What's up everyone and welcome to another McReview, here on the DOI. This was a huge fucking weekend for both the DOI & for
WSU, and I'm trying to catch up with everything. This review will be a tad on the short side, since we already have the
official in-depth version of this show posted already on DOI. Make sure to check out the convention reviews already on the
main page, as well as the official NWS recap of this event.
NWS
8/25
Carteret, NJ
Refs: "Quick Count" Mike Dillon & Kenny Edwards
Ring Announcer: Joe Panzarino
Bell-Ringer: Gino Moore
Attendance: 200
This venue was fucking amazing. It was really big, clean and made the show seem important.
Due to the LOTR convention, there were many huge names on this show and watching this show. Luger, Ivory & Vader were signing
autographs for fans and watched the show. Ivory was legit into it, popping for everything. It was funny watching her reaction
to stuff, as even if some stuff wasn't that hot, she was supportive. On the other hand, Lex Luger was hilarious, trashing
stuff and having a "What the fuck is this" look on his face for some matches. Vader left two matches into the show, as he's
just coming off surgery and was in pain.
For the NWS Jersey Shore Championship
Nicky Oceans d. Wasted Youth & JD Smoothie
Lex Luger: "All these guys are wearing black tops".
Joe Panzarino really shined here just introducing this match. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, he's great at
putting things over and selling all the angles. Joe talked about who was who during the intros, why the guys were wrestling
and put over the guys in a not so obvious way. I think if Joe was a Jehoviah Witness, there'd be alot more of those fucks
knocking at your door and successfully converting people.
This match was sloppy a bit. Nicky Oceans stood out in the match. The story was Oceans & Smooth were on the same side. Smooth
didn't seem interested in winning the belt, as he was more about helping Oceans retain. Oceans wins this match after an
enziguri to Youth.
Monsta Mack d. Bison Bravado
This was a solid encounter between the two long-standing rivals. Mack was the favorite here. Bison hit his dreaded cannonball
and almost got a near 3. Ivory's face when she saw the move and the way Mack sold it was priceless, as she looked like that
kid who was shocked to shit when Edge beat Cena for the WWE title last year. However, Bison went to the well too often and
when he went for another cannonball, Mack got out of the way. Mack then polished the ragin' Asian off with a clothesline from
Compton for the clean 1-2-3.
Not the best match these two ever had, but perfectly acceptable for NWS, as you really can't be fighting all over the place
and have even PG13 promos, especially in a church venue.
For the NWS Cruiserweight Championship
(C) Mikey Pacifica vs Dirt Bag Dan went to a 10 minute time limit draw
This was probably the best match I ever seen either one of these guys have, as both guys have improved a bit. Both are still
very skinny, but they are getting better. They aren't great by any means but at least with all the ring time they get from
ticket selling, it's starting to pay off a bit.
This feud has been brewing in NWS for a while. The match went to the floor a bit after some high flying stuff, including a
huge missed splash from Pacifica. The match had an old school finish, with Dan suplexing Mikey on the floor. The ref almost
counted to 10, but the time limit expired, making this match a draw, leaving Mikey to retain his belt.
POSTMATCH: Gino Moore talked for what seemed like hours and a rematch was made for 11/2 in Middletown, NJ. I thought Dan did
a good job selling the fact that he wanted the belt and was upset about the draw. I don't really care for Dan's work at all,
but thought he did well here.
Giant Silva & Goal-Duh d. Sal Sincere & TNT w/Royce Profit, Danny Doring & Antonio Thomas
Just to get this match started was torture. Lex Luger: "Will this match ever start?" Gino Moore was on the microphone for
what seemed like an eternity, as there was tons of stalling and crap. It took at least 30 minutes from when the guys got out
there to start, because of Gino's promos, kicking Doring/Thomas to the back, Royce Profit cutting a promo no one in the crowd
cared about or knew what he was talking about, and security guards keeping the situation under control.
Goal-Duh was Harry Acropolis under what looked like a brown pantyhose mask. He even had the Cartman doll too. The Goal-Duh
ripoff gimmick is something NWS has done before Tenta died, and is something they'll continue to do. I have mixed feelings on
it, as it's a gimmick that NWS never used Tenta for. NWS is under the belief that Goal-Duh can be whored out like "The TV
Clown", but I think it's just silly and bootleg. However, it is a carnival show, so you jsut gotta take it for what it is.
