Kris Krude Interview
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Hey Kris, first off thanks for doing this interview with us. At what age did you become a fan of wrestling?
Kris Krude: I have been a wrestling fan since I can remember. I knew I was hooked from the first time I saw it, but I remember the build up to WrestleMania 3 being the time that hooked me for life.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey:At what age did you decide that you wanted to become a professional wrestler?
Kris Krude: I guess it was always in the back of my mind.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey:Who trained you? How was your training?
Kris Krude: I broke in with Captain Rick Adams. My actual in ring training came from a plethora of different guys depending on who was at the old PWA gym or working on the shows I was at. I'm sure people have read this a million times, but you never stop learning.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey:What was the best promotion you have worked for and what was the worst?
Kris Krude: I can easily rank the worst. MEPW - Main Event Pro Wrestling run by Reggie Fenwick aka Ricci Starr. I don't know if anyone even remembers him anymore, but that guy was a piece of work. It was at one of his shows at an abandoned mattress warehouse where I actually met Meanie the first time. He and several of the ECW guys that were booked for the show refused to get out of their cars until they got paid after they saw the venue. Reggie tried writing checks and all of those guys left.
Honorable mention goes to Maximum Championship Wrestling on the worst list. Those shows were so bad that they had a hard time getting even family/friends to come watch. I have a couple of friends that still work there and have heard that things have gotten much better now. MCW circa fall/winter of 04 was probably as bad as it gets.
On the best list, 3PW was a great company. I enjoyed what I did get to do with PWU and look forward to expanding on that. I really enjoy working for Pops and WXW and even though it's been a while, I love going to Pittsburgh for FNW.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey:You broke out pretty much when you made your 3PW debut. How did you feel when you were debuting for such a big company at the time?
Kris Krude: I was excited. I had never been to the arena before. When I first broke in I made it my goal to not step foot in that building until I got booked. When that goal became a reality it was really neat. When Meanie found me, I was working for MCW in Delaware in front of anywhere from 3 to sometimes 10 people - legit. I had just come back to wrestling in September of 04 and was taking EVERYTHING I could get. To get 3PW by February was really neat. It was awesome to perform in front of wrestling fans again and not just wrestlers family/friends.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: You had a feud with CJ O Doyle in 3PW. What are your thoughts on that feud?
Kris Krude: We didn't really feud in 3PW but my first match for 3PW was against him. I really enjoyed that match. Of all days to have the flu, I had it that day. I was quite concerned with being able to do that match at all because I couldn't breath but it turned out well. My series of matches with CJ last year were a lot of fun.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: How was it wrestling a guy like Blue Meanie?
Kris Krude: Awesome! Wrestling The Meanie was both fun and easy. Our first match had everything including the top rope breaking and the night Kris Krude danced atop the ECW Arena. Meanie gave me so much in that match and really helped me.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey:How did you feel once 3PW closed?
Kris Krude: Like pretty much everyone else there, I was upset. I had A LOT of fun working there and that was my first major exposure.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Since 3PW closed you have been wrestling for such promotions as ACPW, FNW, and WXW. How are things after 3PW?
Kris Krude: Kind of quiet at first but things are looking good again. Things in WXW are pretty hot right now. I'm not sure where they are going, but its looking pretty hot. I'm starting back with PWU after a 1 year absence on Friday May 19th in Reading. I'm definitely looking forward to that. I've got a nice program with Teddy Fine going on over at Blackball'd too so I've kept relatively busy.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: You were managed in ACPW by Chrissy Rivera. Do you want to shed any light on many people in the wrestling business not respecting her and calling her untrained? Since you were close to her at one time what formal training does she have?
Kris Krude: Wow, I guess I should have seen this question coming. I'm going to do my best to answer this as professionally as possible without mixing in any personal feelings.
To my knowledge she has no formal training and it definitely showed in our ACPW work. I believe she started out at the AWA school with Danny Demanto and she said she left there due to personal differences with him.
The first time that I worked with her I told her and CJ that I would never do it again. We had gone from a show with several hundred people the night before in Pittsburgh to working ACPW in front of something like 50. Anyone in the business will tell you that that is difficult to adjust to but you do it. Well she didn't even want to be bothered with getting her spots and her effort was very half-assed. The next time we did ACPW she did a lot better than the first time but still looked very awkward out there. As a personal favor to CJ, I kept working with her to help her. CJ and I were always giving her advice and trying to help but without actually getting in the gym and practicing what we were saying, it wasn't helping. I haven't seen her work since November of last year but I hear she is still getting bookings so she must be doing someone right.
I know its very hard for women to be respected in this business and be taken seriously as talents and not just wrestlers girlfriends or rats. Ladies like Mercedes & Cindy Rogers bust their asses learning their craft and are breaking barriers. Then you have Chrissy who is, maybe I should say was since I honestly don't know what she does now, the polar opposite. She was my friend's girlfriend and worked with me because of that. End of story.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: How has WXW treated you? You have gone for the Cruiserweight Title twice but haven't been able to win the strap from Drew Blood or the current champion Mercedes Martinez. What are you feelings on those matches?
Kris Krude: WXW has been really good to me. I love working for Pops. He's always there offering advice and trying to help. Drew Blood is another one of my favorite guys out there right now. He was never able to beat me in a Cruiserweight Title match. I think I'm the only male to be able to say that in WXW. Lol. Our matches were really good though. My first match with Mercedes was really short and I look forward to a rematch. Overall I think that was a good one too.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Are there any promotions on the east coast that you would really want to wrestle for in the near future?
Kris Krude: I think I'd be a great asset to ROH's Pure Division, lol. I'd like to get something going with JAPW. I think I have something to offer there. ECWA is still a goal of mine. I'm up for working anywhere.
Word Assocation
Blue Meanie - Truly entertaining and an awesome person. Has helped me out a lot in pro wrestling.
Greg Spitz - My identical twin brother. Evil.
Teddy Fine - Fiesta. Awesome.
CJ O Doyle - A good friend of mine. Too nice. He's starting to realize that which is great. Regardless of who he is dating, he is someone that I will remain good friends with.
Noel Harlow - Ruins my day with every breath she takes. Really.
Chrissy Rivera - RAT. RAT RAT RAT RAT RAT. God, that feels so much better after trying to be politically correct earlier. It was almost like in Austin Powers where they were trying not to say mole and when they finally got to they were relieved.
Alicia - Wears my official Kris Krude Dot Com t-shirt. A fellow Applebees lover which puts her over huge in my book. Another girl who is polar opposite of Rivera.
Mercedes Martinez - Hits really hard, lol. One of my favorite people to watch.
Danny Demanto - Wants an official Kris Krude t-shirt. Knows his spot on a card and embraces it.
Hardcore Wrestling - Has its place.
Ron Starr - Very influential in my early days.
Keenan Quinn - Highly underrated. Who I call when I don't know who someone is, lol.
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey:Do you have any closing statements for your fans out there or anything to plug... website, merchandise, upcoming appearances etc?
Kris Krude: I always plug my official website, http://www.kriskrude.com/ which never gets updated. I am one of those millions of wrestlers on myspace which can be found at www.myspace.com/krude I'm returning to PWU on friday May 19th in Reading, Pa. May 20th I'll be at WXW at 6pm and then at the Blackball'd show at 7:30. Please buy my merchandise because college is expensive. Thank you to everyone who has supported me!
Sean "The MiC" McCaffrey: Thanks again for this interview and good luck with your career.
