Shark Boy

What’s up DOI-fans, and welcome to another McInterview. Today’s guest is one of the more well known indy wrestlers, and one of the top wrestlers today. He is Shark Boy, from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. Shark Boy talks about his career, other wrestlers and what he plans on doing in the future.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did you get into pro wrestling? What made you want to get into wrestling?

Shark boy: I got hooked on wrestling when I saw Roddy Piper hit Jimmy Snuka with the coconut somewhere around the age of 12. At the age of 20, I met Les Thatcher at an indy show near Cincinnati just before he opened his wrestling school. The rest is history.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did it feel to have your beginning of your career covered on MTV?

Shark boy: It was really cool. I still hear "Hey, I saw you on MTV" all the time.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who were your favorite and least favorite wrestlers growing up?

Shark boy: My favorite was "Macho Man" Randy Savage and my least favorite was whoever stepped into the ring against him.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Would The Hurricane be Shark Boy's dream tag team partner? If not, who would Shark Boy want to team up with?

Shark boy: Yes, Hurricane is a modern day dream partner for me. My all-time dream partner would have been Andre the Giant.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What did it feel like to win the Pillman 1999 Cruiserweight Championship?

Shark boy: It was really amazing. After I scored the final pinfall, a bunch of WWF guys led by Mick Foley, Al Snow, and D'lo Brown ran to the ring for a surprise celebration. There's a great photo of the moment on my website, www.SharkBoy.net.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who are your favorite opponents to work with? Least favorite?

Shark boy: I've enjoyed working with lots of people, but I think my matches with Jamie Knoble are some of the best I've ever had. I would also list Chris Kanyon as a favorite. If I tell the world who my least favorite opponent is, he might try to kill me next time we're in the ring!

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Do you feel any pressure to perform at peak condition, as some people have dubbed you the most famous wrestler on the indies?

Shark boy: Yeah, there's a lot of pressure that goes along with that. Some days I'm more ready to step into the ring than others, but no matter how I feel before the match, once I get out there I'm out there to steal the show.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You have worked for WCW briefly, and now work for NWA-TNA. Are there any similarities? Do you think TNA has any chance of seriously competing with the WWE in the future?

Shark boy: The biggest similarity between WCW and TNA is some of the talent that I worked with in both companies. Guys like Elix Skipper, Sonny Siaki, and Alan Funk all went to the WCW Power Plant the same time that I did. I think TNA has a solid enough roster to seriously compete with any federation in the not-too-distant future.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What's it like to win a title? Do you feel any burden of having to be the champion, as the promoter obviously thinks you're the right man to represent his/her company?

Shark boy: I wouldn't call it a burden. Having a promoter place enough faith in you to book you as the champion is a sincere honor. There may be a certain amount of pressure that goes along with it, but that's what this business is all about.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your short term and long term career goals?

Shark boy: Short term I'd just like to make a bigger "splash" (pun intended) in the NWA-TNA. Long term I'd like to make it to the very top of the business someday and have my own action figure or video game.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you think is the best match you ever had? Shark boy: My WWE debut in Pittsburgh against Chris Kanyon. The match was really exciting and the fans chanted "We want Shark Boy" all night long. It was an amazing experience.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Do you have any prematch superstitions?

Shark boy: Just the one where I'm not going to get paid at the end of the night.

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you have to say to anyone reading this?

Shark boy: Please visit www.SharkBoy.net and thanks for following the fin!

Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Thank you for doing this interview.