Silva started the match off with TNT and took him down with clotheslines. Sal Sincere would later get in there and go to work
on Goal-Duh while using the name Wayne Ploghofft (pronounced PLOO-HAAAAA) in vain. Silva would eventually make the hot tag
here, cleaning house, only for Doring & Thomas to return. Thomas & Doring beat down Silva, while Goal-Duh and Sal Sincere
brawled to the back. With Doring & Thomas aiding TNT in beating down Silva, the match was ruled a DQ.
POSTMATCH: The Patriot, who appeared about 2 minutes after Sal brawled to the back, with Goldust, ran out to make the save.
Patriot/Goldust vs Thomas/Doring was set up as the main event, and conveniently enough, we had an intermission once all the
big names were out there!
The match was fine for what it was. Silva is limited. I love the way NWS does things. They really have their formula
mastered. All the big name guys clean up when they are booked like this right before intermission. NWS is one of those places
where you don't have to go to every show to know what's going on, as they build the whole show during the event.
INTERMISSION
Eric Simms hassled all the big names for autographs and then we returned with...
Traci Brooks d. Nikki Roxx
Special Guest of Honor: Ivory
This match was filmed by DOIVideo for future release, as it will appear on the WSU Title Match DVD, which we hope to release
on 9/22.
This match started right on the floor, as these two have been feuding in NWS. This is the fourth match in the series, which
features Traci as face and Nikki as heel. There was tons of great brawling on the outside. Ivory was showcased in this match
and was pulling for Traci. Ivory helped Traci a bit, as assisted Traci with Nikki during the outside action. The finish was
kind of lackluster, as Traci won with a small package. If this match was to blow off the feud, the finish should've been more
concrete and not a flash pin.
Main Event
Goldust & The Patriot d. Antonio Thomas & Danny Doring w/Royce Profit
It was funny seeing Goldust & Nikki Roxx, two TNA wrestlers doing their regular gimmicks, rather than the dreaded bullshit
TNA has cast upon them. WHo the fuck wants to see Black Reign or a Voodoo Queen anyway? Black Reign and The Voodoo Queen
sound like stripper names anyway.
This match was the best match on the card and had the crowd hot, due to all the name power. Brian Wittenstein, of squirter
and soon to be Full Throttle fame: "Just think, this could've been a WWE match."
The finish of this match saw Goldust kick Thomas in the bean bag, then end it with a bulldog for 3. After the match Goldust
and The Patriot pantsed Royce Profit. Instead of selling his ass hanging out, Profit pulled his pants up right away. I think
if Profit ran around the ring a bit with his ass hanging out, rather than pulling up his sweatpants immediately, he could've
got more heat and got a bigger reaction, thus helping sell more gimmicks for Goldust & Patriot.
Final McWord
This show was a typical NWS show, just with much more names and stars. You know what you're getting ahead of time. The Gino
Moore promos however, I feel are getting longer and longer. If NWS ever wanted to build up a killer heel, they'd have the
heel beat up Gino, because with all the mic time Gino gets, Gino is one of NWS most BELOVED characters.
Here is some news from the NWS:
In the three-way NWS Jersey Shore Match, Wasted Youth was filling in for a no-show called Chris Steeler, who, in the words of
NWS management, "had a case of terminal hangnail and a run in his panty hose, as this IWF stooge apparently beckoned to a
higher calling - there was a job fair at McDonalds."
NWS promoters hastily reworked the main event into a first class arena-style match with one-half of the former ECW tag-team
champions Danny Doring teamed together with one-half of the former WWE tag-team champion Heartthrobs Antonio Thomas. Doring
was lifted out of another spot in the show and inserted into the main event in place of the ever-increasingly unreliable
Johnny Candido, who for the second week in a row no-showed his so-called home promotion, which as far as NWS management is
concerned has become his former home promotion.
NWS returns to action in Edison, NJ on Friday September 7th & Saturday September 8th, with three mini-shows as part of the
Edison Family Festival Of Fireworks & Street Fair along Amboy Avenue, Friday night at 7:45pm, and Saturday at 4:00pm and
7:45pm. Admission to those shows is free.
