Mia Angel
Mia Angel before a WXW show
What up DOI-fans and welcome to yet another McInterview. Today I interviewed WXW Referee and women’s wrestler in training, Mia Angel. Mia Angel is an exclusive WXW talent and has recently been sidelined due to a back injury. Find out all about Mia Angel and WXW in this interview. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: How did you get into pro wrestling, and why did you want to get into it?
Mia Angel: I have been a fan since I was 2 years old, (1984) and was hooked on it since. As I grew up me and my brother would wrestle around and sometimes shoot fought. LOL As I became 14 my life was so messed up with alot of family problems and could not take it anymore as I almost tried to take my own life, later on that week I was watching a WWF match in fact a Shawn Michaels match and realized I wanted to get into this business but I needed to change my lifestyle or I might not make it, So I started to work out and take care of my body and I started doing well in school and I also changed my outlook on life and friends and attitude for the better as I was changing I knew I wanted to be in this business. As my senior year of High School came to a close I began searching for local wrestling schools also that year WXW had came to my High School, Phillipsburg High School in 2001 and I saw the action I was hooked and later did some research on WXW as I contact a fellow worker Supreme Lee Great and he gave me alot more info on The Wild Samoan Training Center which was located in Allentown, Pa and Hazleton, PA (note that the Allentown Training Center has closed down so we run out of Hazleton now) as I went to another WXW show in February of 2002 I had talked to Pops (Afa The Wild Samoan) and mom (His wife Lynn)and told them I wanted to become a wrestler as their eyes lit up, So in the next coming month I had contacted Afa for a tryout and on June 3rd of 2002 I became on of the WXW family.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who were your favorite male wrestlers growing up?
Mia Angel: Such stars as Hulk Hogan (My brother was a big mark) Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Roddy Piper, Andre The Giant
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who were your favorite female wrestlers growing up?
Mia Angel: Malia Hoaska, Alundra Blaze (Medusa), Moolah, Miss Elizabeth (RIP)
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You currently ref for WXW. What is it like being in the WXW locker room and being in the WXW family?
Mia Angel: Yes I currently work as a Referee but I am also in training as a female worker but was asked by Afa to referee and I was so honored. The WXW family is very wonderful. They have made me feel welcome which is a good thing to those who first get in the business. I have mad alot of great friends that I cherish everyday that I have. WXW is truly the biggest, the best and the better than the rest. We have TV in parts of NJ, CT, Pa, over in Samoa. We have such talent like stars like Skinhead Ivan, Boogalou, Manna, Molsonn, Guapo, Homicide, Supreme Lee Great, Tommy Suede, The list goes on. I am very proud to be apart of this wrestling family.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Recently, your personal friend and WXW ref, among other jobs for the company, Johnny "Bellswinger" Moyer tragically died in a car accident. How will you remember Bellswinger, and do you have any funny Bellswinger stories for the people who might not have known him?
Mia Angel: Yes tragically he was killed as he was walking home, This devastated me so much, I didn't know him as long as some of the workers did in WXW but me and him grew close, He would often joke about me being his girl and he would put his arm around me and make me giggle. He always put a smile on my face and everyone else that came along in WXW. When you were having a bad day or what he made sure that he would put a smile on your face by the end of the day. He had a very great passion for this business and started out by doing ring crew and anything else that he could and landed himself to be a referee, one of the best in WXW as well. To some people who thought he was strange, yes he was but he was a great strange the kind of strange that was very unique and one of a kind. WE WILL MISS HIM SO MUCH!!
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: You recently sustained an injury. What happened, and when will you be back?
Mia Angel: Yes I have 2 disks in my back that are out of place, That’s all I know of now as I am going to the Doc's to get x-rays and stuff, I don't know when I will be back to training and Refereeing but am itching to get back.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Who has been influential on your career?
Mia Angel: Afa The Wild Samoan and his family was a big influential on my career, as him and his family always believed in me when no one else did.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: Do you have any prematch superstitions?
Mia Angel: I usually make a prayer for the safety of myself as well as other workers in the ring.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: In the past, there have been rumors about your dealings with Danny Demanto and Kevin Matthews. Would you like to clear the air here, and give everyone your side of what happened?
Mia Angel: Well what was going on with Danny and Kevin was just that, IN THE PAST. I will not go on and bash them because that is not my style. Rumors to me are childish baby games and have no room for them. I am probably going to get heat with this anyway with Danny and Kevin, but I am not going to waist my time. My friends in this business know about me as for others who want to believe it, Fine that is your choice.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you expect to get out of the wrestling business?
Mia Angel: Well I would love to get in the WWE one day but I also realize that may never happen and that’s ok because as long as I wrestle or Referee anywhere, specially WXW, I will be greatly satisfied.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What has been your favorite moment in wrestling?
Mia Angel: Was when I got accepted to WXW and also when I was asked to referee in WXW. I was so honored.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What are your short term and long-term goals?
Mia Angel: Short term goal is to get this injury fixed and back to training and refereeing, Long term is to finish school and get my Associates Degree in Medical Assistant, and keep on training to wrestle and referee in WXW.
Sean “The MiC” McCaffrey: What do you want to say to anyone reading this?
Mia Angel: If you are really serious about this business please get trained by a trainer, Please don't do backyard crap. We are trained to take and give these moves you see. There are reasons why you need training, It is not just imitating what you think how it is done from TV. If you want to get in finish your education, find a wrestling school, get trained, Pay your dues, give 150 percent and work your butt off.
