Ricky Vega
What’s up boys and girls and welcome to another McInterview. Today’s guest is none other than one of the newest 3PW superstars and rising indy star, Ricky Vega. Ricky has also worked WXW, as well as others. Ricky was nice enough to answer all the questions in depth, and I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did you get into pro wrestling?
Ricky Vega: I met Johnny Rodz July 16th 2001 through Uptown Badboy Bobby Levy and Vinny ''The Goose'' Grasso. So actually the 16th of this month is the two-year anniversary of me giving up m declaration of independence to the wrestling bus.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who were your favorite, and least favorite wrestlers growing up?
Ricky Vega: For me it began with Hulk Hogan. He was bigger than life. He was what I wanted to be at the time. But I'll have to say that Ricky ''The Dragon'' Steamboat, Bret Hart, Ric Flair and Barry Windham are my fav's. As far as my least, I respect any man that puts on tights, laces their boots, and steps into the squared circle and lays it all on the line for the delight of the crowd.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You worked with Johnny Rodz, what was that like?
Ricky Vega: Johnny Rodz is the master. That's how I see him. Everything I know about the wrestling business, I owe it to two people. Rob Levintine and the unpredictable Johnny Rodz. As far as working with him goes, it's a pleasure and an honor.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You have worked for a variety of promotions, namely WXW and 3PW. How is it working in WXW and 3PW, and what other promotions do you like working for?
Ricky Vega: Working for WXW was a learning experience for me. Since I haven't been working on Independents long, getting the chance to, with Afa, was what allowed me to gain tons of much needed experience, experience that I can know bring with me to 3PW. 3PW was great, and I look forward to August 16th. The crowd is hot, the building is hot, and the product itself has proven to be hot. I alos work with the World of Unpredictable Wrestling (WUW) and Johnny Rodz where I also learn a ton and gained much needed experience.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What indy wrestlers are you a fan of today?
Ricky Vega: As far as wrestling, A.J. Style's gimmick, Matt Striker, and heel, Tim Arson, just to name a few.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What has been your best match in your career?
Ricky Vega: It hasn't happened. I believe you're only as good as your last match.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What have been some of your fondest memories in the wrestling business?
Ricky Vega: Being on the same card with name guys such as Honky Tonk Man, Tony Atlas, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, King Kong Bundy, Brutus Beefcake, Hercules, and the Legion of Doom. And of course, Johnny Rodz.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Do you have any pre-match stipulations?
Ricky Vega: No not really, although I often wear a sweater or thermal to help me warm up. But other than that, no.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: If you had to pick any woman in wrestling to be your manager, who would it be?
Ricky Vega: Gorgeous George.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How hard is it maintaining a normal life, while being a pro wrestler?
Ricky Vega: It's hard at first, but it becomes part of your life. I truly believe you have to love it, to succeed in it.
