat Zone Wrestling at Best of the Best 2 and made such
an impact he turned into a regular member of the CZW roster. Is this his chance
to get back on track after losing to Ruckus at the Trifecta for the CZW World
Heavyweight Title?
Brandon Thomaselli
Record in Combat Zone Wrestling:
Three-Way Matches: 2-0
Record in Best of the Best:
No record
Brandon Thomaselli made his Combat Zone Wrestling debut at Trifecta Challenge 3,
winning the Trifecta Challenge 3 and gaining himself a spot in the most
prestigious tournament in the United States. Thomaselli has had success in IWA
Mid-South competing in the Heavyweight & Junior Heavyweight divisions. With the
wide open changes to Best of the Best 5 made by CZW Commissioner Maven Bentley
this year, open to anyone of any weights, he has a fighting shot. People have
made themselves in past year’s winning the Trifecta, such as Jimmy Rave & Nate
Webb. Can Thomaselli do the same? No Trifecta winner has made it past the
first round of Best of the Best 5. Can he break the curse?
“The Savior of CZW” Chris Hero
Record in Combat Zone Wrestling:
Singles Matches: 8-6
Three-Way Dance: 0-1
Four-Way Dance: 1-2
2 vs. 2 Tag Matches: 1-3
Best of the Best Record:
No record
“The Savior of CZW” Chris Hero is the reason for the change in the format to
Best of the Best 5. His petition to CZW Commissioner Maven Bentley is the
reason why heavyweights are allowed for the first time ever in Best of the Best.
This is Hero’s chance. He lost out of winning the CZW Xtreme Strong Style
Tournament. He was eliminated in the 2nd round of the CZW Iron Man Title
Tournament at Redefined. But he’s a former CZW Iron Man Champion. Can “The
Savior” become the Best of the Best?
“Pure Impact” Derek Frazier
Record in Combat Zone Wrestling:
Singles Matches: 4-10
Three-Way Dance: 1-4
Four-Way Dance: 0-2
2 vs. 2 Tag Matches: 2-2 (1 No Contest)
3 vs. 3 Tag Matches: 2-1
3 vs. 2 Tag Matches: 0-1
5 vs. 5 Tag Matches: 0-1
Three-Way Tag Matches: 1-2
Three-Way 3 vs. 3 Matches: 0-1
Four-Way Tag Matches: 1-1
Record in Best of the Best:
No record
“Pure Impact” Derek Frazier is another man making his Best of the Best debut at
BOTB 5. The above record during his Combat Zone Wrestling career may not look
good, but Frazier has moved up from being a man that was being beat in every
match to putting together an impressive streak of 7 straight shows where he
wasn’t pinned and going 5-0 with not being involved in 2 of the pinfalls. He’s
a former CZW World Tag Team Champion until he ran into The H8 Club. Frazier has
finally seen himself rise above and get his chance in Best of the Best. Can he
capture the chance?
Ebessan
Record in Combat Zone Wrestling:
No record
Record in Best of the Best:
No record
Ebessan makes his Combat Zone Wrestling debut at Best of the Best 5. Ebessan
has been making waves in the United States for close to a year now with stints
in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and most recently in Chikara Tag World Grand Prix
tournament where he teamed with Billy Ken Kidd and ended up defeating the likes
of Shirley Doe, Darkness Crabtree, Super Dragon, B-Boy, Skayde & Milinato
Collection AT. Ebessan technically made his debut on a CZW Xposed where he
tried to aid B-Boy after an attack from Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli. Would
Hero be looking for payback? How far can Ebessan make it in Best of the Best?
“Mr. Wrestling” Kevin Steen
Record in Combat Zone Wrestling:
2 vs. 2 Tag Matches: 1-1
Four-Way Matches: 0-0 (Wasn’t involved in the pinfall)
Record in Best of the Best:
No record
This is “Mr. Wrestling” Kevin Steen’s debut in Best of the Best 5. He hasn’t
been seen in Combat Zone Wrestling since he broke off his partnership with El
Generico at Cage of Death 6 leaving him to die against Super Dragon & Excalibur.
With an issue that’s not yet settled between himself & Super Dragon will Steen
have to be watching his back in the tournament? Worrying about Super Dragon?
Super Dragon
Record in Combat Zone Wrestling:
Singles Match: 0-2
Three-Way Matches: 1-0
Four-Way Matches: 1-0
2 vs. 2 Tag Matches: 2-2
Best of the Best Record:
1st Round: 1-0 (outlasted Nick Berk)
2nd Round: 0-1 (lost to B-Boy)
Like B-Boy, Super Dragon made his debut at Best of the Best 2 and lost to B-Boy
in the 2nd round. He wouldn’t be seen in Combat Zone Wrestling until High
Stakes 2. Super Dragon was on a tear for a while before him & Excalibur took on
Team Ca$h in January. They were defeated, the next month Sabian pinned Super
Dragon and that was it. Super Dragon was busy in California and had CZW on the
back of his mind. But with the chance to become the Best of the Best, he will
make his return to Combat Zone Wrestling. Will he settle the score with B-Boy?
