The year 2005 started with a bang here in the ACWA. Spring Breakout 2005 was full of surprises and shocking events. The latest breaking news was the early retirement of Shawn Donovan, ˝ of ACWA Tag Team Champions the American Express.

The night started with one of the most disgusting and vile acts ever witnessed in the ACWA. Before the event even started Ryan Wing came to the ring and began berating CJ Summers. Summers then confronted Wing about their history and the path that lead to that night. In the middle of the confrontation, Bobby Piper came out of nowhere and assaulted Summers with a chair. With Ryan Wing getting involved, Piper began using the chair to destroy CJ’s knee, putting the Main Event in jeopardy.

The show finally began and “Dangerous” Dan McGuire took on newcomer Pete Hanover in the opening contest. McGuire always has Vik Voorhees around if he needs him. But the match started out with tremendous back and forth technical wrestling. Then McGuire used his cheating ways to wear Hanover down. Even though Hanover battled back with every ounce of courage, Dan McGuire overcame young Hanover and pinned him for the victory.

Della Morte was supposed to defend the Women’s World Title against Luscious Lilly, but Della Morte came out before the contest and told everyone in attendance that Lilly had “some sort of accident,” and she wouldn’t be able to wrestle tonight. Della went on to say “I guess I have the night off,” but before she could leave the ring Jana came out and interrupted her little speech. Jana challenged her to a match. Della Morte then told her “if you beat me tonight, I’ll give you a shot at my title at ACWA American Revolution.” The match ensued, and Della Morte took the early advantage using her decided power advantage. She punished Jana throughout the match, but Jana fought back and nearly pinned the champion. As the match neared its end, Della Morte became overconfident and allowed too much time for Jana to recover, thus allowing Jana to pin Della Morte and win. This now gives Jana a shot at the ACWA Women’s World Title at ACWA American Revolution in July.

The Orphan then took on his newest rival Vik Voorhees in a good ol’ fashioned “Grudge Match.” Vik Voorhees, being a big man himself, was still at a disadvantage in the match. The Orphan had the crowd behind him, which is unusual considering his past in the ACWA. This match definitely lived up to its billing. These men had a score to settle from back at Wrestlethon 3, where they locked horns for the first time. Both men were furious at their lost opportunity at the ACWA America’s Cup and the Tag Team titles. You could see it in this match as the heavy blows came one after another. With both men unmercifully beating on each other, it was tough at one point to see a clear winner between these two bulls. In the end, their tempers got the best of them as they battled to the outside and it forced the referee to rule the match a “No Contest,” which didn’t make the fans happy. This feud is far from over and who knows when Voorhees and the Orphan will finally settle the argument of, “Who is the biggest and baddest man in the ACWA?”

It was now time to present the 2004 ACWA America’s Cup to the winner, Travis Blake.
Having no championship to defend, Travis Blake was left to stand alone due to his former partner’s early retirement. When Blake finally arrived to the ring he took the trophy and arrogantly displayed it for all to see. When asked how he felt about his partner Shawn Donovan retiring, Blake pretty much had the attitude that it doesn’t matter because it was him who carried the team all along in the first place. The ACWA Championship Committee did not allow him to defend the Tag Team Titles, also decreeing that if he doesn’t find a partner by ACWA American Revolution, he’ll be stripped of the Tag Team titles. Obviously infuriated by this, Blake voiced his displeasure with that edict and said, “it doesn’t matter,” and “Bring out my opponent.” Blake’s opponent that night was newcomer Sean Royal. Both men were evenly matched in size and strength. Royal displayed some explosive and high-octane aerial offense that nearly gave him the win early on in the match. With his attitude changed for the worse, Blake used dirty tactics to slow down momentum. Obviously frustrated by Royal, Blake decided to try and end the match illegally. When the ref was temporarily stunned, Blake seized the opportunity and grabbed one of the title belts, having every intention of knocking out Royal. But Royal ducked the big swing, took the belt from Blake and knocked him down with it. But the referee saw all of that and even though Royal did not bring the belt into the match, he was disqualified for using it, giving Travis Blake the victory. Will Sean Royal and a partner of his choosing aim for a title shot in July? Who will Travis Blake find to replace Shawn Donovan? Only time will tell…

With his comments fresh in everyone’s mind, “Sure Thing” Ryan Wing took center stage as he battled Warpath. The Puerto Rican Sensation made his debut at ACWA Fan Appreciation Week 2004. This night, however, he looked to leave his mark by defeating Ryan Wing. Everyone knows Wing’s style; he’ll do whatever it takes, even if it is illegal, to win his matches, so Warpath had quite a hill to climb. Warpath took the offensive advantage early using his surprising agility and strength, taking Wing off of his game. Twice during the match, Wing tried to leave early, but Warpath would have none of that and he took it upon himself to physically re-enter Wing into the match. As Warpath gained more momentum it seemed Wing’s demise was nearing. Wing however, used some good ol’ fashioned cheating to regain the advantage, and in the end, it was Ryan Wing who made sure the victory was a “Sure Thing.”

In the Main Event, “The American Rock Star” CJ Summers was set to take on former friend turned bitter enemy, “Rowdy” Bobby Piper. The fans all were wondering if Summers would make it to the ring after the vicious beating he suffered at the hands of Ryan Wing and Bobby Piper? Bobby Piper hit the ring, grabbing the mic and stated “Just give me the belt, CJ won’t show up. I deserve the title now!” Summers’ music hit and he was nowhere to be found. Then it hit again and finally CJ limped his way from the locker room to the ring with belt in hand. Just as the match was about to be announced, Summers and Piper started going at it. But every ounce of offense mustered by Summers was quickly halted as Piper once again attacked the knee, which was his obvious focus throughout the match. The fans gave everything they had to CJ, willing him to win, but at times even that wasn’t enough as the damage had been done to CJ’s knee. Then out of the locker room came Ryan Wing. He was supporting Piper, telling him “Pin this guy,” while on the outside of the ring. At one point, Piper tossed Summers to the outside and began to distract the referee. This gave Ryan Wing a golden opportunity to hammer CJ, which he did behind he referee’s back. Wing then quickly walked away after throwing CJ back into the ring. Piper tried to pin him down, but somehow CJ kicked out, showing his heart and desire not to quit. Piper then knocked down the referee. Ryan Wing grabbed the belt and with Piper holding him, looked to clock Summers with the title belt. At the last second, it was CJ ducked out of the way and Wing cold-cocked Piper with the belt, nearly knocking him unconscious. Since that plan backfired, Wing stood over Piper, showing obvious disgust at his busted plan. While this went on, Summers regained himself, grabbed the title belt and when Wing turned around, he took him out with the belt, sending him to the canvas. As Piper made his way back to his feet in a daze, CJ grabbed him from behind and rolled him up for the win, retaining the ACWA Heavyweight Title. After the match was over Piper and Wing began to attack CJ Summers, but the locker room emptied out and put an end to that near massacre. CJ left Neptune that night still the ACWA Heavyweight Champion. One has to wonder what could possibly come of this in July at ACWA American Revolution?
