We have three teams to add to our overloaded Tag World Grand Prix. First, Ring of Honor Trainees Matt Turner and Davey Andrews have found new partners. So the new pairings will be:

Matt Turner & Anthony Franco
Shane Hagadorn & Davey Andrews

Due to herniated discs in his back, UltraMantis Black, half of the Dark Breed with Hallowicked, will be unable to compete at our upcoming Tag World Grand Prix. Mantis will be out of action until mid-March. However, Hallowicked will still appear in the tournament - not as part of the Dark Breed, but as part of The Night Shift. Coming out of retirement for one weekend only, Hallowicked's former partner Blind Rage will fill the vacancy left by the injured Mantis. This adds a completely new wrinkle to the 32-team tournament. The previous Tag World Grand Prix - held in the summer of 2003 - was won by Blind Rage and Hallowicked. In just over two weeks, we'll find out if months of ring rust impede the Night Shift - or if the former Tag World Grand Prix winners can repeat as champions!

Major Changes to CHIKARA's Tag World Grand Prix 2005!

From the desk of Leonard F. Chikarason:

"It would appear that we have made the grave error of booking too many teams for our Tag World Grand Prix. In addition, there are concerns about building capacity for the night of the finals. For this, my personal assistant Cheryl Phycosis will be flogged. However, that will not solve all our problems. Although historically, flogging has solved the majority of CHIKARA's problems."

"We are changing the Tag World Grand Prix from a 2-night tournament, into a 3-night tournament. In addition, we are no longer content to just host 24 teams, making this, and the 1987 Crockett Cup tie as the biggest tag team tournaments ever. Instead, we are laying claim to the largest tournament of all time, with 32 teams, a feat which, considering how long ago our budget was spent, might seem insane. Nevertheless, our plan is this: On Night 1, 16 teams will compete until only 4 remain. On Night 2, 16 more teams will be whittled down to just 4 teams. The winners from Night 1 and Night 2 will advance into Night 3, where these 8 surviving teams will do battle in the final rounds of the world's biggest tag team tournament. I expect it will be swell."

Don't wait another minute! Buy your tickets now for the largest tag tournament ever held! It promises to be swell!

CHIKARA's February Torneo to be replaced by Tag World Grand Prix '05!

In February, we'll be presenting a 2-night tag tournament like no other - but some changes are in the works. Simply put, "Torneo de Parejas Al Azar" is out, and "Tag World Grand Prix" is in. That is to say, we are dispensing with the random partner formula for this tournament. Many of the international wrestlers we contracted for this tournament, and their respective offices, have had a difficult time understanding the purpose of a random partner tag team tournament. So we said, "screw it."

CHIKARA is filled with solid tandems, and we've got teams coming from places like IWA Mid-South, CZW, MPW, Europe, Canada, Mexico and more. Starting, February 18th in Reading, PA, we're going to unleash the biggest tag team tournament to hit the U.S. in over two decades at the Riverside Beneficial Assoc. building! From around the globe, 24 teams are coming to compete in a pair of blockbuster events you cannot miss! Already locked in for the 2005 Tag World Grand Prix:

The Wild Cards (Eddie Kingston & BlackJack Marciano)
Team MPW (Darin Corbin & Version 2.0)
Big Daddy (Shirley Doe & Darkness Crabtree)
The SuperFriends (Chris Hero & "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush)
Team IWS (El Generico & Kevin Steen)
Men@Work (Mister ZERO & Shane Storm)

CHIKARA is proud to announce the addition of Jorge "Skayde" Rivera to the Chikara Wrestle Factory training staff! This past week, Rivera signed a contract to become a part-time trainer throughout 2005, joining full-time trainers Chris Hero and "Lightning" Mike Quackenbush at the Allentown-based facility. Rivera begins his first training stint with CHIKARA in January of 2005, and will alternate with both Hero and Quackenbush for the remainder of the new year.

Rivera, an 18-year veteran of the sport, has served as the head trainer at Ultimo Dragon's Toryumon Gym for the last four years. In the 1990's, he wrestled for AAA, EMLL and all over the Mexican independents in various guises as Skayde, Boomerang, Flecha, Power Ranger Blanco, and countless others. His stand out exhibition matches on T2P (Toryumon 2000 Project) cards in both Mexico and Japan showed the wrestling world that Rivera is in a technical class all by himself. In 2005, Rivera will split his time between Mexico and the United States, and this offers Americans their first opportunity to experience regular training under this mat marvel. His work as the trainer of the Toryumon, T2P and Toryumon X, and Dragon Gate rosters speaks for itself, without mentioning the dozens and dozens of lucha stars that have learned from this incredible innovator.

Hero, one of the most in-demand independents today, continues to serve as co-trainer at the Wrestle Factory. Hero relocated to Pennsylvania in July of 2004 and joined the Wrestle Factory staff shortly thereafter. His vast technical acumen and international experience made him an instant welcome addition to the school. Aside from his work with CHIKARA, Hero recently toured overseas throughout Germany, Switzerland, England, Ireland and completed his first tour of the Orient under Big Japan Pro Wrestling.

Quackenbush, who founded Chikara Wrestle Factory with Reckless Youth in 2002, also serves as co-trainer. Skilled in all styles of pro-wrestling, Quackenbush has garnered not only international acclaim for his diverse body of work, but has also captured an array of championships from the United States, Mexico and Europe. A constant on the independent circuit for more than a decade, Quackenbush is one of the most experienced, and best-traveled trainers active today.

In short, there has never been a better time to enroll at Chikara Wrestle Factory to pursue training for a career in professional wrestling. Now, more than ever, CHIKARA presents a learning experience unlike any other being offered anywhere in the nation. For more information on our school (Chikara Wrestle Factory) or our promotion (CHIKARA) please visit our website: www.chikarapro.com

When CHIKARA returns to Emmaus on Saturday, October 30th, a veritable indy impossibility will be presented! The current IWA Mid-South tag team champions, The Wild Cards, will lock up with CZW stand outs Sabian and Joker! Between then and now, the Cards have two scheduled title defenses, but regardless of the outcome, The Wild Cards will meet Sabian & Joker on October 30th.

Wrestling on the CHIKARA squad thus far: Jigsaw, Mister ZERO, Gran Akuma, Jolly Roger, Icarus, Shane Storm and DJ Skittlez. The CHIKARA team has not announced the final member of their squad, but has said that it will go to "an obvious choice."

The other squad is comprised of Larry Sweeney's "Sweet & Sour International," and so far, the only confirmed wrestler from that side is Sweeney himself. Both teams will announce a "batting order" for their team as well, since under Cibernetica rules, the wrestlers can only enter and tag in a pre-arranged order. The first wrestler can only tag the second, the second can only tag the third, and so on.
