Last night, WSU held its third anniversary event, starting with a 2 hour meet and greet, with all of the WSU regulars. This was a fun addition to the show, as it gave fans more time to interact with the wrestlers. Next up was the WSU Hall of Fame induction ceremony, in which Molly Holly, Jazz, and Dawn Marie, were inducted. In between this and the start of the show itself, a preview video of the higher-profile matches was played on the tron, which was a nice touch, especially since there were a lot of new fans in attendance, as this helped to keep them up to date with the storylines. And there really were a lot of new fans, as I would say that the attendance was about double what WSU drew at the ACE Arena last October. I know that WSU claims to be a "DVD business", but this show was proof that women's wrestling can draw a solid live crowd. With that being said, on to the matches.
Match 1: Angelina Love defeated Sassy Stephie- It was great to see Angelina Love wrestle a longer, back and forth match, compared to seeing her get jumped by The Beautiful People every week on Impact. After the match, she even said something to the effect of, "This beats a 3 minute TV match."
Match 2: The Boston Shore defeated Tina San Antonio and Marti Belle- These newcomers to WSU impressed me, and I would like to see all of them back on future WSU shows.
Match 3: Alere Little Feather squashed Rick Cataldo- After the match, Cindy Rogers came out, turned heel, and attacked Alere, leading to...
Match 4: Cindy Rogers defeated Alere Little Feather by submission
Match 5: Jana defeated Latasha in a submission match- Another solid match, with Jana getting a clean win.
Match 6: Angel Orsini defeated Amy Lee and Sumie Sakai in a 3 way streetfight- These three brawled all over the building, in an entertaining match.
Intermission: Many of the wrestlers came back out to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans.
Match 7: Brittney Savage defeated Alicia to win the WSU Spirit Championship- Another good match, but now Brittey should be given a long reign as champion, to up the prestige of the belt.
Match 8: April Hunter defeated Traci Brooks- This was a 5 star match for all the wrong reasons... During the match, April Hunter pulled down Traci's pants, and her entire ass was hanging out for the rest of the match. After the match, The Boston Shore came out, and cut a promo against April Hunter, which led to Traci coming back out, and the reformation of T&A.
Match 9: Amber O'Neal defeated Jazz after 2 ref bumps: Jazz proved to be a class act, having no problem putting over an upcoming talent. This match was a lot of fun.
Main Event: Mercedes Martinez defeated Rain to retain the WSU World Women's Championship- Easily the women's match of the year so far, as these 2 went at it for 35 minutes.
Overall, a great show from top to bottom. Hopefully, the new fans keep coming back, and I'm sure they will aftter a show like this.
