Joey Matthews Update
Joey Matthews wasted no time in the WWE, as he and his tag team partner, Johnny Nitro, won the WWE Smackdown Tag Team Titles during the WWE Supershow at MSG this Monday night. It was widely speculated that Joey Matthews and his partner would win the WWE Smackdown titles soon, due to the weak tag division.
Congratulations to the former NYWC and 3PW Heavyweight champion on his new found gold.

In a story the DOI originally broke several weeks ago, Joey Matthews, who was expected to debut for the WWE after WrestleMania, made his WWE On-Air debut for the Smackdown brand, at the Smackdown tapings last night. Joey Matthews made his debut with his tag team partner, Johnny Nitro. The team, who is managed by Melina, goes by the moniker of MNM. In OVW, Matthews and Nitro were able to capture the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles. With a (to put it bluntly) crappy tag division in the WWE, it should only be a matter of time before a solid team of Matthews and Nitro are wearing WWE Tag Team gold.
Like Joey Matthews, "Livewyre" Mike Mondo is expected to debut for the WWE sometime soon. There is no update to our previous story, concerning Mondo's status, but once we find something out, we'll post it here.
The DOI wishes good luck to Joey Matthews, who definitely deserved and earned this spot.

Two NYWC Champions To Wrestle For the WWE Full-Time After WrestleMania
Current NYWC Heavyweight Champion "Livewyre" Mike Mondo and Former NYWC & 3PW Heavyweight Champion, Joey Matthews, are both slated to make their WWE on-air TV debuts sometime after WrestleMania.
Joey Matthews recently dropped the NYWC Heavyweight Championship to Livewyre, and was subsequently "fired" from NYWC. Expect Livewyre to drop the NYWC championship in some form on a future NYWC show.
From the people we talked to regarding this story, Joey Matthews was expected to be on-air quicker than Mondo, and is expected to be on Smackdown. Livewyre's WWE brand is still uncertain, as he could wind up on either Smackdown, or maybe wind up on Raw, where he could re-unite with ex-OVW running-mate Gene Snitsky.
Either way, the DOI looks forward watching these two wrestlers progress in their time with the WWE.