Kevin Steen?
Kenny The Bastard
Record in Combat Zone Wrestling:
4-Way 2 vs. 2 Matches: 1-0
Best of the Best Record:
No record
Kenny The Bastard made his CZW debut back at CZW Only The Strong: Scarred For
Life when he and his partner in the Flying Hurricanes Takao defending the IWS
Tag Team Titles against Beef Wellington & El Generico, All Money Is Legal and
Ghost Shadow & Heretic. Kenny The Bastard is being brought back as a
representive of International Wrestling Syndicate as none of the IWS bracket in
the Trifecta advanced to Best of the Best. Will Kenny The Bastard be able to
make himself in Combat Zone Wrestling at Best of the Best 5 like so many have
done in the past?
CZW World Jr. Heavyweight Champion Sabian
Record in Combat Zone Wrestling:
Singles Matches: 6-0
3-Way Matches: 0-2
4-Way Matches: 1-1
5-Way Matches: 0-1
2 vs. 2 Matches: 9-1 (1 No Contest)
Mixed Tag 2 vs. 2 Matches: 1-0
3 vs. 3 Matches: 4-1
4 vs. 4 Matches: 0-1
5 vs. 4 Matches: 1-0
Record in Best of the Best:
No Record
“The Black Jesus” has been on a tear as of late. He’s only lost twice in the
last year, once against Jon Dahmer & DJ Hyde with Eddie Kingston has his
partner, and second at the Cage of Death 6 match. He’s undefeated all-time in
singles matches! He is the CZW World Jr. Heavyweight Champion after defeating
“Lightning” Mike Quackenbush at the Trifecta Challenge 3, and defended his title
for the first time just last night defeating Niles Young at the first NEXT show.
He’s a former CZW World Tag Team Champion. He’s trying to do something his
fellow Blackout member couldn’t do, win the Best of the Best. When reached for
comment, Sabian had the following thing to say, “If you motherfuckers think I’m
defending my title at this tournament, you don’t know shit. I’m not putting my
Junior Heavyweight Title up for grabs at Best of the Best, why? What did those
15 motherfuckers do to deserve this shot? Nothing. So after I win Best of the
Best, I’ll think about defending it against one of those motherfuckers. That’s
all.” Can Sabian become the first Blackout member to win Best of the Best?
Will CZW make him defend his CZW World Jr. Heavyweight Title?
Sonjay Dutt, who was once announced for Best of the Best 5, is unable to
participate, as he will be on tour for Zero-One! CZW wishes him the best of
luck on the tour.
Card Subject To Change
Last night CZW & CHIKARA presented the first show of NEXT: Genesis Point! The
show opened with ring announcer Ed O Mac. The first match got started right
away!
Andy Sumner vs. Mike Quackenbush
In a "shoot-style" type match, Mike Quackenbush made Sumner submit in about 5
minutes, and than after the match showed him how to counter the submission move.
Impressive debut from Sumnner.
Chris Hero vs. Cory Kastle
Chris Hero defeated Cory Kastle via submission in around 10 minutes. Kastle
showed some stuff but Hero (and his companion Claudio Castagnoli who came out
mid-match) were too much.
Eddie Kingston vs. Emil Sitoci
Before the match could begin, Kingston promised to send Sitoci back to wherever
he came from. Sitoci had Kingston beat a couple times but couldn't get the job
done, and Kingston defeated Emil with the Kondo Clutch in about 9 minutes.
Claudio Castagnoli vs. DJ Hyde
Claudio and DJ went toe-to-toe before Chris Hero came out and helped Claudio
gain the advantage and the victory.
"Sweet & Sour" Larry Sweeney, Crossbones & Ravage & Darkness Crabtree vs. Knight
Eye For The Pirate Guy, Shane Storm & Jigsaw
A very long 8-man Lucha Rules match which was comical to say the least with
Darkness Crabtree. Knight Eye for the Pirate Guy, Shane Storm & Jigsaw got the
victory!
In the main event of the evening, for the CZW World Jr. Heavyweight Title Match:
Niles Young vs. Sabian (1st Defense)
And in Sabian's 1st Defense of the CZW World Jr. Heavyweight Title match, he
went out there with something to prove and that he did. He beat the living hell
out of Niles Young (and Niles sent some back Sabian's way) and was able to get
the victory with the Tornado DDT and than a double stomp from the top rope for
the victory and retained the CZW World Jr. Heavyweight Title!
I've just been informed by Smart Mark Video that NEXT will be released as a
