Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did you get into the wrestling business? You've mentioned working with ECW and NWA (Before it became a joke in NJ with petty fighting), what did you do there?
Ricky O: I started out by meeting Dennis Cralluzzo and doing anything from ring crew to ring announceing. I wrestled a few shows for NWA before my injury . After that i moved into the office with Dennis. ECW was strickly behind the scenes booking travel for MR Gorden and a little for Paul.
The MiC: Did you always want to be a promoter, or did you want to be a wrestler first? What made you want to become a promoter?
Ricky O: I wanted to be a serious worker so bad. But i broke my leg in 7 places in a accident at work and i have 50 screws and 5 plates holding it together. I known it is all over for me as a worker but sometimes i still get in there.
The MiC: How did JCW begin, and since it's inception, what do you think has been the highlight of JCW? The low point? And also, what do you think has been the best show you've ever been involved with?
Ricky O: Start from the bottem up here Best show ever was probley the 3rd JCW Jcup in the rexplex in elizabeth NJ. That show top to bottem was awesome . We had workers from all over the United States guys that broke out right after that show to become stars. CM Punk ,Colt Cabanna ,American Dragon , The Briscoes and REckless Youth returning from injury to win the whole thing was simpley awesome. We shatterd all kinds of sales records over at highspots.com with that one. Worest show i ever ran probley was in Rahway Nj the show got canned the day of the show and a long mess occured, i am sure everyone has heard and bashed me for that one. We started JCW because i fad a falling out with the NWA and i was bored i had gotten married and i was dying to get back in. We had a few guys that were just starting out in the great wrestling biz and i was like hell i will start up and get these kids so press.
The MiC: You are a member of the UWS (United Wrestling Syndicate), along with Carmine Sabia of SSCW and Joe Panzarino from NWS and other promotions around the country. (MA, TX) This was announced in early February, yet there has been no progress made, nor any more announcements. Will the UWS ever take off and have a show or is it a good idea that will slowly take time to execute?
Ricky O: It will take off but slowly i have JCW and Joe has NWS and CArmine is running regular now and with all of looking all the time to improve time is short right now.
The MiC: What do you feel about the current state of indy wrestling?
Ricky O: Awesome and getting better with each passing week. Guys just need to slow down and wait and not get a huge ego to fast.
The MiC: If you could be a booker of the WWE, what would you do to turn it around?
Ricky O: Take it back to the roots. Get ECW back on its feet because of the value of the name. Put Paulie , Taz and DReamer in there as the front office and use WWE lower card guys or develpmental guys to get off the ground. Get them back on the road make them drive to shows make the workers hungry that there is a golden carriot in front of the wagon. Then do shows in high schools and smaller building like the old days so kids meet these guys before they get huge and can follow them up the ladder of success. I feel the problem the WWe faces is no compatition to drive them and the fact Stars are to huge not on a mortal level anymore kids can't meet the rock or hogan unless they dropp 100 bucks for a auto not good when you looking to build a fan base.
The MiC: What are your feelings on the state of NJ wrestling, with so many promotions using the same talent? How does it affect JCW?
Ricky O: Real promotions like JCW JAP NWS SSCW run solid shows and book alot of the same guys but all of us have our home grown guys. JCW is proud that Dave Greco and Shawn Sheridan have taken that next step. People tend to forget that guys like Lowki, the Hitsquad, xavier the moondogs the Sat and a ton of others were working their first years in JCW.
The MiC: This is the story alot of people are interested in. Jac Sabboth commented on a rift between you in a recent interview. What is your side of the story, in concerns to your relationship with Jac Sabboth?
Ricky O: I am so fucking Done with this topic let him talk about it he seems to like hearing himself.
The MiC: JCW has been running some great shows recently, yet the masses haven't came in, like they used to when JCW was drawing 1000+. How do you go about raising your attendance? Do you think attendance is low (as it is in alot of other promotions) due to the economy and wrestling being in a general down period?
Ricky O: Wrestling in general is down big time . I never saw the WWE giving tickets away in this area but now they are giving free bees to fill PPV shows. Over kill right now. God the !@ shows a weekend hurt also.
The MiC: What's the story with this years J-Cup and what can the fans expect?
Ricky O: If they show up June 8 they will get first crack at pre sale on tickets as the date will be announced at the show.
